I have the non-camera cheaper version. It warns me of cars coming up from behind. The extra safety is well worth the money.

This is a fantastic device for safety, but the battery is not user replaceable. Mine lasted about 2 years. I tried to replace it with a similarly sized battery from AX, but device never worked well after. I recommend getting the slightly more expensive e version that plugs into external power and just use it with a power bank if you don't use an ebike. Way longer battery life for slightly more weight and you don't end up with a $300 paper weight in 2 years. fark Garmin for trying to justify this greedy, planet killing BS by saying it's for water proofing.

How does this make you safer? I have been struggling with this since I bought mine years ago.

If nothing else, I move slightly closer to the curb. It also starts flashing more aggressively when it detects an approaching car. Plus, you can look behind your shoulder and face your death so you end up in Valhalla and not some shitty heaven with harps.

Instead, we're stuck here...with you.
(just a joke btw)

I have limited mobility in being able to turn my head and see behind me without swerving my steering. These radars end up being real useful to know if there is something fast approaching but far when I need to move left for a left turn. For closer vehicles, you can mostly hear them without this, even electric cars.

Keep in mind this uses the older original radar system found in the non-camera RTL-515 that sells for half the price. A few months ago Garmin also released the updated radar (non-camera) Varia 820 model that has vastly improved battery life and expanded field of view that has been favorably reviewed as the most superior bike radar system out there. With that said, there are also clone radar systems by other makes that are about 90% as good as the original RTL-515 and can be found well under $100 any day of the year.
