This is a budget Galaxy A37 5G deal that stands out for its midrange specs, long software support, and strong value as a backup or travel phone. The 6.7 inch AMOLED display, 5,000 mAh battery, IP68 rating, and six years of updates make it appealing, and it also gets praise for emulation and decent camera performance. The main drawbacks are the 6GB RAM, no microSD slot, and reports of noticeable One UI lag. Metro's 365 day unlock lock and frequent port in and checkout problems are the biggest caveats.

  • Travelers who want a backup phone for a year, because it can sit on Wi‑Fi, auto-unlock after 365 days, and gets six years of software updates.

  • People who want a cheap emulation handheld, because it runs older consoles well and can even handle some Switch titles.

  • Shoppers who need a midrange phone with decent cameras, because its photos are described as close to an S25 in good light and better than Moto cameras.

  • Users who want a straightforward backup daily driver, because it is described as usable with some lag and still fast enough for everyday tasks.

  • People who need a snappy phone for heavy multitasking, because the interface lag is noticeably worse than on comparable Motorola models.

  • Buyers who want to port in a Google Voice or other virtual number, because Metro can reject those transfers or leave them stuck in limbo.

  • Shoppers who need a phone that can be used on another carrier right away, because it stays locked for 365 days after activation.

  • International travelers who need roaming outside North America, because Metro appears to lack international roaming beyond Mexico and Canada.

Its not going to work if it wasnt working to begin with. Flashing firmware is not going to fix it. Flashing only helps to stop bloatware.

My theory by inserting T-mobile sim first so the phone can register on tmobile network. So far it works on my A37 and A11+ tablet.
Thanks for the info. I have ordered a second A37. Per your note, once I receive the phone, I should put an active t-mobile SIM in this A37 and boot it up, then it should work on t-mobile network? It seems working in your case without unlocking the A37 first.

you should definitely try my trick if you are planning to use it on T-mobile. you have nothing to lose anyway. you can always flash back to metro firmware after 1 year for unlock.

As long it's activated 99% chance it will be unlocked after 1 year.

2 customer reps I talked to yesterday said that the plan needs to stay active for the entire year to be able to unlock itself...can't just be active for 1 month...not sure if they knew what they were talking about

Sure, I'd say the same thing if I'm working for Metro. Just common sense.

Forget about phones from Tracfone and Metro unless you are interested in 1-year locked.

Thanks for letting us know. Don't forget to go to iPhone/Pixel deals from T-Mobile, Verizon, at&t and let them know about the 2 or 3 years contract too.

For 40 dollars this is quite possibly the cheapest and best emulation device you can get, at the very least it works fantastically as a poor man's steam deck, not to mention all the storage space for its own emulators and roms to run locally when out and about. Grandma is getting the hook-up with this phone compared to overpriced iphones.

did any one experience the same issue during port in ? I tried to port my straightalk number, went through all the pages, and after checking out, when I submit the order, it gives the same crappy message about your security is important to us, and call to place an order and the order doesn't go through.

The worst part is, after this, my straghtalk line become inactive and when I login online, it says there is no active plan attached to it.

It happened to me 3 times ! not sure why I even tried 3 times, but done with it now.
