also need to buy a new dehumidifier. any recommendations?

i always use a duvet cover and it never slides around.
We, I guess I should say DD just got really lucky. She needs a dehumidifier for the basement of her new house. We just got her two identical, really nice ones at an auction. $5 each. DH opened them up, blew the inside out, one was dirty, one wasn't. They both work perfectly.

Duvet -- I'm sure she will look for a comforter or bedspread but if she happens to find something she loves and it's a duvet cover, I think she can just buy it and use her old comforter -- as long as the cover is dark/heavy enough. We can take a few stitches in each corner to hold it in place, or maybe sew in a small tie (shoelace maybe?) in each corner and tie around the corner tip of the comforter. Her comforter has been washed enough that it won't bleed or anything so it can just stay in there.

While we are that far, I think we might go into the next town -- where the Target is and run into Menards (a home store, like Home Depot or Lowes, only better). Their ad says they have 25% off clearance appliances. Might check it out for DD. She needs a stove and fridge.

Don't forget to look for the FAR stuff while your at Menards. I bought the TIGI hair products. haven't tried them yet. They are scented but I forgot to smell them. It felt weird buying hair products from a home improvement store. laugh out loud There is other stuff too, but I went on my lunch hour and didn't have time to wander around on the store. I believe plants are clearanced too.

How old is your son? Have you seen/read the series of books "A History of US". Joy something... Hakim (gotta love Google). Good chance you can find them at the library and I know you can find them used one at a time if you don't want to spring for the set. I'd bet about anything you could find everything you wanted to go with them online -- lesson plans, tests/quizzes, etc.

Reading in 60 Easy Lessons -- I remember just exactly what you are talking about but I don't remember the exact title either.

Numbers -- just grab some cheap workbooks and refrigerator magnets. If you do the SSRW, I'm pretty sure it teaches numbers too. I can't swear to that but I think so.
Extra prayed said here for you to have the strength and lack of pain that you need to do what you want to do.
Yep on the shift change.. We did that off and on for years.. DH used to work 8p-4:30 am.. we stayed up pretty late and slept in the morning so we would be quiet with he was sleeping..
And once he worked 3 til midnight.. My oldest 2 were little and we would be waiting up when he got home to see him and snuggle.. Heck, even when my oldest were elementary school age, we used to work our schooling around his off days. He was off Monday and Tuesdays, so we didn't do any school on those days at all.

Thanks for the history info.. I will look into it. My DS in in 9th grade. I actually found the history book I was looking for on my bookshelf Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) guess it was buried. My DD used it 2 years ago. I would have been pretty mad if I bought it again laugh out loud

Hi ladies- Hope everyone is doing well and getting lots of T shopping trips in before the latest MQ expire. I wanted to send a quick update on my daughter.

We found out last Thursday that she had passed away in utero, just shy of 25 weeks. I was admitted into L&D on Friday and had her a little after midnight on Saturday morning. She was 13 ounces and looked perfect. We don't know exactly what caused her to pass, but she had Downs Syndrome, a resolved Cystic Hygroma, and potentially 2 heart defects. We are very sad and miss Hope Elizabeth.

I was able to go home before the hurricane, but we ended up losing power for 3 days. Setsail has been a great friend and sent some great resources to help me deal with this. hug

I'm still recovering from childbirth, but hope to be out and about by this weekend. I am in desperate need of shopping to keep my mind off everything going on.

Hugs to everyone who has supported me through these difficult and crazy months. It's hard to believe it's only been 3 months since this all started.
I can't tell you how sorry I am for your loss. You know how to reach me, even though I'm afraid I may not be able to do much more than cry with you.

So I took my youngest to get her haircut. She wanted short hair. I told the hairstyle list to just cut it to her shoulders, because I wasn't ready for short hair Smilie but somehow it ended up shorter then what I was expecting. EEK! I do realize that the hair will shrink when it is dried then when it's wet, but oh well. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) She Loves it. I think it's cute, but I will miss her long hair. I'm afraid her waves will be gone forever.
I think it looks cute!

How old is your oldest? 10th grade?

I am still looking for an inexpensive US History for my DS.. I wanted Bob Jones or Abeka.. but haven't found anything in my price range yet.

