We loved the spicy coupon around here, salsa is a favorite. Also the Luvs, which was before I was expecting so I didn't use it to much and then the Pampers deal. HMS coupons were one of my favorites too. That was when I really stocked up on Tide and all things HMS.

I remember that one except I didn't use it for overage. I got the big quartish size jugs that were under a dollar after the coupon. I had this bright ideabulb that we could serve salsa and chips at DDs grad party. Yeeeeaaah, that was a brain dead moment. shake head

My daughter has Hyperacusis. She can hear things people with normal hearing can't. Some sounds are actually painful and others that we might find some what annoying will drive her crazy to the point she will have to leave. The crunching of chips is one of her triggers...

Anybody need some salsa? I still have several jugs.

Ooooo I remember that one too. I would kill to get it again. I was so stocked up on enchilada sauce. Yes, I use the kind in the can but not all canned enchilada sauces are equal. And since their are several HyVee peeps here, let me tell ya, do NOT buy HyVee brand it is NASTY. Tastes like a bowl of chili powder. MP is really good.

Ya know what other coupon I need again... remember the Muir Glen printable? Geez, I had so many cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes it was almost embarrassing. Well, guess what. I am out. I bought Hunt's and used them in chili and hubby noticed the difference right away. He said it tasted ok but the skins were tough. The tomatoes with chilies were Market Pantry and they were fine.

Awwwwwwwww I am so sad I missed out on all these "spicey" hot deals Teehee I found SD in March '09 because of the Old Navy Weekly promo. Looooots of late nights staying up for those q's but it paid off...ended up w/a lot of the $75/$100 q's Smilie At the time I totally did not even 'get' what SD was and somehow had accessed it as the mobile version of the site...wasn't familiar with the forum format at all really and wondered what ppl were talking about with 'avatars' and such laugh out loud Then finally figured it out, joined, found the drugstore threads and the Target threads in about Aug-Sept. of that year maybe?

For the most part I am self-taught as far as coupons go. However, my mom definitely paved the path to frugality for me. She used coupons just casually but was a big bargain-hunter so I grew up frugal....after my 1st Wags transaction I was hooked to couponing for life!

I have a tub of the Philadelphia Santa Fe cooking cream that I need to get used. I am trying to decide what to fix for supper so I thought I would check out recipes using that. Why in the heck does every recipe I find involve tomatoes? I hate tomatoes. I will eat things like spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce that don't taste tomatoey but hunks of tomatoes in stuff, oh hell no. They all seems to involve chicken too. I'm not fond of chicken but I can eat it if it's in something and DH and DD like it. Of course, they like tomatoes too.

I can't believe you have big jars of salsa just sitting there, I will trade you for some Glen Muir Fire Roasted tomatoes, I ended up getting some more on another deal at Alby's. But I am out of Salsa, I eat a tun of salsa. I figure the salsa is the healthy part so I scoop up as much as the Lime Tostido will hold. I will eat a whole jar of salsa 16oz at a time, with as few chips as possible. drool

Self taught. I don't think I ever saw my parents use a coupon. Not that we necessarily had a lot of $-- it just wasn't something they thought of to do. In 2006, there was a $1 Kelloggs TQ that allowed for free cereal cups. When I saw that you could get something for free, I was hooked. Getting free/cheap baby supplies is definitely a must for us, but couponing in general is a hobby for me. I like to think of it as shopping with a competitive edge. laugh out loud
This is the same for me. I was just telling DH that I'm not thrilled with how my recreational shopping time has been replaced with packing our house. laugh out loud

My mom couponed a little when I was much younger and then she didn't for a long time. I started back when we decided to let Cole go to school 2 mornings a week in the 2 year old class. I felt horribly guilty about paying to put him somewhere when I didn't work. I vowed to use coupons to save us at least amount of $$ we were spending on school per month. Let's just say, at this point I could probably finance his college education with what I save. Wink

I LOVED that Muir Glen coupon, free quality, organic tomato products! Funny you mention it, because I just used my last can of the Fire Roasted in chili a few weeks ago. I think I have just one or two cans of sauce left from that deal.

Oh wow, you came from the Old Navy thread? Many of those people ended up driving me nuts! I was with the thread when it began and did get many awesome coupons. I can not believe how long that promo went and how HUGE the thread became. I know SD got a lot of new members too. It was pretty easy to quickly score the big Qs until the hacks began to get them. DH still has a new pair of jeans that he has never worn that I got with one of those coupons. Did you get the one that was coded wrong, and took $100 off $100, instead of the $75 that it said? I managed one of those. Teehee

Why don't you live near me???? Too bad shipping is so dang expensive. I have a bunch of Crest Pro Health mint toothpaste that I would love to trade someone for the Cinnamon. Think of the fun we could all have if the post office had free shipping codes! laugh out loud

I have decided what I am making... sort of. I have looked at a few of the soup recipes using the Santa Fe sauce and I'm not making any of them. LMAO But I am going to do something similar. I have boneless skinless chicken thighs in the pressure cooker right now. When they are done I wills shred or chunk them and I should have a couple cups of nice chicken broth. I'll add cream and the cooking sauce and go from there.

