The Moto G Stylus 5G 2024 stands out as a budget phone with a big screen, built in stylus, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage, plus expandable storage, a headphone jack, fingerprint reader, and fast charging. The camera, battery life, and near stock Android get strong praise, and the phone is described as responsive enough to last for years with a case and screen protector. The main drawbacks are limited update support, bloatware, occasional glitches, and no water or dust resistance. The $199.99 price is framed as fair for the storage, though not a rare low.
People wanting a roomy everyday Android phone, because the 256GB storage, 8GB RAM, big screen, and responsive performance handle notes, media, and normal tasks well.
People who want a midrange phone with useful extras, because it includes a fingerprint reader, headphone jack, wireless charging, and near-stock Android.
It's a solid price for a new unlocked 256GB/8GB model, but it has also been sitting around this price for a while on Motorola's site and elsewhere. The value is mainly the 256GB storage, 8GB RAM, and stylus features rather than a fresh price drop.
The 2024 model is expected to receive OS upgrades only up to Android 15, and security updates are believed to end sometime next year. That makes it a better buy if you want the hardware value now, not long-term update support.
Its strengths are the large screen, big battery, stylus, fingerprint reader, near-stock Android, headphone jack, expandable storage, fast charging, and wireless charging. The main drawbacks are the passive stylus without palm rejection, bloatware like Moto Glance, occasional stutters or glitches, and no water or dust resistance.
Yes, it supports expandable storage via SD card and includes a microphone jack for wired headsets. That makes the 256GB model easier to live with if you store lots of media or want a backup phone.
Yes, losing the stylus can make the screen overly sensitive and the touch input behave incorrectly until a replacement is inserted. A replacement stylus can fit the slot, but it may need to be secured so it does not fall out again.
I think the thing that gets overlooked is, a phone isn't a staple item, like buying paper towels. Many people come to slickdeals to search for a phone when they actually need one. So even though the $199 price has been in play for a time, it doesn't mean it's not a deal 'per se' because for this much bang for the buck on an unlocked phone, I know of no better price right now. (not counting free phones with a plan deals that your phone is locked to a carrier for 12 months)Sure, on Black Friday 3 months from now we prob will, but if you need a phone now to replace a busted phone, that is when you are shopping. And if this is the best deal out there, it's still a deal to the person in need.
It's an OK price for a solid phone. If someone lost or damaged their phone beyond repair and needs one today, this is fine. If someone has been looking for an upgrade and is wondering if this is a great price to pounce on I would say that it isn't. This phone has been available a lot for this price over the last year. There will probably be better phones for the same price or this phone for a lower price in the next few months so somebody isn't in a rush they should wait.
I bought the scarlet wave version of this phone 2 years ago for $250, and am still using it two years later (along with an iPhone for work). Here's my take.
The good: large screen, big battery, moto gestures, reliable fingerprint reader, clean (nearly stock) Android UI, fast charging, wireless charging, headphone jack, expandable storage, FM radio (removed in 2025 version), pretty responsive running non-intensive tasks
Okayish: passive stylus w/o palm rejection (don't use it often), mid-range cameras
The bad: pre-installed bloatware (including some you can't uninstall or permanently disable, such as Moto Glance), performance sometimes stutters (like when playing a movie while running Android Auto in the background), minor but annoying software glitches (inconsistent font sizing in some popular apps, for example), lack of water & dust resistance, and other odd issues (sometimes alerts just randomly stop working for no reason)
The OS & apps could definitely use some polishing, especially compared to iOS, but it's not a bad device if you only want to spend $200 and don't live on your phone.

Just ordered the 128 GB 2024 Moto Stylus from eBay with the Tracfone deal 1500 minutes deal for $80.00 plus tax. One year to unlock, but will be combined with Tracfone previous deal minutes. There is a rumor that Tracfone is still automatically unlocking 60 days after activation. Can anyone confirm? Is this phone at $199 better than the Googlefi deal for the 2025 Motorola Stylus at $140?

No it's not, at least for 3 of the tracfone phones I activated
I don't think it will until the 2026 is out, I don't recall seeing a 2026 stylus, unless I missed it.
There is a 2026 stylus. The unlocked 128 GB comes for $500 on Motorola's website. Plus 2 free gifts: MOTO BUDS 2 PLUS AND A TURBOPOWER 125W CHARGER. Plus GET AN EXTRA $120 OFF with trade in of most phones.
VIPOutlet via eBay has had this phone go in and out of stock the last couple weeks at $84 before any discounts. I received mine yesterday and so far pretty impressed. It goes fast once in stock so maybe set up alerts https://ebay.io/m/qKE951

I ordered 2 of those, both were locked to UsCellular and the 128GB version.

I think there are no more OS updates, and security updates end sometime next year.
