I picked one of these up on May 10th for just a few dollars less ($1,076.99) and think it's an excellent and very complete package. So often with laptops you find that things are mostly good but if only the manufacturer didn't skimp out on that one thing (ex, display, audio, etc.) But that is not the case here.

It's difficult to find this combination of features anywhere near this price. Very few laptops pair a high-resolution OLED touchscreen with discrete graphics, for example, but here you've got both along with a great processor, sufficient ram, slot for an additional SSD, excellent keyboard, trackpad, num pad, great I/O and some of the best audio I've heard on a Windows machine.

This is one of those laptops that can truly do a bit of everything. I'd highly recommend it.

it won't be that different. if you need a laptop, go for this one. I don't see anything close to me so it's a bummer.

I bought the 5060 version of this back in the fall for $1300 and have been loving it. The screen is excellent for use in daylight but also has great color accuracy.
The dedicated graphics, 32 gigs of RAM, and ultra9 processor handle large SolidWorks models without an issue (ignore the certified driver warnings). I've even used this for large 3D scans (the entire front end and suspension of a car for instance) and it's worked surprisingly well.
When I'm not doing CAD or 3D scanning I put it in power save mode and the battery will last around 8 hours depending on how bright you have the screen.
Oddly enough, one of my favorite features is that it will charge from a single 90 watt or higher usb-c charger. For powerusers who travel, it's a welcome relief compared to the dedicated power bricks or double USB C's that most workstation laptops require.
If you want a very versatile powerhouse laptop that isn't a giant brick then this is the one for you and great bang for the buck. My only complaint is that at 16 in it's just a bit too large for most travel backpacks, but that is literally the only negative I can come up with.

Do you think this would be good for a civil engineering student doing CAD? Either the 5050 or 5060 version?

Yes. In fact I had bought the 5050 version for my son starting college as Mechanical Engineer next year and he has been using it for FIRST robotics and SolidWorks in high school this year.

For my computer people, how does this compare to Costco HP EliteBook X G1i 14" AI Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 7 258V - Copilot+ PC - WUXGA LED Touchscreen - 32GB Memory - 1TB SSD - Windows 11 Home?

I picked it up for $1k and I haven't even set it up yet. Not sure which way to go...mainly for work and will be sticking it in a backpack for some travel

Honestly, you just gotta decide between 14" or 16".

This is very limited to location and shipping isn't available in most cases. The components for this laptop would cost over $1,200 and that's not including the time and effort to put together. It's definitely a slick deal IF you can get one. These brand new go for $1,600-$1,900 ballpark.

Great, I managed to snag the 5060 version in excellent condition only 20 miles from me. Thanks so much for the input as I almost bought my daughter a Thinkpad with an RTX 2000 ada for like 3K lol.

The thing about Best Buy open-box deals is that they are geographically restricted. A particular unit in a specific condition must be sitting in a store or warehouse within x amount of you or you won't see it available for shipping.
