What does invite others to use prime mean (under the account tab) does this mean to authorize others to use my prime account for free, or does it mean to invite others that have a edu. e-mail to sign up???
^You can invite anyone (up to 4 others), with any email address to share your Prime account. You won't see any of their purchase and they won't see any of yours.
Family invites may say that they are only for one month (at least it was for my wife) but they also get a full year and 4 invites!!! - Morning_Breath
- well, for the invites it said Subscription Duration = 1 month. However, the prime account showed valid until Jul 13, 2011. So we will know if it is valid for 1-year ONLY after 30 days.
FAQ [amazon.com]
Terms and Conditions [amazon.com]
If you sign up for an Amazon Student membership, for the first year of that membership, you will receive one free year of Amazon Prime. We may choose to extend this free offer for more than one year. With Amazon Prime, you will be entitled to FREE Two-Day shipping and $3.99 per unit One-Day shipping on all eligible purchases for one year. The automatic renewal provisions in the Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions (which would require you to pay for Amazon Prime) do not apply to this membership, even if we decide to extend the free Amazon Prime offer beyond one year. There is no minimum purchase requirement. Amazon Student members will also be entitled to discounts and promotions, which we will communicate to you via e-mail or make available on the Amazon Student membership page at www.amazon.com/student.
Please use a current .edu e-mail address. Alumni addresses are not eligible.
sanjeeva7 - oh well it was worth a shot!!
This applies to graduate students as well as there is a choice for "graduate student" when signing up.
For those who are thinking about frauding the system, think again. Enrollment can easily be verified by using this website [National Student Clearinghouse - EnrollmentVerify School Participants]: http://www.studentclea
RE: Auto-renewal
This is nothing to worry about. If they do end up charging you, just call them and tell them you'd like to cancel. I had a three month trial renew on me, which I didn't catch until over a month later. I called, said I never used the service and didn't want to keep it, and they gave me a full refund on the spot.
Inviting household members
Invitation works like normal! Each Student Prime account may share the Prime benefits with 4 other people like a normal paid Prime account. -aznkuo
To invite a friend or family member, go here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/subs/pr...epage.html
Current Prime Members
You should receive an email automatically from Amazon showing that your old Prime membership was canceled and they are issuing a pro-rated refund. This has been confirmed by multiple $D members. Some users report this email being blocked by spam filters, so if you don't get it, check your spam folder.

School-Specific Information
Any Northwestern Univ (Evanston, IL) undergrads should use the @northwestern.edu that is hidden in the system....ie [email protected]. your @u.northwestern.edu account will NOT be accepted for this promo. Might work for grad students too, YMMV -Your friendly Wildcat, dragonflight

it will soon come to an end
but then again, when I look back over the year that has gone and how many orders I have placed under the $25 for FS, I have only saved maybe $30 of the $40 priced membership... so not worth it unless I need to get stuff faster, and I never do
I buy online as much as everyone and really have to wait until shipping promos or special sales to get free shopping at other sites. Amazon is consistently cheaper and have quick shipping not to mention easy returns. I can buy $5 items and get 2 day shipping unlike other sites.
I really don't know where you are getting better deals but good for you.
So when i took a look at my bank statement and saw the $79 charge, i got mad and contacted them telling them that's bad business practices and etc. they refunded the full amount which was great.
Later down the line, i think there was some exploit on the Amazon prime page that allowed you to renew using the same email/account. Maybe someone can confirm this. Another free year.
Then in 2011 I believe I went through the normal renewal process and got another free year. Now, in 3 days my membership will expire.
It was a nice run. Amazon saved me a ton on shipping cost, but for me it was more of being able to get the item at my door in 2 days. I'm really thinking of renewing now.

I gladly payed the $40 after having Prime free for two years. It is definitely worth the money for me considering how much stuff I order. I'm sure many others have done the same.
2) even if it were, it would still be free 2 day shipping. not many other sites offer this.
throwaway seems to be trolling, imo. saying something like "oh i have a good knack for this, so just trust my opinion" is not enough to sell me.
the fact is that millions of people own kindle fires right now. they sold 5.5 million units in Q4 2011.. i haven't found data for Q1 of this year, but i wouldn't be surprised if there are 10 million people with kindle fires. that just means prime accounts and renewals will likely rise.
if you are really serious about what you say throwaway, stop being so ignorant. just because you don't care for the features that come with prime, it doesn't mean that others wouldn't. it's one thing to say that the product is not for you, and it's another thing to say that it's not everyone else because you don't like it.

For some people Prime with Streaming might be a better choice, for some, Costco and Netflix (or other steaming services).
Prime isn't that great of a deal. In its current state, $20 is the max I would pay and it is reported amazon may not be breaking even at $80.
