I'm not sure how useful this is. That huge gap in the side where the filament tubes enter would leak so much hot air making it not super useful for abs/asa

I've wanted this for a whole but even at $40 it feels hard to justify... Especially since it's almost 25% of the entire printer price these days 🤣. But I'd still mostly be printing pla/petg so the enclosure would almost completely just be dust mitigation.

Anyone buy/install this and get real benefit? It's it mostly just about maybe being able to print ASA/ABS? Even though ventilation would be even more if a worry than traditional enclosed printers, I'd think, as the gaps would let plenty of gasses out even if you connected an exhaust tube.

I've already got a couple other enclosed printers for any hotter filament needs anyway.

Ugh, decisions, decisions. This or another $50-60 bulk 10k filament buy? 🤣

With all the deals for the printer pooping up in the last month or so, it's about time I should get this as well. Glad I waited. Still have to print your own trim pieces though, but that's why you get the printer first.

Funny, the 5M's kit has fewer panels but includes a cable chain, a new cover for the print head, and I think a few other harder to source parts. This seems like a cheaper kit for FF yet they are asking more for it.

As for usefulness, it will help with materials like ABS since it will control air flow. However, it's a lot of volume given there isn't an aux heater. However, it might also reduce print noise a bit and should be very good at keeping dust off the print bed. That was one of the primary reasons why I wanted the enclosure for my 5M.

I don't plan to print any special material right now and I got this. I printed the parts in PETG (my first time) using AD5X itself, and everything came out perfect. Everything fit, all parts were there, no issues. The only thing I would do different is to go for a different color schema (I went all white, which is fine, but I could have tried something flashier).
The soundproofing by itself already justifies this purchase. It was not terrible before it but now is just really quiet. Also, it keeps dust out of it. I put a cheap humidity/temperature sensor inside of it and I can also see that the temperature is higher inside, and the humidity is lower.

I have this on my printer and have had success with ASA. I was surprised the first time I popped the door open with how much heat was actually being retained within the enclosure. I should try temping it sometime, but it was pretty noticeably above the ambient temp.

This seems to be nice for keeping the noise down. I am using cardboard right now for the noise and it helps. My concern about this printer is the filaments are exposed to the environment where humidity can affect the quality of the filaments. I am thinking about an enclosure that put the filament spools in a controlled area during and off print.

The design provided by FF to print the pieces is a little short at the top such that the filament tubes hit the plexiglass cover and knock it off. At the moment I'm just placing a spare filament roll on top to keep enough weight for the lid to stay on.

FWIW, I can't imagine that hole letting out enough heat to really matter (heat loss via single pane plastic panels is likely to be 10x that), especially that far from the heated bet. But that 'bulkhead passthrough' avpvr suggested might ease your concern. I personally would just design some kind of holder for soft plastic then make slits where the filament passed through vs relying on those fittings which are likely to add a bunch of fiction. Would be interesting if someone did a before and after temp test.

P.S. For anyone with a 5M like me, that kit is also on sale for $31.99 after coupon

I installed the enclosure and I would say the biggest benefit is sound. It makes the printer quite a bit quieter. Definitely glad I installed it.

Edit: I might not have used this exact enclosure, I got the one I used off of ebay I think.