Also, gonna look around for some kind of curriculum to start working with my youngest.. we already do phonics stuff and she recognizes some letters.. She knows colors, shapes, etc.. but, we need to work on recognizing numbers too. It has been awhile and I can't remember what I used to teach the others at the beginning..
The 11 year age gap caused me to forget a few things..

I am going to look into HOP, or SIng, Spell, Read, and Write as Gt suggested... There was another one I remember.. learning to read in 60 lessons or something to that effect..

Need to research some stuff! I am excited to have a little one to work with again. I heart homeschooling the kids when they were young.. when they hit HS age, not so much shake head I was looking at field trips online tonight too Smilie
Yes, she is going into 10th grade. It's always funny to me how our kids are similar ages, and we have the same birth date.

Monkey toddler, I mean preschooler, is in the same place. He is too energetic to sit and listen much less do much of anything else at this moment. I do have some puzzle and craft workbooks to do with him this fall, and I bought HOP a few years ago so maybe we'll do some of that near the end of the school year. I was checking on prices for the SSRW, that's what led me to eBay in the first place. There is a level 1 set that is much lower in price, I need to ask GT what the difference is.

megnsam, hug and congrats on starting on a wonderful new life!

Glad you found the book! 9th grade level... I can't remember the level of those books. Although, really, it's a book, series actually, does it matter as long as the info is correct and complete? It's been a lot of years, but I remember reading the first one or two and I liked it.

I think I am going to have glass cut for the tops of my living room end table. We bought solid maple tables and DH and I are very hard on end tables. I have a place mat on mine and coaster on top of that. But, I noticed a few really small scratches so I'm thinking glass for protection. Soooo, do I want to load up two of them and take to the glass place today? I have 4 -- two of each size. So, I will take one of each and we won't be without ours.

I need to get dressed and get moving. Yet, here I sit...

Gt doesn't know. I used a version that was for adults or older children with reading problems. I don't think it's even available anymore, which is too bad.

And way back when, I swear there was just one version of the little kids set. I did notice there is more stuff now -- gotta keep raking in the cash.

I think I would probably look at the youngest set to get started. I recall seeing K-1. Really, once they are reading, even at a beginner level, they are reading and it's just practice from there -- and plain, old books, work just fine.

ETA: Are you familiar with Rainbow Resource? I just did a quick check of their website and it looks like it is as good as it always was. Sign up for their catalog. OMG, I loved that catalog. It's huge. And they have everything. The descriptions were in depth and spot on for everything I found. There are also user reviews on the website and their used to be in the catalog. Obviously, I haven't gotten a catalog in years. That was my go-to book for just about everything curriculum related. (Remember, the internet wasn't what it is now) That sucker would come and I would spend an entire day just going through it.

I can still sing the Ferris Wheel Song all the way through. laugh out loud

Don't know that I will go to Target at all. I guess I should scan the wiki and deals and see if there is anything I can't miss.....

Shift change, well, I was going to say, adjust your and her schedule to his. So what if you kid is up all night and sleeps all day if that is YOUR schedule. But then you went and screwed that up with that AM preschool.laugh out loud......
Pffffft. Hardly!! laugh out loud The only thing bad about a bigger house is that it's far more to take care of Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) This move and subsequent changes (most for the good....change nonethelesslaugh out loud) have really thrown me for a loop organization-wise. And it is so weird that Target isn't 5 min. away like it used to be. Gotta get my schedule more organized so I'm not wasting gas and running in to town so much.

I DID think about this as far as the potential new schedules but dd really needs the social time and to meet some little friends her age and this seems to be the norm out here. Part of moving out here was dh and I deciding that we would be OK with the decision to send her to school here if we decided we wanted to. The private school is just too far away now and I am still undecided on the home school thing...I know I know. I've actually felt more CAPABLE in the few past months BUT I am starting to feel like it may just not be for dd's personality type. I mean, I'm sure we could make it work but I think this alternative will be a good one too. *If* dh gets stuck on this schedule for a long time I may still home school. I wrestled with the whole, "well, but then I'd have to pull dd out of school right before Kindergarten and she'll not be happy with me...." thing. And ultimately I decided we'll just deal with whatever comes. Bleh, I hate these decisions where I feel like I don't like any of the options really LMAO

I don't mind the late schedule but with a lot of the other commitments I have at "normal" people times I'd have to give most all of those up for us to be on the same schedule as dh. Which may seem like a no-brainer but I don't think it would be good for dd or I to go through life having very little social interaction with the outside world because of our odd schedules. This would make me semi-depressed - we are pretty social people. I dunno, it's just gonna depend on what he gets. There *is* a secondary shift bid and some other options as well but I just don't feel real hopeful about the whole thing. It will work out somehow.

