Good Morning Dear Friends.......Happy Cold Saturday, its below (-4) freezing but it is not -21 like in the midwest. But then again how cold is cold? Hope you are all doing fine today. When we get up enough stamina, Candy and I are going shopping to spend her Christmas gift cards on some new clothes for work for her. She also needs a new battery for her laptop. Can't believe how expensive they are. Well rise and shine.....
Hope you found some great stuff!

Sorry I've been so MIA - I have been offline in more ways than one laugh out loud Babies seem to suck up so much time, the days are flying by. She is colicky so I think that adds a lot to the itinerary (and fun for the whole family : wootSmilie. LOL

I've been reading just no time to respond - I finally got caught up on the new thread this morning - but wanted you all to know I'm thinking of you and miss you very much!
You just take care of yourself and your little ones. Hang in there. hug

I'm not the most granola girl on the block either. I use disposables...my son is circumcised....and my kids are vaccinated. We did a delayed schedule with DS but he's caught up now and so are the girls. They all slept with me for a time but that was for varying reasons - never the "family bed" reason : lol: All that said, I have fought like hell for natural births and breast-fed babies and wouldn't you know it that after the first two, the last two wouldn't come out without a c/s and have been barely bf'd. : O Of course, nothing ever turns out like I planned so this is not a surprise exactly but it's funny how it works so easily for some people and they think it is that way for everyone.
Iagree

I have a question for you young moms. I've been hearing all over the news that they are no longer making drop side cribs. Were a lot of babies being injured by them? I have not heard of any injuries although I'm sure in all the years they were made there might have been some somewhere. I don't know how short people (such as myself or my girls) will do getting babies that aren't standing or pulling themselves up out of the crib without partially climbing into it to get them when you put the mattress on the lowest level. I'm only 5 ft tall (so is Sara and Lauren). I always dropped the mattress down when the babies would start rolling or start to sit up fearing that one day they would pull themselves up and fall out. I guess short people leave the mattress high now? I was so surprised that they were making a big deal out of taking drop side ones off the market when they have been around forever without a problem. John was so rough with our crib when he would wake up. He loved to jump and would hold on to the side and just jump and jump and I would hear the crib slamming into the wall and I would worry about the side giving way but it never did. I thought they were pretty safe. Oh well...things change I guess.
I imagine there were just a few injuries and daths. Now, don't get me wrong, I think it is tragic when someone dies but People die going down stairs, do we take all stairs out? Babies fall out of strollers when not strapped in, do we get rid of strollers? There are so many things that injure and kill but I don't htink we need to get rid of everything. I may be wrong about the cribs and may be there is a very good reason but I don't see it.

I know what you mean. There was a Moms group I tried to meet with when mine were just over a year old. Most moms had their little babies in with them (which I think is totally fine), but there was childcare available. It was only 90 min. When they get to the distracting age (babbling loud, throwing stuff off the tables, etc) I was just ready for them to put their kids in the childcare class! These were moms that had older kids in the childcare class. I was there to hear the speaker and chat with other moms - and take a BREAK from my three and not take care of other people's kids.

I know, I sound MEAN. Sorry. I know I am safe here. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE kids and I love babies. I'm not talking about putting your 1 week old in there, but your 2 year old.

They also tried to tell me I could have BF longer if I had tried (I pumped for 2 months, and they never latched because they were preemies and I had never done it before to be able to push through it).

They also told me it would be better to use cloth diapers. That the cost up front was worth it. Well, we were living on student loans while DH was getting his PhD and NO income... so HOW CAN I AFFORD THE COST UP FRONT??? Thankfully I stocked up on the WAGs double dipping deal (twice) and from about 18 months until they were potty trained, that is all we had to use!!!

Sorry, it was a bit of a sore subject for me since I felt I was being judged. I think we all have been there ; )
Our Mops group had a rule. I think it was 9 months with the mom but might have been less. They said that it was a break for the moms so that was what the rule was. It made sense to me.

Dawn-I seem to remember you doing sign language dvds for kiddos...wondering your thoughts on something...my daughter is likely to babysit for a 9 year old girl this summer who will eventually be deaf. She only has partial hearing right now, but her parents have not started working with her or getting prepared for this in any way...that is a whole nother issue! I am sure that my daughter would love to help her learn as well as herself learning sign. This little girl looks up to my DD and I think it could be successful and fun with the right program. What are your thoughts...would DVDs like yours be a good introduction for them or is there a program that you would recomend?
Your daughter is so wonderful. You have done a great job with her. Pat yourself on the back and give her a "I'm proud of you" hug from me. hug

There are a whole bunch of new TQs on the site. Anyone know if there is anything really big or FREE going on. I am hoping to get there sometime while DH is gone next week. Hey, just remembered that Doone and I met Zmmorgan a year ago! That was so much fun.

Kootz - So sorry you're feeling so miserable. There's not much worse than a stomach flu. I hope you guys are on the mend soon.

Knott - That's wonderful about your daughter. What a great way for this little girl to view it as "fun" rather than school or punishment.

Rach - So sorry to hear about your collicy little one. I can not even imagine. When ours would cry for any long amount of time, I would go insane, I never knew how parents who deal with it all day every day survive.

Coach - I'm working on your box of stuff. I went through 2 tubs and already have a LOT of pink stuff to send you. I still have 3 more tubs to go through. Big Grin Now to find a cheap way to ship it.

If anyone happens to come across cute boy decor or blankets that would match the crib set I linked yesterday, I'd love to know where you saw it. I'm looking for a crib dust ruffle, soft blankets, and wall decor in chocolate, navy, red, green, etc.

Congrats to all the happy people with the football games today. I can't say that I payed much attention since the hawks are out.

Miss you guys. I'm gearing up for the last week of the semester (exams, field trip, grading, report cards, planning new classes, etc.) Sheesh! Going to be a crazy week.

Still feeling real awful. This is just nuts.

Spent the day yesterday on the couch watching TV and napping.
I kept down Diet Sierra Mist and saltines

Made some macaroni and ate with a little beef broth around 6p.
Went to bed at 9 and just like the night before I was awoken at 3a making love to the toilet.Confused

What the heck is going on? Throwing up for me is never easy especially when there is hardly anything in my stomach.

Trying to eat a little plain oatmeal to see if that stays in...
Sorry you have a bug Frown

Congrats snow. Though in the back of my mind I really hope the mainstream media and public grab ahold of the statements made by the victim and they just tear Roth up. Sure he has been a good guy recently, but it doesn't seem as though he has paid for his due.

And this isn't entirely because he is a Steeler. I felt much the same way about OJ Simpson, though overtime I softened on OJ.

I think a white bed would work fine for a boys room. Especially the one in the link.

I thought they were pretty safe. Oh well...things change I guess.
For our first baby we bought an extremely expensive $600 cherry crib (we were both working, and spent money on stupid things, we were so excited for our baby!) I did a ton of research on everything, and for some reason thought a drop-side crib sounded easiest to use from all of the reviews I read. What I didn't take into account was that dh and I are both super tall, so we could both easily reach into the crib and get baby out. Through both of our boys, we have never dropped the crib, ever. The one time we had someone over who tried to drop the side to get Danny out, it took us like 10 minutes to push it in and try to drop it, it was so difficult to do. I don't know if maybe other cribs dropped alot easier and babies became caught, but there is no way a baby would ever have enough strength to drop our crib. It took 3 people to do it, and even then it was tough!

So now due to a new law that makes it illegal to sell or re-sell drop-side cribs, I can't ever sell my crib on Craigslist or at a consignment sale. So we now have a $600 crib that is worthless. But if babies have died from these cribs, I'll take the hit.