I don't know how spicy/flavorful the sauce is. I may add a can of chili beans. I'm not crazy about beans either, but a few in the soup are fine and it will add a thing to the soup -- not just flavor but a chunk. Or I may puree a can of tomatoes (with or without chilies). We had chili dogs for supper last night (hmmm, this could be redundant, that didn't occur to me til I typed that). I have part of a can of chili with no beans in the fridge I could throw in. I have red and green peppers in the freezer but if I start tossing too much in there they aren't going to eat it.

Then I'll make corn bread to go with it.

This was posted by Kudzu in the TLC thread. I was reading the article and thought you might find it interesting too.

"Target maintains two forensics labs, including one in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Technicians pull fingerprints from coupons, packaging and other objects crooks handle but leave in stores. "

http://minnesota.publicradio.org/...urloining/

ETA: It actually gets a little creepy. ""At the company's Brooklyn Park campus and at other locations throughout the country, Target security staff remotely monitor surveillance cameras in the retailer's roughly 1,600 stores."

I wrote a letter requesting an IEE and I am sending or taking it to the special education director over the entire district. That should please them. I'm also going to see if the hospital has the records (mainly diagnosis) typed up and in medical records so I can get copies.

Tanner had a raging fit last night about 2 seconds after I posted that he was doing well. It was not fun but we did what the therapist said and IT WORKED!
Do tell - I have an 11 year old that's going to work for the circus if we can't get this relationship in check.

Quote from flugette :
I grew up with a mother who couponed. My dad was a pastor, but supplemented income (with 11 kids, he had to!) with a couple paper routes. So she always had multiple sets of inserts. She was very selective, though - she only clipped the coupons she knew she would use and our family would consume. I loved to watch her process from start to finish - planning the grocery list, going through the ads to find the sales, matching the coupons, and then going shopping. She shopped the loss leaders at the main grocery stores in town (Weis, Giant/Martins, SuperFresh) and would take about 4-5 hours every Monday to get it all done. The whole process fascinated me. She had a very limited budget, and so would figure prices out to the penny, as to what was cheaper and where. We did buy in bulk sometimes, but mostly just shopped the grocery sales.

My mom did not have a very creative menu - she had her basics that she made and didn't venture too far from those. She did have a garden and we got a lot of produce from there.

So the short answer is yes, I was taught. Big Grin Now, it is definitely out of necessity, and I am SO thankful that my mom laid such a great foundation so that when it came time for me to do my own shopping, I knew what to do. And that was a run-on sentence!! laugh out loud
YAY for the weight loss

BOO for the sick baby

And I loved your coupon story - yours and TN's both heart I hope my kids think back fondly on all the couponing cheapness I put them through and not with anger at all the time we spent doing it.

I have been cheap for so long I don't even remember not. I used to return Christmas presents and then re-buy the same thing or similar off the clearance rack and that was in HIGH SCHOOL. I started Wag's in college but I didn't get hardcore until K-Mart in 07 and then Target shortly thereafter. But, I shopped Target's endcaps and hidden clearance deals since they built me a shiny new store in 1999 (I primarily used 'my coupons dot com') - I started price matching all my groceries there plus using coupons ordered off ebay/trading threads and I remember saving a ton on stuff we were buying anyway. I feel really old just typing that. LOL

I was seriously considering making this my siggy laugh out loud It's hard to compete with scripture but this came close LMAO

GT - Inside the bricks of Philly there is a recipe for Spaghetti - I think it's Spaghetti Carbonara or something but anyway, it obviously involves cream cheese so I would think some Sante Fe cooking crap with chicken and pasta would be like a creamy Mexican dish of some kind. Top it with some Colby Jack and bake it for a while - you can eat almost anything that's covered in cheese. laugh out loud

Yeah all the pages and pages of chatter drove me nuts. I stayed with it a few months then it got too hard to follow and get the Qs, and I didn't really need anything then.

gt6 (Heidi) - laugh out loud I always want to call you Heidi! Your chicken recipe sounds like it will turn out well. I tried the Santa Fe a few weeks ago and I did like the taste of it. So far I've tried Santa Fe and the Italian Herb Cheese and liked both. I stayed away from the Garlic after someone (you?) posted about how strong it was.

For my Santa Fe, I cooked cut up chicken and added a bag of frozen veggies. Then I added the Santa Fe and just served it over some rice I had already made. It was really good, but I should have added something to thin it out, there wasn't enough sauce. You have broth so I'm sure you will have enough liquid. Let us know how it turns out. Oh, and I think it is just slightly spicy, a decent kick, but not an OMG give me a drink NOW blast of heat.
