I have one of these I use on trips. Folds down small enough that I can throw it in my carry on and use it in the rental cars.

Just out of curiosity, do you use anything to cover the suction cup so that the "nano-glue" doesn't get on everything in your carryon?

From the reviews and videos, seems like this suctions on patterned dashboards. Been wanting one that doesn't need a flat base, so giving this a shot.

I haven't got this (yet), but I've done similar by attaching mounts to the plastic lids from Pringles cans, cake icing, and the like.

I actually have the exact same use case (pop it on to my rental cars) and I kept the original circular piece of plastic that was on it when I originally opened the box. Has lasted for four business trips now, and still going strong. Sorry if I sound like a shill, but this is actually the best windshield mount I've found, and I've tried three or four over the years, I'm in a different rental car just about every week. Just wish I would have waited for this sale, I bought mine at full price.