We have had non-typical shifts since we were married and always liked them and done pretty much what you describe up until now. And there are definite perks to some of those shifts too. I almost liked it better when he worked the 2-10ish schedule in some ways. If we choose to homeschool in the end we may be able to do more of that but I'm still not sold on it being the best option for dd or myself right now - not opposed just not sure. The school is really, really small and all the people are soooo friendly here - this is not helping things any laugh out loud I still kind of feel like I want to go back to work if dd goes to school. Just not sure. And who knows, we may have another kid by then --- I think dh is ready for another one; me - I don't know!

a story you creatures will find interesting:

i check email first thing this morning and this guy has written in in response to a craigslist posting saying he wants to buy the brand new printer. ok, cool. he says he wants to do it today itself, cos he needs it ASAP. ok, cool. so i write back and say i'm in pt all morning, but can do early afternoon.

i shower, get ready to leave and in that time he writes back i'll be there at 1pm.
i race out the door to make the 1.5 hour trek to PT by walking, taking train, walking again. along the way i write to him and confirm 1, but say if you can make it closer to 130 that would be helpful, but i'll do my best to be there by 1.

I get to PT and slog through 30 mins of the bike plus 1.5 very intense hours of super painful stuff and keep checking messages every 10 minutes. he doesn't write back, so i figure ok, he wrote in a time, i confirmed, we're good.

finish PT and race out, walk 15 mins on crutches, then 25 min train ride, then 25 min bus ride on first bus, then 10 min bus ride on second bus, then 15 min walk on crutches. I get to the storage place where we have a unit just a few minutes shy of 1pm. struggle with heavy shutters and heavy boxes in packed room, and pull out the printer box. and wait. and wait. and wait. and wait.

i waited 4 hours for this man. let me say that again. 4 HOURS. he never showed up.
sent him 5 emails (he'd written to me from his blackberry, so I know he was getting the messages). no response. had to reopen the room, struggling with the heavy shutter, lift all the heavy boxes out of the way, restack everything, close room. then i walked 25 mins on crutches to a bus. 40 min ride. waited another 20 mins on crutches for the next bus. 40 min ride again. got home at 7 pm. I'd left home at 8:30 am. had one coconut water all day and one banana.

check my email right now and he's written in saying, oh it was a miscommunication, i got into a meeting. sunday night will be good.

please tell me, when did people become so rude and inconsiderate?

i am in so much pain and so tired right now, i just want to cry myself to sleep. but oh no, EVERYTHING, and i mean EVERY.SINGLE.THING for the proposed yard sale still remains to be done. and by me of course. and the merest mention of not doing one is eliciting much drama. exactly when or how i am going to get all these things pulled out, inventoried, stickered, and organized before the morning, i fail to understand.

and that friends, was my day.

good news: i stood today. that's right, i stood on both my feet. it was just for a minute or so, and was very painful still, but that's the first time in 9 months i have been able to stand normally and on both my legs. hallelujah! it felt strange. my body needs to re-learn things it learned as a toddler. but hey, that's okay. one of these days, i will stand without pain. and then i will walk without crutches. and walk without pain. i pray and wait.

... The house is coming along, though I think we are stalled a bit in doing some details. I need to hem up the kids curtains, find the rest of our books for the bookshelves in the living room, and get something for the bathrooms in the way of shelving. Between $$ and just time and willpower, not as much has been accomplished lately! But, it's getting there. Smilie Oh, we haven't quite finished some painting either. We were a bit shocked that the livingroom and hallway walls took a good 3-4 coats to cover.

GG - I hope your day goes well and smooth and with as little pain as possible. hug

Poor Miss M has a fever still. She's sleeping now - been cuddly and kind of blah all morning. She kept sitting with me and snuggling me. heart
thank you sweetie. prayers for Miss M.
4 coats? did the primer not take well? apparently. were you getting bleed through from wood paneling?

