Eat the dang bread! I keep my butter in the cupboard. Not all of it, just one stick at a time in the butter dish. Real butter not that fake crap.

Thanks for the stove compliments. I am making chicken in a biscuit tonight. So I shall cube and fry the chicken, assemble, then bake them in the oven. I might even steam the broccoli instead of microwaving it just so I can do more stove cooking!laugh out loud

Back from camp - had such a great time with those kids! Hot as all get out, but still so much fun. I was hoping I'd lose a few pounds since I walked everywhere and sweat buckets every day, but that didn't happen. Oh well. Guess it was the so-not-diet-friendly camp food that is to blame.

Our little ones missed out, but not too much. They love their aunts almost as much as they love us, which helped us to not worry about them too much. nod

Trying to get caught up here on deals - always such a chore when you've been gone.

Going out tonight to look for a twin bed. Hubby happened to post on fb asking if anyone knew of someone trying to sell a bed, and his dad saw it. Teehee Called him immediately and told him to never post anything like that, "our family" doesn't ask for handouts, etc. Told him if he ever needs something like that, just call him up, don't let the whole world know. Mind you, we weren't asking for handouts, or anything like that. I think it was just a generational gap of misunderstanding modern networking. laugh out loud Anyway, fil is paying for a new bed, we just have to find one we like. He mentioned ones he found on walmart.com and sears.com, but the shipping is outrageous and they don't have free ship-to-store on those items. So we're hoping to find one locally that would be at least competitive with the online sites, that way we don't have to wait on it.

So is it soliciting to ask if anyone has any advice/ideas on such things? Big Grin
Boy/ girl/ gender neutral? Value City has some cute beds that aren't super pricey but they wouldn't let me pick them up, HAD to deliver and it was about a 2 week turnaround for delivery. I was too impatient to wait that long. Ikea has some cute and inexpensive choices but it's a little more of a drive.

Definitely boy. Never thought of Value City - a new one opened up close to us, so might check that one out. That's silly about delivery, though.

So we're back from furniture shopping. The one place we saw a bed we even remotely liked, would have cost almost twice the online price, so we're definitely going to order online. Looks like Babies R Us is the most competitive pricing, and reasonable shipping. Kind of surprising to me, but I'll take it! We want a bed that has storage, and this one looks like its great for that.

And gt, that is just crazy!! I am not even really ready for school shopping, let alone Christmas shopping!!!

Jingle Bells? Big Grin I LOVE Christmas, love Christmas stuff, but I would get a little peeved about starting at Christmas stuff in a store for almost 6 months. It will get boring and turn more shoppers away. Plus, seems inappropriate in 100 degree temps.

Totally didn't know you lived out that way!!! Any info. you have to give would be awesome....I wouldn't even know where to START asking questions lol: My brother is pretty much planning the whole thing.
in the beginning when i first started targeting, i bumped into what had to be another slickdealer after the exact same deals. that's why i've been Ninja ever after.

you will be coming at a very nice time of yr. not too hot, not too cold and doesn't rain that much. hopefully fall foliage will be in full force. usually a little after columbus day b/c the city retains more heat than outside. so a very nice place to go would be central park. you can google central park fall foliage to see enhanced pictures. i've read fall is the time we get the most europeans b/c they do not have fall foliage as colorful as we do.

another place i would definitely recommend would be the empire state building at sunset. on a good day it can be very romantic actually.

let me know what you are interested in and i can give you recommendations.

i will also help you w/ transportation. the best way to get around the city quickly and efficiently is the subway, but it can be overwhelming in the beginning. and there's lots of little things that only natives would know. for instance, at subway entrances on the street, look for ones w/ green globes on posts. means that entrance is open 24/7.

this is a good primer-
http://www.gonetonewyork.com/dail...a-tourist/

taking a taxi is usually only good for short distances. too expensive to go far and may not be any faster than taking the subway. catching a taxi around 4pm is usually rather difficult b/c that is during the shift change and many are on their way home outside of manhattan so they'll only take you if it's on the way. it's almost impossible to catch a taxi when it's raining.

and be prepared to walk, walk, walk, so wear comfortable shoes and/or sneakers. new yorkers don't need to diet as much b/c they get a lot of exercise every day.

very nice. fits perfectly under the window sill as if you'd planned it. i've never seen a stove under a window. usually it's the sink.

Hi Peeps..

Tried to post here yesterday while I was at a flea markert...I bought a premium indoor spot to hide from all the heat and humidty. For a while I thought I was going to do less than the Sunday before, I was $80 behind at 2 p.m. But somehow I am not too sure how..I ended up with $3 more than the week before. Grand total was $300. Not complaining.

Love all the talk of the house buying and selling awesome awesome.

