Happy Monday morning, everyone! Wave

Hubby is taking his CCNA cert today. He is convinced he will not pass. He has studied like crazy, but he's convinced the sheer volume of knowledge needed to pass will be his undoing. I think he'll pass, maybe not with flying colors, but as long as he's one percentage point above the fail line, that's all it takes!! laugh out loud

His boss has talked with him at length, and basically there's no pressure on him, like they won't give up on him if he doesn't pass it on the first try. They just want to see him actively pursuing it. And his boss also told him that the money is just sitting there waiting for him. Now if that's not a motivator, I don't know what is!!

Update on my grandma - she is doing as well as can be expected in such a situation. She wakes up every morning asking where grandpa is, and yesterday was the first morning she did not cry when told he was gone. So I guess that's progress. My aunt is working very hard to be there for her, but also to help her meet other ladies at the place she's at, so she can maybe make friends.

The memorial service is in two weeks. Sounds like the whole family is going to be there, which is nice.

OK, next one on the K-cup train, the box will *finally* get out today. So sorry for the delay!!!

See, I told you I see colors others dont. My house in no way looks like a magazine. It's horrible. The only rooms that look decent are the ones I show you, the rest look like a cyclone came through. Really. One room is nothing but totes and target bags, the other room is nothing but a bed and my room, well...it's a disaster and it's next on the list of things to do.
Truly looks like the ones appear in magazines, I try to manage the main floor all time, but dont worry about the rest..

hug I am doing fine. Busy as heck but fine. Ellie is just wonderful. Gosh, I am totally smitten with her. She smells all wonderful like a baby and she's so cuddly. She LOVES to be sang to. If she gets a little fussy, I start singing and those eyes just close. I could go on for hours about how wonderful she is laugh out loud but I'll spare you the boringness of it...

Ema is doing good. She's still waiting to see the endocrinologist and she starts work this week, against my advice (but then she DIDN"T ask for my advice Roll) anyway, I'd love to see her stay home and take care of Ellie at least for a while longer...

Oh, not at all boring.. very enchanting to hear that, and she sounds wonderful Smilie enjoy the little one, they seem to be growing up in faster pace Frown
very glad to here about Ema too, praying her appointments go great for her...

We had wanted to stay over night but we are have problems with the renter we sublet the basement apartment to so we will have to evict him in the morning. Talk about people who take advantage! Mad I have been so kind for so long and helped them out so much with giving them tuns of food and lots of stockpile swag. It is times for the gravy train to end no more! He can't keep a job and has been only paying a little bit of rent here and there and is now as of feb 1 3k behind on rent! Plus we have found out the guy goes to the methadone clinic every moring and has issues that way, no wonder he can't keep a job and his wife left. Did I mention I HATE renting? We have had some doosies and mostly because DH won't listen to me when I say NO NOT THOSE PEOPLE!!!! He always wants to help people out.
Hope you get great tentent in future and very sorry to hear about them taking advantage, your tenent didn't realise what a good owner they have got...

Microwave is bothering factor for me too, but couldn't control its usuage Frown, may be if i throw it out, then i might be forced to live without one, but mine is mounted one.. Interesting link it is...may be one day, for now i will try to go slow on it

Sonic Ice People: I read online that Sonic sells bags of ice for a buck. One place said they were 8#.
Big Grin i was excited LOL
People are going aha over the sonic ice, got to google..

Quote from getgreen09 :
nikayla... thanks for the great microwave link! maybe it will help convince the tribe so stop nuking food. you are so right in not using a microwave, i think. i personally don't use it or at least very, very rarely like maybe once every 2-3 months or something and then too hesitantly. but i got a lot of family flak for saying don't microwave food etc. so now i've adopted a live and let live approach - i cook everything on the stove, or oven, using stainless steel pans and wooden spoons - no plastic, no teflon, no aluminum. oven gets AL trays with parchment paper on them since stainless steel bakeware is hard to find. i don't eat frozen dinners, and don't freeze freshly made food, and i gave up eating most TJ's items because of pesticide, hormone, additive concerns, plus the plastic trays and the nuking.

kay... on the tenders, i would say a few things:
1. make sure tenders are narrow pieces and on the thinner side. if you have a very chunky pc of chicken, flatten it some before using.
2. i am assuming you are not using frozen chicken, but just chilled chicken from the fridge. if you are using frozen chicken, thaw in fridge, don't microwave cos when you microwave it, it already cooks the outside some and that will make chicken tough.
3. my oven has been running hot, so what i do when cooking things often is i will put pcs in a baking dish, cover the dish with foil and cook at an oven temp 25-50 degrees less than what the recipe says. then once the chicken looks almost done, remove tent, and broil each side for a 1-1.30 min to brown. done.
essentially, what it sound like is that the recipe oven temp is too high, so the outside gets overdone, but doesn't allow for enough time for the inside to heat through and cook through. lower temp, longer time, and some tenting should fix that problem.

