Try not to feel bad about moving back in with your parents. Look at it this way...gives you a little more time to spend with them. As kids we can't wait to get out of their house, as adults we can appreciate their house.

As far as Christmas goes...I just lost my mom (June 17th) of this year. My dad died when I was 16. I won't have my parents this Christmas. It will be hard. I won't be thinking or remmbering what I ever gave them for Christmas. I will be remembering the memories of things said and done. Maybe you can make some hot cocoa, put into a thermos and take them out for a ride to look at Christmas lights. Together as a group, I am sure we can help you come up with something special to share with your parents.

My coke rewards...in case you are wondering..I do have an account...just sayin'

Bless you bunnies. You are a sweetie. hug

Quick little post to give ya' a new recipe we did for a side at lunch:

2 sweet potatoes - grated
1 granny smith apple, finely chopped
2 tbsp cinamon
1 tbsp sugar (I prefer brown)

1tbsp butter

Toss the apple and sweet potatoes in the cinamon & sugar. Heat the butter in the skillet until melted. Fry it all up like you would hash browns and serve.

Yum. Oh, and pretty darn cheap with the produce q's.

Oh yeah - do you think the produce q's that expired yesterday will beep expired? I know there's new ones, but I hate to waste paper since I already printed some. Frown
Hey Maam...just noticed in your siggy that you are looking for the toy coupons. Which ones...I have a ton bounce

beautiful day here today. The ex is getting married this afternoon, so the kids are off with them and I have a minute to myself. Been so long to have a Sunday without anyone over I don't quite know what to do with myself.

So....I went to Lowe's to buy a new toilet to replace the one I broke this week when I fell on it LMAO I wish fixing my back and neck was as easy as buying a new one.

Going to Lowes is depressing. I see so much I want to do and then I get overwhelmed and have to tell myself 'one project at a time'. Today, it's the broken toilet. That's about as much shopping as I'm gonna do today. Maybe I'll take a nap.

Mot2, hope you aren't coming down with the flu hug

All my pans are stainless too. And they aren't the $1,000+ pans either. My pressure cooker is now even stainless steel. Best cooking thing I ever did was learn to use a pressure cooker.

*snip*
Mine were not expensive either; I got this [amazon.com] set on Amazon for I think $219.xx...price fluctuates on them frequently. I went off of a lot of reviews I read online from ppl saying they had both these and expensive All-Clad and that they worked the same if not better so I said why not. Love 'em.

yeppers, ditto. got stainless and also some hard-anodized aluminum. i was skeptical of getting aluminum to cook food in, cos again i have reservations about that. but because it is hard anodized, it doesn't leach into food. and i use those for more non-stick applications... *snip*
Gotta be careful with the hard-anodized though.....when I was looking into new cookware I thought maybe that was my answer. Turns out that a large percentage of hard-anodized sets have nonstick/teflon coating too but that it is kind of hard to tell from item descriptions, etc. so I was like hmmmmmm better be safe than sorry Dontknow It took me foreeeever to figure out which pans I wanted.

hug You guys are doing good with the dieting and excersing, it motivates me. I did pretty good with eating until having a few sweets last night at a Halloween party. But I have sucked with physical activities, been trying to catch up on laundry and cleaning so I haven't gotten my walks, eliptical, or weights in. Frown

Yes for sure hug So sad about your parents. I am dreading the day when mine are no longer around. They have some fairly serious health problems we are dealing with.

We're an emotional family (very huggy), but not good at shourlhasbeenblockeds through sentimental stuff (if that makes sense). We've always shown affection through "stuff".

I guess I just feel bad that I'm having to move back in with them now (yeah, I'll admit it. I'm moving back in with my parents). I feel like a f up, they feel like failures...we're a mess (but at least we'll all be a mess together!) My couponing right now serves the sole purpose of providing necessities and if I could manage a luxury in there, great. I guess that was my reasoning, but I don't know. But perhaps you're right- the Keurig would be one more thing to have around. Maybe by the holidays, things will turn around.

Thanks all for kind words. Sorry if I've been a bummer lately.
totally understand the not sentimental stuff, love through stuff thing... but it is the laughs and the hugs you remember. the sweaters and ties and gadgets all go out of style after a while.
maybe if you get a present like a plant or some flowering bulbs? it doesn't take money to keep up in the future. and is a constant reminder of a happy memory. i once got mum bulbs for paperwhite lilies. got some rocks and a glass bowl. all together it cost a few bucks, but she had it on her desk and loved watching it bloom for weeks. it was like a constant hug.
my sister once went to trader joes and T and elsewhere and got foods that my parents love and made a basket of healthy foods. that was her gift. everytime they had something from it, it was a reminder of her.
or maybe cook them a meal every sunday in december as a present? it will be a time to share something together as a family minus all the stresses.
i love bunnies' hot chocolate idea.

and don't feel like a failure for moving in with your parents. across majority of the world, people live with their parents/parents live with their kids. once a family, always a family. plus in this economy, lots of people are moving in with family to conserve on expenses. AND, moreover, as bunnies said, the time we have with our parents is precious and limited. enjoy it. they are your friends like no one else. the people you can fight with, scream at, mope with, laugh with, confide in - no matter what hills you climb, they'll be there with you if not throughout, eventually. no matter how mad they get, they will still be there for you.