Glad to hear Trevor is doing so much better,

My suprising news is I am back at Kohler for four weeks. Yep four, But I get my health insurance on day one. Which I completed. Plus three weeks of paid vacation. Probably not look for another temp job offering until the beginiing of the year.

The best thing is umm I get a reduction now on my cobra.. After I am laid off I only have to pay 40% of the amount due. $200/ month is much much better,
now cross my fingers. all my retests...pap and come out looking good. If bad at least I can afford my insurance,

Oh Gt ...me like your stove...hope all the cooking went well this evening.

Now...I have to get ready for bed up at 5 and I won't get to bed until 11pm. This cycle will go on for a month. Yikes...but it will be so worth it This new penneys loves me..I get to work over 20 hours there and my Kohler too. Just have to remember four weeks only! And in December I get a check for three weeks of vacation.. Yes yes yes.

Thanks for the info. ST!!! I am pretty sure my brother was planning on the subway for most of our transportation. No matter what he decides I am probably gonna spend my time in shock and awe at such a big city LMAO And I figure the more we walk the more we can eat right?! Big Grin

So far I'm pretty sure we are planning on Statue of Liberty, Empire State building, and WTC stuff --- I think he said the WTC memorial or whatever is scheduled to open this September???

I really haven't looked into much, just haven't had time but I'm hoping to this week. Any must-go-to restaurants?? Best NY pizza place? Any info. I should have on "how-not-to-look-like-a-weird-tourist?!?!" Roll

new york is one of the best places to walk and eat. there are a crazy number of restaurants of all types of cuisines in all different price ranges. it doesn't have to be expensive. the latest thing are gourmet food trucks that go to different areas every day.

one of the more popular websites to research restaurants and all other info is- http://newyork.citysearch.com/gui...ew-york-ny

also good is www.nymag.com it's originally a weekly magazine of what's going on in the city.

also http://newyork.timeout.com/ i think it originally started in london and same idea as new york magazine but appeals to a younger crowd.

you may want to consider doing a double decker tour of new york city when you first come to get your bearings. originally a company brought a double decker bus from london and took the roof off so you can see 360 degrees around. they have become a ubiquitous sight in ny now. they have hop on, hop off privileges and i've heard they are informative and fun. i think gray line is the biggest tour operator-
http://www.newyorksightseeing.com...hp?cat=DDT

statue of liberty you may have to book in advance b/c you have to take a special ferry there. you may also want to include ellis island where immigrants passed thru in the early 20th century. both are run by the national park service. i think you can go up the stairs to the crown of the statue of liberty. i did it once my senior yr of college. you may want to start exercising now...

empire state building you can get in same day. i think earlier in the day there may be a long line so maybe better to go later. macy's of the macy's thanksgiving day parade is nearby.

for world trade center, this yr will be the 10th anniversary so i'm sure the memorial will be ready by 9/11. there will be a lot of people there. while you are in the area, you should go to century 21 which is across the street. 3 floors of bargain shopping. very famous among tourists to get designer clothes and bags for cheap but they also sell housewares, luggage, domestics, makeup etc. not as good as it used to be but still a go-to store and absolutely packed during lunch and after work and wknds. best to go early morning or afternoon. i think they open 8am. i always take sil in italy there to shop. she also likes to go to daffy's to get cheap (relatively) cashmere sweaters made in italy. Teehee also in the area is wall street, the new york stock exchange (can't go inside anymore), trinity church from 1696 http://www.trinitywallstreet.org/ , fraunces tavern where george washington gave his farewell address to the army http://www.yelp.com/biz/fraunces-...m-new-york , and the Fed http://www.newyorkfed.org/aboutth...iting.html . you need to book your tour at least a wk in advance so they can run a background check on you. you get to see a pile of real gold bars in the vaults on the tour.

instead of doing the circle line which is a boat tour around manhattan, you should just take the staten island ferry instead. its free and you can see the statue of liberty.

if you are interested in seeing an aircraft carrier and submarine, you can go to the intrepid museum. usually elementary school age children find it fascinating.

for pizza, all the food shows i've seen recently all showcase lombardi's. to tell you the truth, i'd never heard of it until a few yrs ago on tv.
http://newyork.citysearch.com/pro...rdi_s.html

maybe b/c i went to university in the area, john's is the one i've heard of the most-
http://newyork.citysearch.com/pro...treet.html

but those are brick-oven pizzas, not new york style pizza. i will find a good one for around times sq. bff works in the area so i will ask her.

oh, one of the in places to eat now is shake shack for burgers-
http://www.shakeshack.com/

don't worry about looking like a tourist, the place is full of tourists. the only thing that would make you seem more local is to walk very fast.

b4 i forget, also magnolia bakery. line out the door. their most popular is red velvet cupcakes.
