I used an Ego push mower all last year and really liked it. You don't want thick wet grass, that's for sure, but if you stay up on the mowing it works really well and was happy with battery life. At one point I was push mowing our side lot and my neighbors yard so I walked 5 miles each mow and that would take one 10Ah and one 7.5Ah battery to do. I don't have any 6Ah batteries but would imagine it would do just fine with a small yard as I can mow my front and rear smaller yards with a 5Ah while not using the self propelled. If you push it yourself and don't use self propelled you will get much better battery life and it's not bad to push.

If you have anything bigger than 1/4 of an acre, and considering how expensive EGO batteries are, would the deal for the 800 series with 2 batteries not be a better deal? Just one battery will cost the difference, and you get a slightly better(?) mower? If you already got EGO batteries, then this might be decent. But beware of committing to EGO because the batteries are super expensive. Had I been starting over, I would've strongly considered ryobi instead when they go on sale.

Thanks for that! I've been looking at these for a bit as I need to replace a battery-powered one I got many years ago when they were still mostly unheard-of and self-propelled didn't even exist, lol

The knock off brand ego batteries are about a third the price on Amazon. No experience with them but they have good reviews so I might try one next time I have an ego battery die. Even if they last half as long as genuine ego batteries, you're still coming out on top. If they last nearly as long then it's a no brainer

I have had three of the knock offs. One died almost instantly. The others are hanging on, but aren't nearly as powerful as they claim, and during most turbo events they shut off. So they are not nearly close, but will work mostly as long as you don't need full power

Ryobi is good for drills and smaller tools for people just looking to hang pictures in their home. Their lawn tools don't really come close to ego. And I would get milwaukee or dewalt over Ryobi these days.

Ego is awesome. Yes, the batteries are expensive. But they are quality, and last a long time. I am just replacing my first battery thats having problems after owning it for ~8 years. That's a decent enough service life for me to be happy.

Also, ego just recently released their commercial powerhead multi tool in the usa. The batteries work with it too, as well as the multi head tools. The new multi head is brushless wihlth variable speed and is static output power instead of only peak rated like the current one. Ego continues to push the product line forward with development. And considering the 5 acres and a commercial property Ive used them to maintain with, I am very pleased with their performance YoY.

totally agree, i use ryobi hand tools, but no comparison to ego for lawn equipment, not even close

I picked this up with a 5ah and 2.5ah battery last week. Was able to cut my 1/3 acre, non-flat, complicated yard without much issue. I did end up using both batteries, but the 2.5 was only in use for about 5-6 minutes. With more familiarity, I think this thing will cut my yard on just the 5ah and it does a great job.
