Wow, good for you for liking the animals. And that's a great idea about calling the shelter up. If ya don't love animals, ya can't love yourself.

I am so sorry to hear about Wilson I was so excited for you when you told us all about his addoption. I used a flea and tick shampoo ( live in the foothills of the Cascades) and my yellow lab started loosing his hair and rubbing his back half under my kitchen table, I ran down and purchased this organic shampoo with oatmeal in it no pesticides to kill anything and used that and bathed him at least twice a week and he started getting better. I am far from a vet but am also on a tight budget too. Anything is worth a shot but poor Wilson I wish I had an answer for you. Just when you do change you must stick with it for a month or so to see if there are any changes in his sores. Change food is good, do you know what they were feeding him at the shelter? Most dog foods use CORN as a filler it is a cheap filler, so I would start with that. Find a dog food that don't have corn in it, Corn Makes for a lot of poop piles too. ha ha
Usually a feed store can recommend a good food.
Does he seem stressed? New home and all, hair will fall out quick, but take awhile to grow back so it will be hard to tell if any thing works right away. I am with you, see a new vet and see what they have to say and you let us know right away. Don't give up you will conquer this. We are all here for you and I wish I could trade you, but God put Wilson with you for a reason, because of the kindness in your heart, that is what Wilson needed. I will ask around for you here for any ideas that would be worth trying. GOOD LUCK! Put Wilson in our Prayers to get better soon.

If they only allow 5 recipes per person, then two or more people are posting with the same picture next to their names. I went down almost an entire page of new recipes and the same picture showed at the top of each one. I only voted for the new ones because I'd alerady done the FFers this morning.

Calling the shelter is worth a try. Recently at the shelter we adopted out a Puggle that ended up having a sarcoma suddenly show up. The new owners called the shelter and they sent them to the vet they use to have it removed. The shelter took care of all the expense and provided the meds needed after surgery. Same thing with a cat that was adopted. It became blocked and needed emergency surgery for a ruptured bladder. Cat is fine and shelter covered the bill.

I am fairly new at posting but have followed the Funny Farm for a while now. I am going to school to be a RVT (basically a RN for animals) and also have a German Shepherd that has an issue that sounds alot like Wilson's. Celia is allergic to fleas. One flea bite and its itch on. My vet gives her Prednisone when she first has an outbreak then all is fine. We went thru trying all sorts of things before finally getting relief with the prednisone. Maybe ask the vet.

Most importantly, I wanted to suggest for you to call the rescue place and let them know what is going on with him. The shelter here in Ohio that I volunteer at for school helps the owners that adopt an animal with the medical bills that surprisingly pop up. Most shelters and vets will work together (vets give shelters reduced or free services) and maybe they can help you out with some of the costs.

I will take all suggestions into consideration, and I'll ask tomorrow about things that could be causing this other than allergies. I'll also ask about meds such as prednisone. My neighbor also has a dog that has exactly the same problem and the vet give her the pridisone shot and she stops itching. So that is most likely what the cure is or the tem
p cure anyway. They take her in a few times a year for the shot
