Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

When you have 6 cats in a small 3BR house, territories overlap. I really DO need a larger house (of course if we got one, we'd probably have more cats...)

I build my own cat trees, cheaper and better quality. I saved that pic to my ideas folder, that would be a good one. I could probably build it for less than $100 in materials, and I don't even want to think about what it retails for.
I got it on sale for $108 about three years ago. It's held up well and the cats LOVE it. I was so afraid it would be top heavy because of course the cats prefer to sleep as high as they can get, but the base is suficient to keep it steady no matter what the beasties get up to. And they enjoy having their own little "rooms" to hide in. Putting it together was the pits because it's taller than I am, but hey, that's what ladders are for, right?

Our cats would destroy anything you have to put together - a lot of them these days use cardboard tubes for the uprights. Mine are glued and screwed together and use 4x4 posts.

It all started in CA when a neighbor had a beat up one at a yard sale for $5. The carpet was ugly green and completely shot. I stripped it, and whenever they re-carpeted an apt in our complex, I would ask for the remnants, so I was able to cover it in nice tan carpet for the cost of the staples to fasten it down. But 2 cats kept overfilling the top platform, so I copied it with 50% larger platforms and base. That one can easily fit 2 cats at once. Brought both of those to FL, they were the last things CRAMMED into the 24' moving van I rented. If we had more space, I'd build some larger ones, but we already have a carpeted tube or tree in nearly every room.

The 1.5-2' diameter tubes are fun, and people throw those away all the time. I just use carpet tape to fasten the new carpet (NO glue, don't want the outgassing). The platforms in the middle and top of those tubes often break because they are cheap pressboard, which is why they get thrown out. I just cut new plywood panels for them. I think the 2 I have cost me $10 between them for the carpet tape and staples.

wave Hello FF Family. I've been away visiting AlaskaLady's remarkable state. Been spending the last couple of days silently skimming what all has been happening at the Farm and entering too many sweeps. Only entered two each day while I was away--no time, but nice having that netbook.

Lizardo, I'm glad Wilson found his way back home the other day.

Gary and Cwhetme, I hope you get the Nestles big money prizes. You're both very deserving.

Jules, Sorry to hear about the sadness in your family. So very sad.

Congratulations to all who have won nice prizes, and I must say there were a lot of you. Hey Fuzzy, that $100 is definitely a keeper.

Dab, not sure what I think about your new avatar. Sort of sexy, but looks like he's trying to p**p.

I hope I'm able to attach a picture of a Mastodon that wanted to attack me when he saw I was trying to take his picture. Thank goodness there were two fences separating us.

sounds like you had fun

yak
thanks

I did have fun, but I always count the days until I can be home again. Strange but true.

While in Fairbanks, we went to a bar called Ivory Jacks, where we watched the Kentucky Derby. The man who established the place was from my husband's home town, Dubuque, Iowa. Small world.

Just got this in an email - may have already been around the world a time or two, but made me laughlaugh out loud

"If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling refund, you would have received $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.

That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!"

That is really funny.laugh out loudlaugh out loud

It wasn't a zoo. It was more like a big farm for these Mastodons, which were near extinction several years ago. It was just outside the city of Fairbanks.
