The phone is a decent choice (given it's a freebie, locked for a year, and a 2024 model) -
8GB RAM
128GB + SDCARD storage
5G + 3.5mm jack + 120Hz refresh screen

It is not a flagship, but those specs make it a very decent compromise!

This deal is back - it was around not that long ago.

Depends on the store. Half of the local Walmarts have them in stock, half do not.

Shows $79 for me, too. It was 49 last time it was available for me, cuz i bought it & returned it because the SIM was missing. Strange.

Edit: here's a "Walmart family mobile" version for $49, tho not sure what that service is:

one year of active service. will work fine as a wifi phone to make calls, data if you use the included mins/data sparingly off wi-fi.

This phone is currently $150-200 new/unlocked. Get it for $50 now and you just have to wait a year to unlock, not a bad deal. Great backup phone once unlocked. Or good extra media device for cheap.

Probably not bootloader unlockable due to Verizon being the parent carrier.
Same for the Walmart service mentioned. OK for a burner or wifi device maybe, but you are stuck with unrootable stock OS, which won't receive updates by the time it's Sim unlocked.

The recently discovered GhostLock vulnerability should help, but there's no tool for this phone yet.
