On the diet issue...

I'm on the 5 Hour Target diet. I've been o/w most of my life and just got tired of being that way so I changed things.

I bought a Wii Fit that I never use. I bought diet pills that I never take.

I live on 5 hour energy shots and Target. It's probably not the best of diets but I've lost between 30 and 40 lbs since February.

Quote from JewBagel :
She most certainly did do it willfully, she stated that she knew that neither her food coupon overage nor her cash item coupons fully covered either portions of her purchase but she went ahead and let them process it with her food stamps as payment for her cash items.
So how exactly did she *willfully* make the POS system accept that amount as payment? Scratchhead

Quote :
The only incorrect part of my prior posts would be confusing your user name with that of another SDer that regularly corrects and scolds people over proper coupon usage, I do in fact apologize for that portion but you stating she did nothing wrong is advocating food stamp fraud.
Once again, she didn't do anything wrong. If Target needs to reconfigure its POS system to more accurately reflect SNAP (the new name for food stamps) eligible purchase amounts, that's not her fault. She didn't program the system.

Quote :
You took it personally and thus got overtly defensive right off the bat. She did not make her money work, she knowingly allowed food stamps (tax payer money) to be misused to benefit her wants.
The Target POS system determines what items are SNAP-eligible. The Target POS system determines the SNAP-eligible total.

The food stamps paid for the food. The food coupons (and resulting overage) paid for the non-food items. You might not like that, but that's okay. The world keeps turning...

Not all POS systems work like Target's. An area grocery store around here actually penalizes coupon-using SNAP recipients. Say I buy a dozen eggs for $1 and pack of toilet paper for $2, using a $1 MFQ on the toilet paper.... The totals should be $1 SNAP-eligible and $1 cash OOP, right? shake head Not at this store. The system sees the $2 non-food item and requires $2 to be paid in cash, regardless of coupons used.

Quote :
Said people would use it as a stepping stone; having the cash from their food budget freed up to pay those bills... get ahead... and then no longer need said assistance... but that doesn't happen because people are misusing and blatantly abusing this type of aid.
Right.

Because you can tell from a post on an anonymous Internet forum that that poster is not using the aid as a stepping stone and will be on that aid forever.

Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Quote :
They see it as a big freebie that they are entitled to and make it a lifetime and even multi-generational thing, that is common place and is truly sickening.
You know what else is pretty common place? Making blanket generalizations against other people that you can't support.

It's also pretty sickening...

vomit

Quote :
You got up on your soapbox and acted as if I were trying to say food stamps should be abolished and anyone using them should be beaten and ostracized in the streets. When I neither said nor implied anything of the sort.
Of course not. You just implied a whole bunch of other crap based off nothing but an Internet forum post. Thumbup

Apparently, you crawled inside your soapbox and taped it shut from the inside.

Quote :
If you lost your job and are not asking tax payers for a handout via public assistance... you can buy your BF whatever you want with your cash or burn twenty dollar bills for fun for all I care but when a person says their cash is in such short supply that it is either shelter and bills or food and thus must receive food stamps to feed themselves and/or their family... they owe it to the tax payers to properly allocate their cash and to not misuse or abuse food stamps, end of story.
And you're not the judge of what is "misuse" or "abuse".

End of story.

Quote :
What she allowed to happen has absolutely nothing to do with legitimate Target deals/couponing and everything to do with food stamp fraud.
Secret Repeating something doesn't make it true...

... No matter how many times you repeat it.

Quote :
At the end of the day, tax payer money that was intended for food paid for a video game and Xbox Live Points so someone could sit around and play video games... while tons of people busted their asses to put food on the table and still went to bed hungry. That will never sit right with me no matter how people try to repackage it.
And at the end of the day, some people need to judge others to make themselves feel superior.

That never sits right with me...

I'm kind of glad they moved the food stamps discussion over here....seems like people can't just -chat- about anything that involves politics/morals/ethics/opinions anymore w/o getting all huffy and madTeehee Heaven forbid we learn from one anotherWink
.
Unfortunately that doesn't happen. With the regular posters, yes. But this kind of debate always brings out the people who have never posted in here before, and for the life of themselves feel they have to persuade everyone to believe their point of view.

Ank, for me this way of eating keeps my cravings to a minimum since I don't have swings in blood sugar. My energy stays high, I don't have sugar headaches, and I generally feel so much better. If I actually sit down and count my calories, without trying I eat around 1500 per day. Some days a little more, some a little less but I'm never hungry and that's key for me nod
Quote from love2beeamom :
That is how I feel as well. I was trying to explain that to some friends this weekend. They were having birthday cake and encouraged me to just have "a little".. but what they don't realize is that I haven't had sugar in a month now and I don't crave it anymore. That one taste would open up doors that I am trying to keep closed. And it is weird, but I don't ever seem hungry lately. The first time I tried, I remember being really hungry in the beginning. but now, I just make sure I eat atleast every 6 hours, and I am good... Having a stable blood sugar makes me feel much betterbounce
Iagree Sugar is the devil.

