Vendors trying to influence our feedback!

16 10 May 11, 2026 at 04:37 AM
has anyone gotten contacted by the vendor of something they purchased on slick deals asking them to provide honest feedback in exchange for new products on slick deals?
I'm worried that the comments and votes here may become as corrupted as Amazon

We are way past that. SD is directly taking money from sellers to boost their appearance with promoted scams. They are also removing comments whenever someone points out votes are manipulated and deals are misleadt. There are members here that non-stop post fake delaz like refurbished laptops that are completely used.

I mean the button that says "mod alert" on the private message page. It looks like the picture attached below.

That's ok. I received your report and I'm informing our team to monitor the brand for abuse. We appreciate you letting us know.

Edit: Additionally, you can always forward emails to [email protected] as well to inform us of merchants contacting you outside of the forum. Thanks!

SD is open as to our relationship with merchants and what that looks like for you all.

This is definitely a work in progress and I'll add to it when I see common questions/complaints on SD that need answered. I don't have them all yet and probably never truly will but I'm trying my best Smilie

I've heard your complaints regarding used vs refurb verbiage in threads. And that does give me something to think about and I will bring it up this week with others and see what can be done to help that.

Frankly, it's impossible to avoid that risk when we have a site like SD that's open to community feedback and posts. It seems to me that SD does a great job overall at keeping things fair and focused on the best deals. It does make sense, however: manufacturers and other vendors want to get their products in front of shoppers, so I can see why they approach SD users. I post lots of deals, and I get one or two PMs a month from vendors wanting to "collaborate" with me to post their products. I just report the PMs and move along. Maybe others accept. But it's definitely against the SD terms and conditions already. Even if someone did work with a vendor, if the price wasn't good, it wouldn't get engagement on SD anyway, since our community is only interested in buying things that are on sale. Otherwise, IMO, it seems pretty easy to just ignore "Great deal!" comments by users with 10 reputation and 1 post, so I just personally don't see an issue here. It's a good question though!
