Sure, I think parenting is key. However, I don't think it belies the fact that harsher punishments need to be in place for those that bully other kids. The times have changed. Simple parent-teacher conferences don't work anymore. And surely, if parents understand that their kids (who bully other kids) could not only face school punishment but also legal consequences, it would definitely help to push parents to be stricter with their kids.

For example, let's say there were no laws that punish kids for vandalism or shoplifting. I'm sure parents wouldn't make a big deal about it if their kids were caught vandalizing or shoplifting. Because currently, if they are found guilty of either offenses, the kid (and ultimately, the parents) would face fines and court costs.

Parenting is important. Sorry to say this, but there are really bad parents out there who just don't give a crap.
I guess you're right. The school administrators should have done more to control the bullies. Personally I think they should have been suspended, every single one. Do we really need laws and lawsuits to accomplish that? Shouldn't schools be capable of disciplining their students by themselves? It doesn't take an act of Congress to know that a student harassing another student should be disciplined and their parents notified and asked to take appropriate action?

Actually you can blame faux-freedom America society for this stuff..

I am guessing most people here never even venture farther then their backyard.... Half of the real CIVILIZED unpuratanical actual freedom loving country, women's breast are the norm.. You see tits everywhere, magazine, billboards, tv, media...ect etc.. The nude beach almost all teens are topless...

But in America oh freaking no.... child porn child porn child porn, when a girl showing her tits is anything but that.... Its uptight America thats to blame... If tits were just that, no one would blink another eye at it... It'll be just the norm... But leave it to fake freedom thumping America to be behind on the rest of the world
And in what countries do you see 13 year old boobs posted on billboards, TVs, etc? shake head

Secret Most countries have child pornography laws.

Nudity and pornography are not the same thing.

Did I say they were? Or was I addressing two different aspects of his post?

Sure, I think the schools should get involved too. That is, immediate suspension and possible expulsion for repeat cases. I wouldn't play around with this crap. But, I also think that charges should be brought against the offending kid if it was egregious.

I guess it just makes me angry that parents are so tuned out of their children's lives that such actions are even necessary. Why are so many children growing up to be morally suspect these days?

Or digital cameras!
Or 35mm cameras!
Or polariod cameras!

Make underage relationships illegal!
Make scarves illegal!
Make breasts illegal!

Anymore illogical ideas?

They are teens, they will find a way around it. Webcams, scanning photos in... and what about the little jerk that forwarded the picture in question?
Well, those things certainly make taking and distributing the pictures a bit more difficult, so while I'm sure it would still happen, it wouldn't be as prevalent as it is with a cell phone camera. I wouldn't care to give a teenager a webcam without proper supervision, either.

Ehh, I just think webcams and cell phones make it really easy to do things without thinking them through. Using a camera, uploading a picture, sending it, etc takes a lot of time for the kid to think things through. IDK. That's just my opinion.

Again, all it would take is for the PARENTS of the bullies and the schools where they go to stand up to these punks and stop the bully-friendly environment that thrives in our schools. We are in a super good school and one of my dear friends told me that days after she signed up to help on a committee to promote our school's "No Place for Hate" status that she found our her own kid is being bullied. It's everywhere, and it takes parents who are tuned in to their kids to stop it.
