Macy's is running a background check on my 6 year old child, is that legal?

So this past christmas my 6 year old was hurt at macy's when a display shelf came crashing down.

Today is the 1st time they contacted me.

The wanted to know about a car accident we had 3 months ago.

How the hell do they know my 6 year old was in a car accident unless they ran a background check.

Any ideas?

And no trolls, I'm not looking for legal advice, I'm looking for the database that Macy's used to check on my child.

If the kid fell down and looked like they hurt themselves, then yes they would or should report the incident. This protects them in case any legal actions are taken. This is a standard practice.

The manager/employees are also required to ask "would you like to supersize that?" or "Do you want fries with that?". Doesn't mean I have to do it -- aka doesn't mean I have to give my information. Why waste my time and have my name/info put in some database?

People still give their information. In case they are more severally hurt then they thought. I have seen people refuse but a lot more give their information then not.
