Maybe I'm cheap (that's why I'm using slickdeals!), but I think ASUS needs to start including 2.5GB LAN ports on their routers. It's time to move on from gigabit LAN.
Ok, so I have a HUGE Asus router with 8 antennas... and honestly, this $99 model is probably all most households need to get everything out of their internet service provider, plus a few nice extras.
2.5GB LAN ports don't help your Ping or really help a 4k Tv stream video any better, it's a port for power users who want to share files on their local network (not internet) as fast as possible... for most people, a NAS attached to 1GB Ethernet or USB ports would be plenty. This DOES have a 2.5GB WAN port to connect to your ISP's gateway or modem.
Got a 4K Smart TV, media streaming box, PlayStation Portal or tablet? You're going to be able to stream or remote-play just fine. QoS services can be set to easily prioritize gaming traffic (I do recommend setting 2.4 GHz and 5GHz channels as separate WiFi networks). Range is also going to be good, especially 2.4GHz, and it should be able to handle a fair number of smart home, IoT, and computer devices just fine. Asus' app does let you turn on anti-virus and free VPN services, pretty good extra security measures for devices that can't install anti malware software themselves. I do wish there was a couple USB ports for network storage or tethering your phone to use as an emergency backup Internet gateway, but most people don't need that/wont use those features.
Seems good to me for $99. I like my huge "Sith tower" of WiFi router goodness, but honestly I feel like I overbought/overpaid XD

I agree with your analysis. Yes, 1GB LAN should be enough. I am just greedy. I remember my Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router had 4x1GB LAN, and that sucker came out in about 2013. Why settle for 1GB LAN when 2.5GB LAN should be standard now, ~13 years later?
Which "sith tower" router did you get? I'm going to guess ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000! How close did I get? π

You've got the right idea, but I bought it a little while ago ^_^'`So, give yourself credit, but it was the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 model.
