After the initial purchase, no further service or payment is needed. The phone will unlock after 365 days from the date it was activated.

Can you just cancel service after the first month without being charged the balance for the phone? What about for the tablet?

It's prepaid, don't opt for autopay and that's all. There is nothing to cancel
