Child going off to college...what are the essential that he needs that he might not know that he needs?
The things that you don't think about until you are there and you say, oh I wish I had this or that?

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

Stuff I sent with my sister to college:
- permanent markers
- highlighters
- pencils
- white-out
- shampoo
- conditioner
- deodorant
- razors
- shave gel
- perfume
- shower gel
- towels
- washcloths
- sheets
- comforter
- tubs to store stuff
- personal mirror
- 3M hooks to hang pictures, etc.
- single-serving snacks (pop-tarts, etc.)
- instant oatmeal packets (for those mornings they sleep through breakfast)
- instant coffee

That's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Oh, I hear you! I had her write out a list last summer so I could be shopping and spread it out. She was working 50-60 hour weeks and didn't have a car so her opportunities to shop were basically nil.

More things:
- pain meds
- cold meds
- any other otc meds he might need
- laundry detergent
- stain removal (shout wipes or Tide pen)
- air de-odorizer/sanitizer (boys will be boys...) Big Grin

how in the world did you run over your own hearing aid??? trying to picture this.....
Wink

I am shopping at a store. Walgreens to be exact. I had on both of my hearing aids the phone rings and I take one out to hear better. I have the old analog ones. Which can produce yucky feedback. So in the pocket the hearing aid goes. Get to the car. Get keys out and whatever else. Hearing aid drops out of pocket which of course I cannot hear. Drive away and later discover hearing aid battery is in pocket but no hearing aid go back to all stores that I was at..look around by the checkout lanes no hearing aid on ground. Go back to the store where I answered the phone. Hearing aid is on the ground in the parking lot. Rushed out of the car to pick it up. Found out that someone drove over it!EEK!

oh yikers!!!! Frown I meant to tell you last night that my insect bites look like that picture you posted if a yellow fly bites me. They are small and fast, and they leave that little bloody bite mark you mentioned. Also known as Deer Fly [wikipedia.org]

Everyone ones list is great! I had to go back to the store for the under bed storage containers. Those were great, Also she received a storage chest. That her tv and microwave sat on, It had all those bamboo baskets that fit underneath it. Nice little touch for the room.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

Sent the 2nd oldest niece off with towels, new laundry basket (do NOT get the cheapie kind that T sells for back to school, as this thing cuts your hands when the basket is full), rolls of quarters, laundry detergent (the Purex sheet things were handy, as not a lot of weight to lug to laundry), and dryer sheets, GC for Target, Walmart, Starbucks, local grocery store. A few melamine plates, bowls, and a few sets of silverware so they can eat something in the room. Popcorn popper that can heat water/soup, etc. IF (and only if) they are responsible, an immersion heater is great for water for hot choc/tea.

If he/she's in a dorm they will probably need XL Twin sheets. Regular twins aren't long enough. If they are computer savvy, they may need their own printer, ink/toner, paper and their own computer. Depending on the school, it may need wifi capability, as some don't have internet outlet plug ins in the rooms anymore Annoyed

Thank you! I am putting together a list and then I will go through my stock pile to see what I actually have and what we need.

I must apologize for misleading the TCCers... as of right now, there is no actual video of the fun and spritely Miss Mavis... I was lamenting the fact that I didn't have a way to make one at that time, and somehow I made it sound like there was one and I just couldn't post it...

I'm very sorry, but I will certainly rectify the situation as soon as I have some batteries charged up for the camera.

Please forgive me!!

First let me say that the swelling has gone done considerably!

However the main boo-boo is much better. Still painful and itchy but much better! Thank you for asking and thank you for having me on your couch and taking care of me. (see avi) hearthug
Glad that your bite is better. My son got real sick from yellow jacket stings when he was little. My mom put baking soda paste on them - and it took the sting out of them - but she missed one on his foot. He started throwing up later - and she found he still had a sting on his foot that they missed. It was all red and nasty. She put the baking soda paste on that one - and it cleared right up.

Since those are made with essential oils, I think you would still need to watch the amounts with the babies.

I like those Citronella wrist bands. They seem pretty effective.

Food, food, and more food.... especially snack type foods. They have plenty of those things available on campus - but they are pretty expensive there.

And gas gift cards. I think a lot of college kids don't know what a lot of things cost - because they don't pay for them themselves. But they know the cost of gas EEK!

Most students who pay for their own gas seem to think they are independent. (Sure.. my parents help some... paying for my college and stuff... but I have to buy my own gas...) LMAO

I've have been stockpiling single serve snacks. Pop-Tarts, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, peanuts. I know some of it will be junk food, but I am trying for more nutritional foods.
