Has anyone dealt with Staples rewards Theft??

205 28 July 17, 2010 at 01:02 PM in Question
Ok, so I have been turning in ink cartridges to staples for a while now, and have received rewards since February I believe, and I have never been able to use them except one. I usually waited til the last day before they expired and then they wouldnt work when using them online or in store they wouldnt work, so i just figured i missed my chance, and would try again next month (i know, not the smartest approach, but thats a different issue).

Anyway, since I kept having non-stop problems with my rewards, I just logged onto my account to check my status on rewards.. Well apparently, EVERY single one of my rewards was redeemed in New York by somebody buying external hard drives both times. One was in Staten Island and the other in Selden... The problem here is that I am from Indiana, and have never been to New York in my life.. Now I dont know if 'New York' shows up if you buy online, or if someone guessed my rewards account number, because I keep my computer clean and scan it constantly for everything, and have never posted any information anywhere.. I cant call the rewards people til Monday to figure this out.. Do you think they will credit me with any of these rewards, or am I screwed?

So has anyone else had this happen, or did i win the unlucky lottery again? lol

The funny part would be if someone paid $$$$ to buy a rewards check only to see that they bought their own reward check which the scammer stole. laugh out loud

Mine April Reward $40 and May Reward $100 are both stolen...Need to complain...It looks like we need to use the reward immediately after it is being issued otherwise it is stolen by this stupid scammers.

Why staples not securing their system properly?

From what I understand, you can even customize the purchased rewards with your own details. EEK!

The real funny part is that most of you who are buying coupons are probably the same ones in here complaining that yours was stolen.

You realize there's a big difference between buying a $25 off $100 coupon and buying a Rewards check?

I went into my local staples to use my $40 in rewards only to discover they were already used! The manager quickly came over and made things right. I could sense he was aware of what has been going on, sure they had some kind of conference call/meeting. What surprises me is how long this has been going on. You would think they would have caught the guy or revamped the system. I think my first rewardnwasnstolen last November!Mad

Except mine. Mine was used in New Hampshire.

If I had to guess, the thieves themselves operate out of the New York area, and they use a lot of the stolen checks themselves. The rest that they don't need they sell.

mine stolen 5/31. took all $40 and $100 rewards and left the odd amount $13 rewards check. I can't believe these are so easy to steal from what I have been reading. All my rewards were used on one purchase in FL at a physical store.

Has anyone had their Rewards stolen who DID NOT use a coupon from an outside source?
I keep checking my acct because of the posts here and my Rewards are still unredeemed. The only coupons I've used were emailed directly from Staples. Wondering if I can stop worrying about it. I would prefer not to have to purchase something small to protect them because it means the remaining balance has to be used all at once.

There's just no way that has anything to do with it. Whether yours get stolen or not seems to be completely a matter of luck.

This is what I suspect, also.

It's just the only thing that makes sense. The New York area has as lot of people, but not enough that it would explain the very high percentage of stolen checks being used there.

Well, I got a new rewards number, and they mailed me all the rewards I was due on the old account. Bonus that I got them a little early, I guess. They sent out the first $100 one that was stolen before I asked for a new number, so it still has my old number on it. We'll see what happens when I try to use it.

Good timing, FAR $105.99 software next week for me to spend it on Smilie

I got my rewards stolen last month. It was used in Queens, NY. I just checked my online account today, so I can get my rewards ready for the Quickbook deal. shake head Just contacted Staples about it today and should hear back from them some time during a weekday.

So how does this work? Do I get a new Staples Rewards #, and do my accumulated purchases transfer over to the new account? And here I am trying to get to premier. Sucks.