Quote from slowtech :
....
sorry you are still in so much pain. i know it's scary, but sometimes you need to work thru the pain to get to the other side, just like pt. i hope that is the case w/ you. i know the physical effort this wknd will probably bring more pain from the exertion and resulting fatigue and long unused muscles, but i hope that maybe working thru some of it will actually lessen the pain in the long run.
....
yes, that is the hope that the riding the wave of pain, will eventually help me get over the hump and to the promised land of normalcy.
problem: the current consensus amongst PCP, Ptherapist, and one rehab specialist is that I have developed a neurological condition that happens after a traumatic injury. It is a debilitating condition with no cure, and no clearly understandable physiological mechanism, save that your brain thinks that the injury still exists and acts as such. which means anytime i do any activity, my leg, arm, chest (all the injured areas) go into extreme pain mode, with shooting nerve pain, severe inflammation, stiffness, temperature changes, skin color changes, and multiple broken capillaries and tiny blood clots all over.

next friday i see a neurologist at the pain clinic. he specializes in this and the hope is we can chart out a path to successful recover. but who knows.

so for now, when i do things, it's all the muscle pain PLUS immense nerve pain and associated wierdness from this condition.

Quote from gt6mk31 :
Good morning my peeps! Gotta get dressed and head to town soon. I'm picking up a transfer plate for the guy who is planning to buy our car this afternoon. ....

.... I've been dieting again so pray that there is nasty food that I don't want.laugh out loud It's going to be one of those grab and eat or eat out with the others that are going (3 other couples). Makes it really hard to diet. I got so excited about planning another week of fishing that I forgot all about this weekend.

.....
Extra prayed said here for you to have the strength and lack of pain that you need to do what you want to do.
.....
thank you for the extra prayers sweetie. the prayers keep me going, i know that. Blowkiss

junk food at folk fest: the folk fests i've been to, there's usually a group of traveling food vendors who go from festival to festival nationwide. there's some outstandingly delicious stuff. and not all of it unhealthy.
siri grill is this place that sells thai food. they make these to die for grilled marinated chicken on skewers. oh.my.god.
there's a middle eastern food vendor (can't remember name) who has stunningly awesome lamb kebobs, beef kebobs and chicken kebobs. you can get the grilled meat on a skewer with a side of rice etc, or you can get em rolled up in freshly made yummy flat bread with crunchy veggies and sauces of your choice. oh.my.god.
and there are many more delectable ones like that. if you look up the folk fest page, they generally have a list of the vendors and their offerings.

how did your car sale go?

kudos to you for disengaging from what must have been such a draining and emotional process, and for starting down a new path. sending many prayers your way for happiness, peace and fulfillment in the days ahead.

yeah i kept emailing him, thinking if i leave and he comes by, it would be awfully hard to get back there since its on a highway. plus i had already pulled the printer out at great pain, and was dreading putting it back.

but there is a God. there are going to be thunderstorms tomorrow so no gs tomorrow. instead i get to spend the day dealing with stockpile boxes. sigh.

Do you take trains, etc. to all your appointments because of where you live or are you unable to drive since the accident?

i'm unable to drive since the accident.
my shoulder is very painful and gives me arm pain down my entire right arm.
the pain in my left knee makes it hard for me to sit normally - as in i cannot sit in a chair or have my legs down from a seat. i have to always sit with my leg up and outstretched and supported.

all these days i was managing to request and beg family members to take me places. but it's gotten to be too much for folks to do that after 9 months, since it means altering people's schedules etc. so i am left to try to use public transportation. cabs are too expensive.

my doc has put in for a request for the public transportation authority's special shuttle service for the handicapped/disabled etc. it's a van with a ramp, and they pick you up at your place and drop you off at your medical appts. i don't think you're allowed to use it for errands, but medical appts would be much easier with that. but i am at their decision making mercy. it takes a month or more for them to decide, and with current state budget cuts, they've been denying most everyone. so, don't know if i'll get the service.

hug gg. My mom is able to use the bus service for medical appointments and in SC, at least, they will stop at a pharmacy on the way home from appts so the patient can fill prescriptions. It's a hard way to do things when you are used to your independence. And heck with that guy for carelessly wasting your time and not emailing you sooner about his change of plans/ mind.