OV butter - love, love, love the unsalted butter.
i also tried horizon org unsalted. i find the OV unsalted is great where you want buttery flavor - sauteeing mushrooms for example. The horizon org is more neutral, no strong buttery smell or taste, so it's much nicer for baking as well as for cooking with in recipes that call for butter. i stocked up on horizon when they had a big sale at WF pre tgiving about 2 bucks for a pound it worked out to be. before that i had a bunch of ov unsalted when that was on sale. keeps a while in fridge so that helps.
Will try that tip, may be reduce the oven temp.. and your microwave usage keeps to thinking to go in your way.. lets see
Been usiing OV butter for some years now, but $4.99/lb and would be able to use $ off coupons ,so basically $4.. have to find good deals on it..
waiting for march month, so OV website resets its coupon page..
looked at the amazon page, looks like they have pretty stainless steel bakeware, never knew about them before untill GT pointed out...

Would anyone like a couple of the $3/2 DiGiorno tearpad coupons? I found some last night and would be happy to share for this week's sale. Let me know and I'll get them in the mail today.

I have one of those rooms too. The house is a 1916 four square (one of the catolog order ones) with all the original woodwork, stained glass windows, and fancy-dancy doorknobs with the cooper back plates and I need to find a skeleton key that will lock that door. I buy them on the cheap when I go to auctions but haven't found one that works yet. Seriously, one of my greatest fears is someone will open that door when visiting and see that roomEEK!EEK!EEK!! I wouldn't care if Better Homes & Gardens took a photo shoot of every other room in the house - just NOT that room!!!

Just one. She was my Dad's when he died and the rest of the siblings were gonna have her put down. She lived with me when Daddy lived with me for 4+ months after breaking his leg, so she was already familiar with the house.

Morning. I'm already running behind.

Good morning Yawn Just finished with the hot compress to my eye and about to fire up the Keurig.. My eye doesn't feel too bad, but it still looks a little puffy. Bought new eye makeup at target this weekend, definitely throwing away all of the old ones.. No eye problems in 20 years and now 2 back to back in the last 2 weeks..

Ank- I will be praying about the baby situation.. I pray she changes her mind and saves that little baby.. I have told DH many times that if I knew a person and they were thinking about abortion, I would offer to adopt the baby. Babies are such a blessing heart and I know you and your husband could give that baby a wonderful loving home.

Gator - the torani doesn't add color or creaminess... just sweet and flavor. You would still need cream, half and half, etc.. I use cream and then add whatever flavor I am feeling like for the moment. I can't do my coffee unless it is very light in color too!

Flug - hug did you decide about traveling for the memorial service? hope your DH does great on the exam!

It expensive too! I use glass cake, pie, and bread pans. I do parchment on jelly roll and cookie sheets too. Amazon has some stainless ones that aren't horrible. Restaurant supply places often have them too. I would love a glass jelly roll pan and if it had a snap on lid like my cake pan, that would be a bonus. Hey, Pyrex, are ya listening!!
On the topic of parchment paper....when I started planning for dd's cake my SIL (cake master laugh out loud) told me to line the bottom of the cake pan with parchment so it was easy to get out of the pan, etc. Could have lived w/o it but I decided I'd try. Anyway, so I asked her how much parchment paper is and she says $3.xx per box! Faint So, hunted around and found $1/1 Reynolds parchment coupons. Went to T. and lo and behold it was on TPC for $2.50, so $1.50 ac.

Is that a pretty good price or is this something you've ever found at a lower price? SIL goes through it quick, apparently they use it for a lot of stuff like you're describing.

Quote from gatorcater :
does the torani syrup lighten the color of the coffee...no matter how sweet or yummy, black coffee is a big turnoff to me..

Meesh: I think that TM4D is the person to ask for a fondant recipe.

*snip*
It doesn't lighten it but it's sugar-free so a no-calorie way to sweeten the coffee a bit (I don't like black at all either) so you don't have to use as much creamer or can just use cream or half-and-half to whiten. More like a coffeehouse drink Smilie

Marshmallow fondant recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Mars...etail.aspx

If adding color to the fondant add it in when you add the water and vanilla....and make it a tad darker than what you want your end color to be since the adding the powdered sugar will whiten it some. Use gel food coloring for the best color....not those little liquid ones. Otherwise I follow those instructions to a tee.

