BP oil spill. People are paying attention NOW, aren't they? *mad face*

Unless my "search" button is broken, I can't find any threads about this oil spill.

Aren't there some Loungers here from the Gulf Coast area, besides myself?

This thing is going to be bad. Really bad. Sadwalk

I grew up in Pensacola, FL and have spent my whole life on these beaches. Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Navarre, Destin ... they are beautiful. And they have already suffered so much devastation over the years from hurricanes and now they have to endure THIS?

If this goes on long enough and the oil makes it's way into the Florida Keys, that will be the end of the natural coral reef habitat. What about the dolphins and fish and turtles and birds?

Environmental disaster aside, I can't even imagine what the economic impact is going to be. Weeping

Misty, I saw those reports today and could not believe how they are defending Tony Hayward and BP! They couldn't care less about what is happening to the Gulf Coast and the people down here.
The Daily Mail has a way of inflaming people and slanting a story. I've been on the DM website long enough to know how the Brits love to build people/industries/countries up just to tear them down. They'd eat their young if it served a purpose. I was in London some years ago, and the place had a very negative, self-loathing, America wanna be - but hating us at the same time, kind of weird vibe.

And that company probably hasn't made a dime since he invested in it and now he sees his opportunity....
Care to dig up some financial records (if available) for us? I'm in your boat in that it seems like he is cashing in when he sees the chance.

Of course he's going to spout off about how his stuff works. He's invested $25M into them. If they don't work, he's out more money than most people would make in 25 lifetimes.

Nah, for all I know maybe the company has been successful otherwise and has really made money. That really doesn't matter because this is just him jumping on an opportunity to plug his own product. Every wannabe inventor out there with an idea is doing the same thing these days and BP (or the government for that matter) can't possibly try out every possibility.

If it turns out that faulty cementing caused the explosion, then Haliburton should be held responsible, along with BP.

As for Costner, he invested millions in a product that is designed to be used for oil spill cleanups.Of course he is pitching it now, what other time would he choose to pitch his product Huh (he did try to sell his product to the US 10+ years ago but was told it wouldn't be needed)

BP states the 6 units they have are working at extracting the oil and they have purchased 32 more. If this works, the oil will still be usable as well. I hope it works, and I hope Mr. Costner charged BP a $hitload of money for his machines.

We have an (ex) friend that lives in London and every visit from him left us feeling icky. Very negative guy.

Kevin Costner sells 32 oil spill machines to BP to recycle 6 million gallons of water a day.

LINK [examiner.com]

Wednesday, Kevin Costner presented his oil spill solution to Congress and demonstrated his machine that recycles and separates oil from water with a 99.9% success rate. Actor, Kevin Costner said that he was inspired by the Exxon-Valdez oil spill in 1989 to come up with an idea that would safely separate oil from water, and over the years he has spent over $20 million on the machine and the patent for it.

There's been some question as to why I'm here, Costner told the House Energy and Environment subcommittee on Wednesday. I want to assure everyone here it's not because I heard a voice in a cornfield, Costner said joking about the Field of Dreams movie he made several years ago.

Costner said that over the years he has had a difficult time getting any interest in buying the machines. He said he performed for the Coast Guard, private companies, and the government, but no was interested.

My enthusiasm for the machine was met with apathy, said Costner.

But in May, BP asked for 6 of Costners machines to be flown to the Gulf to be tested. And now BP has ordered 32 of the machines because they have an almost 100% success rate in separating oil from ocean water. The machines, marketed by Ocean Therapy Solutions take in the oily water and recycle the water. 32 machines will process about 6 million gallons of water each day.

I'm surprised the Air Force didn't show up and escort them out of the airspace, seeing as how the Coast Guard has joined forces with BP to run people off of public beaches. It's horrible. I keep thinking about my years in Destin and those beautiful beautiful beaches and wondering what their fate is Sadwalk

Anybody gonna watch the president try to convince us that he has been right on top of this oil spill all along?

He should be starting his speech any minute now.

You can bet the first thing he will talk about is everything he has (supposedly) been doing so far. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I hate the way my regular TV viewing was interrupted by this. I missed some of Hell's Kitchen because of it. I'm more interested in as to how this might affect BP's stock price (just out of morbid curiosity, I don't own any).
