A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Solid fun! 140 minutes of pure entertainment. Hulk steals the movie Thumbup
Amen!

Watched another handful of movies over the weekend:
Ride 'em Cowboy (1942) - I have been watching the Abbott and Costello movies in chronological order, heading towards when the boys meet Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, etc., but I think I am going to take a little A&C break and just jump to the movies I want to watch. I am sooooo glad that movies don't sneak in a couple of songs for no reason like they did back in those days.

Your Highness (2011) - While this movie wasn't serious by any means, it was a little more serious than I thought it would be. I was hoping it would be funnier, but it was okay. It would probably be great if you watched it while lit up.

The Avengers 2D (2012) - This one lived up to the hype and then some. The theater was absolutely packed, and I couldn't see any empty seats from our perch. Some touching moments and lots of LOLs and "ooh's!" and "ahh's!" from the audience. Highly recommended if you are into movies of that ilk.

Another vote for Avengers. The dialogue in the movie was terrible but luckily I don't care. There was lots of fighting, explosions, and The Hulk. 5/5.
i figured this was the case. don't think i'll be seeing it.

I'd like to hear some examples of the "terrible dialogue." I was suprised at how good the dialogue was. They even got various hero catchphrases in there without them sounding like catchphrases/being corny.

The bravado and arrogance in the opening scene with Black Widow was a bit much for me, though. Not terrible, but a bit much.

Yeah, that post represents the sole derogatory comment towards the dialogue that I've heard.

The Amish (PBS) - Kinda wish they'd spent a little more time on marriage because, no offense to them, but they look inbred. There was no mention of traveling to other states for mates or dates. Overall, beautifully done, touching, thought-provoking, and quite interesting.

It was a wonderful movie! It is what it is! An action packed. AVENGERS movie!!! What is everyone expecting? A dissertation on the social status of Americans in Manhattan while being pummeled by aliens?? Leave that to the politicians....and let the Avengers just kick ass!!!

Saw War Horse last weekend. Lame horse movie. Probably good for kids just too schmaltzy for me. Very drug out also. Glad it was a redbox freebie! Gonna watch The Descendants this coming weekend.

i'm not really an action movie person, and the only thing that will pull me into one is great story/dialogue or humor. based on the previews and talking to a few friends who have seen it, it doesn't seem like the writing is anything to, well, write home about, and i've yet to have anyone comment on how funny it is, so i just don't think it's for me.

Seriously? I think it had great humor and dialogue throughout the entire movie! Honestly, that's the most that I hear people mention, more than the action scenes. Whee I still laugh when talking about certain scenes.

i'm sure it's a fine comic book superhero movie; all i'm saying is that it doesn't look like something i'd enjoy.

Just curious, what recent movie would you consider has a great story/dialogue or humor?

off the top of my head:

dialogue: Inglourious Basterds
humor: Zombieland
both: Sherlock Holmes (the first)

If you liked those movies, I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy this.

so it has the extended, dry, non-action dialogue sequences from Inglourious Basterds, the very dark and awkward humor of Zombieland, and the clever wit of all the characters in Sherlock Holmes? where was all that in the trailers? Big Grin

i'm sure i'll end up seeing it someday.