Which flavor of coffee-mate?

Would the clear vanilla work?

We heart asparagus here.

We make it like this a lot:
Blanch the asparagus for 2 min. Remove from pan and sauté minced garlic and butter or margarine, add asparagus and finish with bread crumbs. Sauté for 5 minutes or until al dente.

Wave Hey everyone! How's it going? It's been forever it seems!
YES! you can buy Sonic ice from Sonic. It's usually like $1.29 I am not sure how big the bag is but it's pretty good sized. We buy it all the time. It's the only ice I will use...yes that's picky!
Toots- I am soooooo glad you love the consignment pages. I heart heart them too but I have no time anymore.
It's nice to have a steady income coming in but I miss my daughter so much these days. There was a post that said if you don't have to work to keep a roof over your head or food in your families mouth you should stay home with your kids. I totally agree. I wish I could just quit. We don't NEED the money but it's nice to not have to struggle so much. I don't know what to do... Frown

hug being a mom is a tough job! It is always hard when you are torn between what you want to do and what you feel like you need to do.. I can sympathize..

I worked full time when my youngest 2 were little and it was hard but necessary.. Then with the last 2, I have only worked one or two days a week.. But, I am starting to feel like I need to work more because there are so many things we need some extra money for..
Currently, I work one 12 hour shift a week. and DH is home that day so my DD doens't stay in day care or anything, just home with daddy.. I am considering accepting a position which will require an additional 8 hours a week.. I didn't want to take it at first, but I am thinking about doing it now.. The extra money will be helpful because we need another car, and I have one teen in college/driving and will have another next year..
The only down side is that once you get used to the money coming in, it is very hard to go back to not having it in my experience..

but, I do agree.. If you don't really need the money, nothing is better than being home with your babies.. I am so blessed that with my 3 year old I was able to not work at all for 4 months, and then have worked very little since then.. My SIL has my nephew in daycare and he gets sick all the time. I have offered to watch him, but they think we are too far away and want to keep him at the school he goes too.. They will have another baby this summer, and I am sure she isn't making too much after she pays daycare for 2 kids.. I have encouraged her to consider taking some time off just to see if they can make it without her income for awhile.. But, she does love her job and I guess that is okay too.. Every person is different. I have some friends at work who told me they didn't want to be stay home moms.. they like working and being at home with their kids all day would drive them crazy! One lady actually leaves her son at daycare until closing, even though she gets off before that. Said she needs time to run errands, make calls, get on the computer before she gets him.. To each his own I suppose Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Thanks hug Feel free to use whatever ideas you see. I love decorating..always have. I always wanted to be an interior designer. My new project (after the upstairs bath) will be a headboard for the guest bedroom. I found a great place here called 'sustainable warehouse'. This woman goes in and demo's old old houses and then sells all the salvaged stuff out of them. Tons of heavy old doors and stuff. Contractors also donate new stuff so there is always something good for cheap.

Anyway, here is the headboard I want to make. I've already got my door picked out, just waiting for someone with a truck to help me get it home. 25.00 for the door and about 20 for some trim and I think it will look nice.

hug I've been home for 17 mos now. I've always had a job since I was 13 and I am 39. I am still adjusting. J and I agree that it is important for me to stay home with Spider monkey boy. Today is a day that I'd rather be working. JJ has done nothing but fuss and scream. He's starting the terrible 2s early. Sadwalk

When Mini Thrift was little I worked nights and weekends so I could stay home with her during the day and family would watch her when I was at work. She started daycare at 3 years old as I had to switch to a full time position during the day.

I do miss working and using my brain and the adult interaction. If I went back to work it would be something part time during the evenings/weekend...but that would mean my shopping time would be compromised.

I think that may have been my post when I was telling what my mother had told me. And here I am now telling my daughter not to go back to work.

hug It's a struggle in this economy I know. I hope I didn't make you feel bad with my post, it wasn't intended. I worked when mine were young. I kept 2 kids (friends kids) and it brought in extra income, but I must say it was NOT easy having mine and 2 others. Then, when they started pre-school, I cleaned houses. That way I could just work a couple of hours each day and make decent under the table money. I must say as well, that was NOT easy, or fun. When they started school full time, I went back to work outside of the home.

It would be nice if times were different and the economy were different so that parents could afford to stay home but always know this...your little one loves you and the time that you do have with her is the best time for her so don't beat yourself up hug