bunnies, hug hug hug

I want a cigarette. Kind of really bad. I haven't had one in 3 or 4 years. Can't remember which year it was I quit but it was the first week of October. And all of a sudden right now I want one. Huh.
no, no, no. don't do it! besides ruining your lungs and causing many a health issue, cigs cause you to gain weight - you've worked so hard to kick the habit and worked so hard to lose weight. don't let those blasted things get you!

i have a cuisinart stainless set, too. chef's classic i think it is called. they're great!
hard anodized has teflon? EEK!
mine are cuisinart hard anodized and had no mention of teflon. said it was just hard-anodized aluminum and showed a cross-section diagram with what each layer has. no teflon. i hate it when companies try to sneak in these nasty plastic products into our household products.

can't believe teflon hasn't yet been banned given the major health risks. i have noticed though that none of the more reputable cookware makers sell teflon pans anymore and in most stores, teflon pans are being phased out, or relegated to the lower end. at T for example, a whole bunch of teflon pans and sets are on clearance.

I just bought these [target.com] pans and 3 Mohawk rugs yesterday Big Grin They were clearanced to $50 & I had already thrown away my non-stick ones I bought 2 years ago.

Work kicked my ass tonight and I only worked 5 hours. However, I went to kohl's around 9 and had to buy new work clothes while there because I was almost late. Didn't have time to run home and change. Whew. So about 8 hours of Kohl's and 5 hours of work and I am totally beat.

Saw more coupon users tonight than I did the last 2 times I worked. Kinda nice to see it. That damn b3g3 free renuzit coupon is a PITA. It says INF and when I K1 it takes off 0.00. SO.. I just manually entered it for the max value on the coupon with was 8.98. Evil

That's what I was trained to do......
Woo hoo!

Ok I'm tired and can't remember did u have rthe blue fiberglass tub or the cast iron tub? either way its around $200 to refinish any standard size tub(of course the price can very) , now if you have a fiberglass enclosure with walls then that can be more like $400, or more. You wanna find somebody who had experience, and a warranty.
Cast iron - can't we just replace the surround rather than refinish? The surround is crappy, too and fiberglass.

Yours may be OK if you knew what the breakdown of the layers was when you bought it and everything. There are *some* that do not have Teflon; I think there is just a misconception that if it's hard-anodized it does not have a Teflon coating....I know that's what I thought too. If your pans are super-nonstick I would probably be more concerned that they did indeed have a Teflon layer. I also read that the anodized layer can wear off over time and expose the aluminum....and at that point I wasn't completely unsold but I figured if I got SS they might not look pretty forever but I wouldn't have to worry about anything wearing off laugh out loud

I was soooo worried about food sticking to my stainless steel but it really doesn't all that much. I have done eggs in the skillets....I found those easier than doing something like french toast or grilled cheese. A little bit of sticking but not much. Isn't like it doesn't clean off. Now if I could just remember to NOT put a hot, hot pan or worse yet pan *with* a bit of hot, hot oil in it directly under running water in the sink! Facepalm

Note to self: let it cool off first........

Not going to try and catch up. Congrats to all those who lost weight.
Hope those who are sick feel better and Comfort on missing parents.

My son has been sick for the first time. We're having a hard time keeping him happy. He's very cranky even though he stopped throwing up.
Hoping to get to Target today.

Don't feel bad for moving back with your folks, dh and I have always lived co-op with family in cali it was us and dd and his brother and his family. Now here in vegas we are back living with mil, and another brother and there significant others.

It is because we all live together that we are able to share expenses equally instead of living separately where we would be barely scraping by. We all contribute to expenses and grocerys etc (and I keep the house stocked)

hug my point was that its ok to need help from family, and there's no reason to feel like a f***up, its better to realize you will need help before its too late.

I forgot to mention I did horrible on weight loss - basically gained back my 3 pounds I lost last week, so I'm bummed but I realize ita my own fault! I cheated off and all week, eating at olive garden and then all the filipino food yesterday and I caved and had cake. Why does cheating have to taste so good Crying I defiantly feel guilty, I'm determined to do better this week!

Ugh, fighting a cough here, feel like its settling in my chest. Stayed home from church tonight to rest. Think I'll curl up on the couch and watch TV.

Went and saw a movie at the theaters on Saturday for the first time in ages!! Thanks to a Regal gc from RA (Big Grin), I didn't pay a dime! Saw Like Dandelion Dust. Definitely see it if its playing near you. Such a sweet, sad story. I'm not a cry-er, really, but definitely got teary-eyed watching this. My sister, on the other hand, was boo-hooing the whole time. laugh out loud

Living with family is most definitely NOT a sign of being a screw-up. Just means you're being smart. Three of my sisters live together, and with their combined incomes, they are able to afford a modest home. They all contribute to the household expenses, share grocery costs, etc. And the older two are nearing 40, while the youngest one is just now 21.

OK, going to go veg on the couch and sip some peppermint tea. Any other remedies for a cough?
