For Women Only..What's the largest age difference to get married?

2,091 502 October 13, 2010 at 04:52 AM in Chat
I am a man.....I have a girl that is interested in marrying me....I feel uncomfortable with our age difference and feel she is too young, but need other opinions because I am no expert in marriage, having never done it before.

I just want to get different opinions on what the women on this board feel is a reasonable (to them) age difference...Please post your opinion, no matter what that is. I am asking women only because I feel they are more in tune with this and have a better perspective...

Thanks in advance.

I was 25 when I met my future husband. He was 11 years older then me. It's funny because I thought he was younger then his actual age and he thought I was older. We both felt awkward when we found out the age difference. We didn't let the age difference change anything. It was just weird when we discovered it about 3 weeks after we had first met.

Our son was only 6 years old when he passed away. But I think we would still be together if he were alive.

At my ripe old age now, 11 year age difference is nothing.

If you're concerned with age when considering getting married, it doesn't sound like you're too terribly in love.
That.

And that.

I was 20 and engaged to a guy who was 35. WONDERFUL guy. We're still friends. I didn't marry him though because he had one divorce and two kids. I wasn't ready to be a step-mother. We were together 2 years and I asked for alot of opinions on the age thing FROM FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS. But not once did it ever occur to me to ask total strangers what they thought .... especially not on the internet. Nono

I will answer this for all of the Lounge women. It depends on the size of the guys wallet. The higher the income, the higher the age. Low income, low age. It's as simple as that.

I will marry someone at least 4 years younger than me. I think I can handle 10 years age difference.

You can't find a wallet bigger than female's handbag.

I will tell you this...She is 24 and wants to start a family....So based on that just give me your idea of how much older YOU think is reasonable in your mind...There is no right answer...Just looking for individual opinions.
Individual opinions don't matter. What you and she feel for each other, how mature each of you are and common ground is what matters.

DH is 10.5 years younger than I am. When we met, he was 29 and I was two weeks away from turning 40. I thought the age difference was too great and expected to just be friends. However I quickly realized just how mature he was for a 29 year old. That would not have been enough though to start dating. We also had a lot in common as far as interests, likes, dislikes, philosophy, etc. Only then did we start dating as opposed to hanging out as friends.

If you don't have that with this girl, then the marriage would be likely to fail. Too many people marry based solely on hormones and that hormone thing wanes with time. If you don't have anything else in common, it then makes staying together as a married couple very hard.

I agree on the money issue. like. I wouldn't date a broke 50 yr old. hed have to make 6 figures min.
now if I was 24 laugh out loud ud better be making 500K minimum at 50. ok. 300. but u better be away on bussiness ALOT.
I'd say at 24 u could be 37 max. 40 if ur doing ok. 45 if ur rich. anything more and its gold diggin.

It all depends on maturity levels.
