hi creatures. just back from PT.
waited 45 mins on crutches in the heat for a cab to come get me. Mad what is with cab companies - why must they keep telling you a cab will be there any moment now? if one of us did that with our business/work lives, we'd be history.

returned home, straight to major family drama.
now that the tears shouting and screaming are done, i have my hurting self nicely ensconced on a soft couch, trying to decide what to eat, and trying to talk myself into going back out, this time to staples.

there's a cvs in the PT lot. so i went to do the paper towel/tp/tissues deal. they didn't have any lotion free tissues. Frown so, i just got pt/tp. went to pay and realized i didn't have any of my gcs with me. Frown ended up paying 25.xx something on my credit card. Faint
will have to do a return rebuy with receipt to transfer payment to gc by tomorrow. Facepalm

I have never made a homemade apple pie or cobblerEmbarrassment I want to start baking more things from scratch, but I have always been the kind who buys a frozen pie and cooks it.
Well, in my defense, DH isn't a big sweet eater, and I don't need it, so I don't make things like that often. My DH only likes a few kinds of deserts.. and they are your simple kid kind of stuff.. rice krispy treats, lemon icebox pie, etc..
....
kudos on news about DS hon. that is great!
and, TGIF! totally!

pies... so I'm no longer a big dessert eater (multiple Lenten fasts took care of that). And my tribe doesn't have many big pie fans. which means I only make em once in a while. but oh, it is a) so easy and b) so delicious. you should totally do it!
the first time I ever made one was in college. I made a blueberry pie when mum was visiting me. despite not being a big pie fan, she decided to have a slice since it was about being a fan of her daughter rather than of the dessert heart and what do you know, she LOVED IT. so much that she took my recipe and also asked me to make it for her a few more times before she left (it was an extended visit over the summer). bounce

then later that year i made an apple pie. my roommates polished it all off. i got a sliver. and i realized, i'm never again buying a pie in a store. so now, i generally only eat pie when I make it. Big Grin

i can't eat apples from the supermarket so almost every yr i go apple picking a few times. we also do it for my mil's bday in oct. it's an activity all 3 generations enjoy doing together which is difficult to find. my mil even climbs into the trees, even though you aren't supposed to. this yr i will try organic apples and see if my digestive system will tolerate them. i just eat the apples. i never make anything w/ them.

forgot to mention they changed the formulation of sunlight dishwashing liquid for sensitive skin. it's more watery and i'm getting the itchy rash on the back of my hands when i was some dishes. now i have to find another dishwashing liquid w/o that preservative, sigh!
apples... is it the wax you are allergic to? likely.
at TJ's they have signs indicating which ones are waxed etc.
at WF they generally sell em by the bushel when season comes around.
but you can always call your local WF, and find out if they have organic ones without any coating put on em.

the organic waxes (when they are waxed at all) are different. and even still, when you get it, rinse it in a mix of lemon juice and baking soda and use a vegetable brush to clean the skin. that will take care of any residues that might be bothering your tummy.

dish soap - not sure which preservative you are allergic to, but here:

homemade dish soap recipes [bonzaiaphrodite.com]

types of castile soap [treehugger.com]

i just use the dr bronners unscented castile and love it.
i use it as a body wash and face wash and for handwashing dishes. it lathers beautifully and does a great job of cleaning. they also have peppermint, citrus, lavender and rose ones. but i can't take the fragrances.

but there are several other brands of castille soap, and the prices vary, too depending on the brand.

Morning.

Surgery went without further incident. They will be discharged today. Downside, they found blood behind the retina in the center. He probably will not regain vision in the center of his left eye. Right eye, they will operate in 3-4 weeks, but that one is worse than the left eye. Keep praying for our miracle!

DS16 came home from football practice the other night. He was wearing his knee brace, but went for a tackle and came down hard on it. Swelled right up, and he can't bend it back very far. Has been icing it, but the trainer called him a wimp. Yes, this is the woman who told him he bruised something, when he actually severed his ACL and tore his meniscus. Granted, she doesn't have xray vision, but she is an adult. Now the rest of the team is treating him terribly, and he is bummed. I need a massive roll of bubble wrap for that boy. Oh, he got his driver's license last week. I need to stock up on hair color. Too many grays coming out!
sending prayers for trevor. that little thing has been going through so much.
sending prayers for your DS, too. he really should have that knee looked at.

It occurred to me yesterday that we're only 4 months away from Christmas.
I bought two Christmas ornaments today. HyVee has had a display out for over a month. Today I caved and bought two with my kid's names on them. They have fairly common names, especially my daughter, and I figured they'd sell out.

I also starting making a list for one gift. I'm doing a basket for my mom of Iowa produced food products. In this very rural small area that I am in, it's very surprising how many marketed food products there are. Not just at the farmers markets, etc. but sold in regular stores.

