I take a lot of pictures of our family. That's pretty much it. I have a decent camera that I've had for 4 years, and a smokin' nice lens that my dad bought me right before he died. I am taking some classes now so I can learn how to better manage some of my settings. We'll see how that goes. I subscribe to the more is always better photographic philosophy. If I take 1000 pictures of my kids, 50 of them will be good, 20 of them will be great and 1 of them just might be breathtaking.
My son took Photography for one of his summer school classes this summer and took some amazing black & white photos. He also made a camera out of a cardboard box! Super cool!! He took tons of pictures and some are good, some are really good, but there's one of a bunch of branches, no leaves (also black & white) that I'm going to have blown-up to giant-size to go over my sofa in my family room. It's THAT good! Although he informed me tonight that I had to pay him or he was going to sue me for copyright infringement. Smack

Anyone here do Canning in their spare time? (ya know, pickles, jam..etc)

I can salsa, tomato juice, and soup bases...... but, not pickles and jam. A couple years back I had a tomato crop that was insane. Four 6 foot tall Tomato plants...and 6 Roma tomato plants. No one would believe me, but I had hundreds and hundreds of tomatoes, so I canned 10 batches of salsa, and several batches of soup, and then just made dozens of jars of tomato juice to use up the others, since that seemed the quickest. (Like someone else said... it takes a long time, especially when you have to dice so many items.)

and.. I have NEVER had another crop of tomatoes like that again.

For the most part the clearance seemed to be the same but it did vary somewhat. Of course I got things others' wanted and they got things I wanted. lol

redjen, that's my problem. I have good intentions I just don't have time. A friend gave me a pressure cooker to borrow for awhile. She cans just about everything possible. She makes the best jelly from her crockpot. I really don't know what exactly I want to can other than pickles and jelly. What else is there?

Wow. I love love love tomatoes but don't have the time to care for any plants at the moment. Of course, in the very near future I might have time to do everything. That's up to Target. Smilie

I've considered salsa, just don't know how good I am at making it. Say I put in onions, tomatoe, and jalapeno's.. do I have to cook them and then can them?

Ank....ohhhhhhhhhhhhh I am so excited

for you!!! You are super-cute preggers, can't wait to see photos of baby, shouldn't be too long now!!! hug

M2C....I love your new pic too!! Makes me feel like changing mine. And reminds me that I should take some of DD soon. Do you do a lot of photography??? My brother is a pro photographer (lives a couple hrs. away from us) and I assisted him for awhile - long enough to learn to do some on my own. I think my dd's only has photos taken at a studio once or twice when there was a good deal out. Between the two of us we've taken most all of her milestone pics. Major money saver!!!!!

African American maybe??

That may well be, "my first baby alive aa" wason clerance here before and the caucasian one wasn't. I was thinking maybe it had to do with the inclusion of batteries or maybe it was a older version. Actually that makes sense to me though because we don't have a large aa pop here so they might not sell well.
Quote from dreemedayze :
That might be what the AA means. I got african american and caucasian baby alive medical dolls. They had to stay behind in SA because of space but I will be getting them tuesday and I will have to check and see if they all have AA on the box.
Yes , please when you can , now I'm curious or was t just trying to confuse us.? I really particulary like the "make me better version " Yes , I'm a sucker for dolls.

Quote from whimseys :
So, after my horror story about coupons - being watched by security, confronted at the registers, separate transactions, and flat our refusals on MQs - I've been going to a different store. Tonight I was informed there is a change and they can only accept 10 coupons per transaction! I am starting to think my Target days are over. Sadwalk
How frustrating.... I wish these stores would stop acting like franchises.Wink

That little on in the pic is adorable.

My MIL cans just about ummmmmmmmmmm everything laugh out loud

Peaches, grn beans, peas, applesauce....they also do their very own maple syrup every year. Mmmm yummy I've found that I really prefer freezing....canning seems way too precise for me - I would mess it up and end up with a bunch of spoiled stuff. And the freezer runs more efficiently when it's full....that's my way of filling up my freezer. That and right now it is full of Bagel Bites, Eggo waffles still, and a bunch of shredded cheese from grocery store dealsBig Grin

This is the recipe I make now, and very rarely deviate from it. I was going to post the link, but I see the recipe has been amended on food.com (recipezaar.com)

"Wonderful Salsa" - Canning Recipe

8 cups tomatoes, peeled, chopped and drained
2 1/2 cups onions, chopped
1 1/2 cups green peppers
1 cup jalapeno peppers, chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons pepper
1/8 cup canning salt
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup vinegar
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste

Mix all together and bring to a slow boil for 10 min.
Seal in jars and cook in hot water bath for 10 min.
The cumin in this makes it hot so when I want a milder salsa I just omit the cumin.
I boil the salsa a bit longer than 10 minutes, more like 20-30.

Everyone loves it. (I take out the seeds from the Jalapenos.) I leave them in one or two of the Jalapenos for an extra Hot batch.

Roll

I love me some maters though...

I am hoping to do some applesauce and apple butter this fall. I'd love to do some pumpkin butter - but only if I can get some cheap/free pumpkins. I am not paying what they ask in the store for them!!! Yikes.

And I am so going to garden next year. I don't care if I have to do every stinking plant in a pot and move 'em each day or get a plot that is 20 miles from home. I'm just sick of grocery store produce!

Ohh... I keep forgetting to ask.

My Kroger stores are having a P&G sale - buy 4 items, get $4.00 off your order. One of the items is the gillette body wash. It is in the ad for $2.99 sale, then $1.99 after the discount wyb 4. Would Target price match this? My grocery is out of stock, so I wouldn't mind getting it at T if they'll PM it. Anyone have experience with that?? Thanks!

We basically just freeze anything that other ppl might can. There's different methods, depends on what you are working with. Last fall my mom and I froze peaches, salsa, and applesauce. This year I've done strawberries, mangoes, salsa, tomato base, etc.

I want to grow more and more of my own stuff. It's healthier, fun, and dd loves getting involved with the whole process. Plus it's cheap!

When my mom and I did the applesauce last fall we did a crockpot recipe to bake it....it was soooooooooo good. I grew pumpkins this year - I think I will skip that one next yearlaugh out loud 2 plants are taking over my small garden and into my yard. I didn't find them hard to grow though.

Just popping in to say that I am NOT in labor yet. Frown

I also think that it is funny that when you are looking up low carb recipes that the ads on the page feature donuts...

Gonna go wake up hubby, shower, get kids ready and go to the library. Anything else I do today will be a bonus.
