Is Five Guys really that good?

10,159 June 10, 2010 at 05:17 PM in Grocery
A Five Guys burger joint just opened today in my area....the first in CA, I believe. I'm dying to go check it out. Maybe this weekend. Is all the hype justified?drool

five guys is over rated

the hamburgers are good, but so are home cooked burgers

the fries are edible, I know some people that love them, but I think it is over priced for the quality. Sure the quantity is great, but I don't like 2 pounds of french fries.

I eat it maybe twice a year.

Then again I know people that think it is godly and eat it at least once a week.

5 Guys has popped up all over the place here in the Tampa Bay area. Some took over Fatburger locations. They are simply the best burgers I have ever had. Since I LOVE fresh cut fries cooked in peanut oil, I'm a big fan of their fries as well. Bacon Cheeseburger (the double), with mayo, lettuce, ketchup, and mustard. Yummmmm! I think I may go this weekend now that my mouth is watering for it.

I was just out in the LA area for 8 days. I didn't go to In and Out because quite a few locals out there all said that their burgers just "Ok". The beer selection in west LA sucks!

I could really go for some cajun fries (no monster style please).
What's monster style?

Where I live in NJ, we have a Five Guys and a Cheeburger Cheeburger. Both let you have your choice of toppings. IMO Cheeburger Cheeburger is 100% better than Five Guys hands down. For those of you who lack a Cheeburger restaurant....

That looks good, wish there was one here.

I wasn't as impressed with Five Guys as I thought I would be
Enjoyed Red Robin much more

Red Robin is freakin' AWESOME! Woot

Their chicken burgers are so good. Licklips And yes, the bottomless fries are great - I love their seasoning blend, too. Grin
To each his own, I guess. I think Red Robin's burgers are mediocre. I don't care for their fries and HATE the seasoning they put on them. Always ask for no seasoning when I go there. I don't like steak fries in general.

Here in NJ where? Maybe we'll try the one near you since the one in NJ that we went to was so 'meh'. BTW, if you want regular fries and someone you're sharing with wants Cajun style, just ask for a container of the spice and you can throw it on much the way they do but in an amount that makes you happy.

For the first time ever, my Five Guys burger tonight was overcooked. Absolutely grey and dry in the center. Sadwalk

Five Guys started here in the DC area. I haven't found a bad Five Guys in the area. Maybe it just depends where you are and how the staff are trained? Dontknow

I was able to check them out today. The burgers were pretty good. I like them more than In & Out.....juicer/thicker because they're handmade patties versus In & Out's which are flat, probably machined made patties, which are all the same size/thickness. As for the fries, I like them much more than In & Out fries. 5 Guys fries reminds me of Boardwalk Fries which aren't around anymore....maybe only on beach boardwalk areas now.
