What would you do if you came home from work and your bathroom looked liked this?

Mold-1
BG-2 (and counting)

Whee

Bathroom before BG:

Bathroom after BG: EEK!

Tomorrow I break out the hazmat suit and real mask and the rest of the walls are coming down.

I would think..Wow, talk about having a blowout in the bathroom

I bet in a small way, tearing down those walls was fun. Well at least using the sledge hammer the first few swings. Smilie
I didn't need a sledge hammer, it came down pretty easy by hand....it was gross, and still have to get the rest down.Frown

Will you be able to check under the tub for mold? If that wall has been wet for a while there could be mold could be under the tub too.

I bet that's one of those big heavy cast iron tubs from the 30's or 40's. I would keep that sucker and have it re-enameled in a different color.
Yea old cast iron enameled, can't get those anymore. I haven't opened the dummy wall behind the pipes yet to see what is under the tub...I am nervous to even see it..Frown

It seems to be on the sheetrock..they didn't use the right stuff back then...so it's sheetrock, the concrete coating, and then a thin layer of plaster....it seems the mold is between the concrete and the sheetrock...but who knows until I open it all up...just sucks.

All the Cheetos should soak up the moisture, so mold won't be a problem.
I quit Cheetos..Doh

Well, hopefully the water didn't get that far and underneath the tub is fine. That's what it sounds like after reading your reply.

As for the FTFY, at least you're doing the work and adding value to your house. We bought ours two years ago with the intention of painting the inside, replacing the skylights and windows and putting in a new kitchen. In two years, we have done zip. Embarrassment

Yea I hope, luckily we're on a slab foundation...so no basement to worry about.

I told my fiance at least we're saving money doing it ourselves and we were planning on renovating it anyways. I guess it just gets done sooner. And the beams look ok, no rot..but we'll see how bad the rest is.

We bought it knowing we'd need to do some updating, so we have the money saved for emergencies...I guess this is one.

Plus we aren't 100% living here. We haven't even moved 10% our stuff yet, still ripping up the rugs and need to paint. Sleeping on an Aerobed and bringing clothes over in bags and stuff..laugh out loud

Yay. I've been hoping you'd post some pictures since you mentioned all this over in jenni's thread.

If it makes you feel any better my mental images totally eclipsed your actual ones!

Wow. When you finish with your house, would you come help me with mine? There's some olive green shag carpet just begging to be ripped up and the paint colors in all the rooms are just horrible. I need some motivation, aka: a swift kick in the butt. laugh out loud

I'm allergic too I think ( I have bad allergies anyways), I have an inhaler here I keep having to use...we're going to Home Depot tonight to get some of those throw away hazmat type suits and better masks for mold removal before I rip down the rest of the walls. I saw the mold today and that side is worse then the wall I already took down, so I don't want to fark around anymore. Scary stuff..Frown

The whole house is PINK carpet...except 3 of the bedrooms, 2 are Orange and 1 is Green...so far the Green and 1 Orange is gone..that was pretty old, one the padding was stuck to the floor and turned to powder...the other had another rug under it (pink of course) and that rug I could rip with my hands...Unreal..OMGOMG

Oh and the Master bath?? well we won't even discuss that color...blue with velvet blue stripes..Facepalm

The plus side is, I'm getting a kick ass workout...who needs a gym..Strong

Ooooh, that would go so well with my olive green shag. If I pay pal you shipping can you send it to me? I could cut them up into big squares and do a patchwork shag rug. Whee

You probably know this but once you have the mold out, spray all interior wall surfaces that are staying (beams, sheetrock inside the wall, etc.) with a mixture of water and bleach. It will kill any mold spores that were stirred up during your demo.

I'll send it for free...smells a little musty though.Sick

Yea, I've been spraying the beams down as I go along...nothing else is staying all the sheetrock and stuff has to come down....but I "quarantine" the room when I'm done for the day with duct tape so no one goes in there. I also keep the window in there open all day and night.

I figure I didn't like the pink anyways, but the mold sucks. It will get done, and I get to break shit in the process...so that's cool..Dontknow

So how'd you find out there was mold? Could you see it or did you have to have a test done on it?