Wave hope you had a great vacation!
Quote from flugette :
Speaking of my boy, he is having some strange poop problems.
Keeping in mind that I am pretty sure he's on the very mild/high functioning end of the autism spectrum (we've never had him tested, but my mommy instinct knows he's not completely like other kids) and some things just don't sink in very well with him. I feel like a failure as a mom that he is still struggling with bathroom issues at his age, and I guess I'm looking for reassurance here.
.
hug You're not a failure! I think alot of boys have this problem. I also think it could be the fibre bars. Any change in diet could cause something different, and those things are definitely a change in diet.
Quote from JewBagel :
It involved the way Target applies coupons to purchase totals so I guess whomever moved it felt it was relevant to this thread.
It's relevant as long as it is chat. When it becomes a debate it needs to go to the podium. Feel free to go there and start a thread. wave

We were spared from the worst of the storms last night. Just rain and some thunder/lightening for a little while. The lightening was wicked though, and sooo close. The thunder shook the entire house and lasted for the longest time I've ever felt a thunder bolt last. It felt like an earthquake. Forecast is calling for more today. Hope it's moved on before the AC people get here.

Went to T yesterday. Used a ton of coupons as my favorite Ninja was there. 6 boxes of free cereal. Some Kellogg's is marked down to 3/$6 at my T. Didn't get any huge overage but got a lot of stuff we had to have for $30. Left happy. The only things I was unable to snag were C9 and any Merona tops. I might try another T today.

So... um, what is the price of the Fiber Plus/Kellogg's Special K this week?? I think I read it in deals, but can't remember...

No new word on the nephew yet, but I assume that is because everything is going as expected. Yay. It was certainly a scary time for a little while. I just read his mom's facebook update and they say it's a "MRSA" infection - Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus - basically a staph infection that is difficult to treat because it has become resistant to many antibiotics. He has to take strong antibiotics (not sure which ones) and wear a "boot" - but they will be sending him home. I guess he's been in a lot of pain - but so far all tests are showing that the infection has not gotten into the blood, lungs, heart, or bones - and THAT is the best news.

If you believe she committed fraud, trust me, you don't know the meaning of the phrase "welfare fraud".

My Creative Writing prof tried to get me interested in James Joyce. I hated James Joyce. A very weird kind of writing style. Seems to me like you'd have to be on drugs to appreciate him.

1st poem said H.G. Wells
2nd poem said Dickens
3rd said James Joyce
4th said Fennimore Cooper
5th said Stephen King - lol
oooh... 6th says Tolkien!
7th (and final for the night) says Vladimir Nabokov - and I have no clue who that is!!

I was hoping to get 2 of the same. *laugh* I guess I have borrowed styles from a zillion places. And now I am wondering why I haven't written in so long...
Didn't Nabokov write Lolita?

Oh, thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Makes me feel tons better. My little guy is definitely not the best with expressing himself. Most of the time I have to guess what he's thinking or feeling. He has never ever told me his tummy hurts, or his head hurts, or anything hurts. So its difficult to know if he's in pain or having issues like this.
But now that you explained it like that, I will be more aware and able to help him, instead of getting frustrated with both him and myself. hug
Hang in there! What I haven't gone thru w/ my 2, I've probably heard about (I moderate/own a couple of online support groups, 1 specifically for autism spectrum), so feel free to PM me w/ any questions.
I sent undies to school in a ziploc bag in the backpacks. Fresh ones on, not-so-fresh ones came home in the ziploc. I think my youngest spent most his kindergarten time in the bathroom (thank goodness it was attached to the classroom), but I told the teacher it'd be that way.LMAO
There, I got my poop talk in for the day. If only I could make it to Target today. . .

I have found that sometimes certain foods just do it better for some than others. For instance, I (and my youngest) can eat apples until they come out my ears - but my oldest would have the worst blow outs if she had a full apple or anything more than 4 oz. of apple juice in a day (and even that couldn't be every day). She's better now, but it's definitely one of her "get regular quick" foods. For me, I can eat almost any raw vegetable in mass quantity without any problems - yet give me a lot of high-fiber bread or iceburg lettuce in quanitity - ugh... For a long time I had problems with onions and garlic too - but I appear to be over that. *shrug* My youngest can also eat prunes like they are candy without any problems. Oldest DD - not such a good idea...
i don't know about now, but i started having those problems when eating supermarket apples some yrs ago. no problems w/ apple juice, processed apple products and u-pick apples from the local orchards around here. so for me i think i can't tolerate a chemical they put on the supermarket apples. so i try to go picking a couple times during the season to have a stash in my frig for a few months. didn't get to go at all last yr Frown

i also can't eat more than a few prunes, but i love them and can't stop at just one. so i just end up not eating them at all b/c i have no willpower to stop and then totally regret it after.

that's my poop story Wink
