as is, people don't even know how to drive with speed limit, if there were none, people would be flying off the roads, literally, and dying every half second
worst time i did it was in a car with no music other than the radio, and with no ac during late august. i was just sitting there dripping sweat.
For me - just stopping for gas and potty breaks - I drove from CT to GA several years ago - 17 hours or so. Then my wife took over until FL where I resumed driving. We were driving from CT to my uncle's place in Sarasota.

Boston to Houston....2 times both with 2 people driving...first time was mostly me, massive tunnel vision by the time I got to "hell road", I-95 I think it was...long time ago. Second time was round trip, me and mom spilt the driving...hit a tornado in LA and had to pull off the road.
Boston to Ft.Lauderdale and back....2 times...2 people, again mostly me because he didn't have a license so I let him drive slow during the day and I made the time up at night.
Boston to South Carolina...once..straight all the way, I think we made it in 18 hours or so.
These were all a long time ago, I love traveling and seeing the scenery. I wish I could do it more today. It was fun. Those were my longest trips, but had many more then I listed.
My next trip I want to do is Boston to Sedona, AZ..
The whole trip was a result of the fact that I had to fly from overseas to Boston instead of Chicago because it was too hot in Chicago for the airline to take my dog in the cargo area but that's another story . . .

One time I was too damn tired...middle of summer like 70 degrees at 3 am...somewhere just south of Redding...pulled over at an off ramp...pulled the seat back and crashed, windows wide open, etc...
woke up ~ 2hrs later as dawn was setting in only to find that I had 1,000,000+ bugs and mosquito's in the hatch back!
That woke my stupid ass up!!! 0-95mph with the windows still down to try and clear those bastards out of the car!!!!
~~
I used to drive from San Jose to Sacramento daily for about 6 mos...I had this one exit that I'd pull over on the way up for a quick snooze...well one time I was totally out of it..was up too late the night before, etc...I backed into my little "spot" just off the freeway and crashed out...I was so tired I left the engine running, lights on, etc...doors locked, windows up. (wasn't warm enough to have them down)
I am startled awake by a tapping of a baton on my window!!!!
Sheriff had stopped to make sure I was ok...after I jumped back into my skin, he says...it's ok...good idea to keep resting if you are tired...after the shot of adrenaline I was WIDE awake and headed on in to work.

Dallas to Jacksonville, FL also about 1,000 miles in a Ford Pinto Station Wagon, crammed full of boxes. That one was interesting because it was during the 1979 gas crisis and people were lined up for blocks in the city waiting their turn for gas. On the interstate, it wasn't as bad which was probably because so many people had canceled their summer road trips for fear of not being able to find gas.