My Christmas shopping has plummeted. Other than my mom, I have my two kids. That's it. DH and I don't do gifts anymore. There is nothing we want or need. I'm trying to get rid of stuff, not accumulate more.

I have this set [att.com]. Actually, I have two of those sets. I think it's that one, it looks just like it anyway. It works very well. We just use it as a land line but I had it linked to a cell and tested and used it that way for a while and work fine. It sounded normal too.

And, I got some great news yesterday.. My 14 year old DS has been on seizure medication for 9 years.. He started having them when he was 5 and they never figured out why. They always told us that the hope was he would outgrow them.. he hasn't had any in over 8 years now, but everytime they test his EEG, it is always abnormal, so we have kept him on meds.. We test every 2 years, but the nuerologist decided he wanted to test this year because he said it is important to try to get them off meds and see how they do before they start to drive.. He actually told us that even if it was abnormal, we could decide if we wanted to try it anyway. I have been really praying about it and didn't want to be put in the position of trying to decide what to do..
Anyway, they called me last night and told me for the first time ever, his test was totally normal woot Whee so, we have started the weaning process with his meds.. I was so excited that I teared up right there at dinner with DH last night Smilie
So awesome on your son!!!

And since this has been a day of great news, I'm gonna share some - my hubby passed his CCNA!!!!! This has been almost 2 years in the works, today marked his 5th attempt. I was and am SO proud of him. Both of us feel like we're floating, because such a huge burden has been lifted. He now has one (much smaller) certification to get and then he will most likely be promoted to senior engineer in Oct, which involves a *huge* pay raise. I am just so excited for him, because he has worked so hard and was getting depressed because he couldn't pass it. Thank You, God!!!!

Set up was delightfully easy today and it was up and running quickly. Other thing that will be nice is that dh is notorious for leaving his phone inside, then going outside and I end up chasing down his phone when it rings and he isn't in here to answer it. Now we have it set up so that both go to the landline, so either can answer. You can set it up however you like. We prefer this way Smilie Seems to work really well so far.

Thanks, tn and HD. It is pretty great news, I will definitely say that. On many levels. Right now, its just such a relief to not have it hanging over our heads and to know that our financial limitations will soon be lifted.

Hubby's boss texted him to start thinking of somewhere he wants to go to lunch next week. He told me, "Five Guys". Faint I was like, "Of all the cool places in DC you could go to, you would choose Five Guys?!?" laugh out loud Men!

So this week, we are going from an earthquake and its various aftershocks to a hurricane!! Crazy, I tell ya! But it looks like Irene will pass far enough to the east of us that it won't cause too much damage. That's my prayer, anyway. nod

OK, after watching 3 episodes of Psych with my hubby, it is time for bed! Yard salers wait for no one and the alarm comes early!

morning Yawn drinking coffee and enjoying a wonderful Saturday morning Smilie

HD- I have the same problem with stock.. Mine has been out of bread all week. Finally went to the ST last night and got some. And the ST had a much bigger selection of nabisco.. I found a few packs that I had never ever seen before so I don't think the others stores carry them. My ST had multipacks with animal crackers, lorna doone, and teddy grahams.. plus the big 12 packs of chips ahoy only. There wasn't even a spot for those at the other 2 stores.. So, I may go back there again today to stock up more.
My ST store also carries caprisun lemonade which I hadn't seen at the other stores.

I hope your stores restock for you!

Happy shopping everyone! I cleaned my house yesterday so I am planning on hitting a few targets today!

morning!

i think i am shopped out. just did not feel like going out yesterday or today and don't think i will find much anyway b/c of all the panicking about the hurricane. we could use a loaf of bread but i very highly doubt there is even a crumb left. we don't really eat all that much bread so not a big deal. i have tons of crackers. hmmm, maybe i should pop some popcorn saturday night? nah! i have boxes and boxes of breakfast cereal that need to be eaten, chips, free oreo cups, etc. we will be totally sick of junk food if we have to subsist on it for even a couple days.

i have a 10 off 10 kohls card i think is expiring tomorrow and i just don't feel like going out today. Hide i normally never leave money on the table but just not in the mood. wonder if they will honor it on monday b/c i'm sure they will be closed tomorrow.

later today i think i will just fill up some big pots of water and put them on the counter as well as fill up any pitchers i might have since we have advance warning. i've thought about buying water but where the heck to you keep it? i always maintain at least a case of the 16.9oz bottles and i still have plenty of bottled drinks.

charged up my cellphone, charged up a whole bunch of rechargeable batteries, we bought gas at costco on the way home on wed so we have more than the recommended half tank of gas. dh brought in the hose reels and our sad orange plant yesterday. just have to bring in the bbq grill we never use later. and close up the bathroom windows i normally leave open a little.

ok, let me go get some stuff taken care of. later!
