I am curious. When you fellow SD'ers dine in a Chinese restaurant (no, Panda Express doesn't count!Stick Out Tongue), what do you order? Typical sweet and sour pork, General Tso's Chicken?

Chicken Lo Mein or Sweet and Sour Chicken. Always the eggrolls, of course.

Duck feet for the loss! vomit
Duck feet is good. Chicken feet is good. Tripe is also good. Yummy yummy.

As Anthony Bourdain stated, these will never fly in the U.S. with most Americans because they can't get past the mental aspect of it and the texture. Flavor-wise, it's delicious. Even reknown TV host, Richard Zimmern, can't get past the texture of those foods.

I usually try to get some of those little corns and get upset if I ordered something without them. Nothing like a baby corn and smashed green beans!

My favorites: Sesame Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Orange Chicken, General Tso Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Mu Shu Pork, Fish filet in black bean sauce, Honey Walnut Prawns, Garlic Prawns, Sizzling Rice Soup

z2g, what do you recommend as good 'authentic' dishes?

I have had a lot of very authentic, home cooked Chinese/Cambodian food. While it was good, most wasn't exactly what I'd choose to eat if I was paying for it. Not sure what most of it was even called to find it on a menu and I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to find a lot of it on menus unless I was in the International District.

I don't know if "authentic" is the term I would use for the dishes we usually order. We sometimes get common dishes too because they're good. But, we also get other dishes that most Americans don't order. Actually, some of the items you listed above are some that we usually get....like the fish in black bean sauce or the Walnut prawns. We also usually get Pepper/Salt shrimp, Pepper/Salt crab, Lobster with ginger/scallion sauce, Clams with black bean sauce, Sea Bass with scallions/ginger sauce to name a few. When in season, we also like abalone stirfry dishes.

I'm down with General Tso's chicken and house special spareribs too though, which are more common fare.
