Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

16,570 1,265 September 22, 2011 at 06:13 AM in Sporting Goods
Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

Let us hope.. On this apriliest of fool days... that the redwings suddenly say "Oh yea, all that losing we've been doing and playing like a bad team? Jokes on you!" and beat the Panthers 40 gazillion to 0.
I would've been fine with that. Instead Florida gets a point and is one game closer to winning the SouthLeast.

You can call the Kings' style whatever you want, but it was god damn entertaining tonight at Staples Center. Richards missed a couple of easy goals. He really needs to get back intro stride... from 2011. Kopitar has gotten back into rhythm when he needed to. I'm expecting him and the rest of the top line to continue to put up points.

I can only hope that the Kings make the playoffs at this point. If there was any team I would not want to play home-and-home for the last 2 games of the season, it'd be San Jose. I hate our chances against them. I am expecting 2 OT points from the 2 games. I think San Jose will win the division. Kings 95 points. Sharks 96 points.

Quick will not win the Vezina.

Elliot is going to take the Vezina, IMO.

I dont think he will. It'll go to Luongo or Brodeur or Lundqvist because the NHL doesn't care about small market teams.

Which is bullshit. Elliot leads the league in 2/4 categories and his team is at the top of the NHL..

But he's split a lot of the season with Halak.

The NHL awards are bullshit nowadays anyway. Stamkos will probably get MVP, Lundqvist the Vezina, and Crosby will get the Masterson award.

The Norris is too hard to figure out. Probably be Lidstrom and Chara in the running for it though.

Not it chance it goes to Brodeur or Luongo.

Lundqvist or Quick.

Elliot and Halak are a tandem - don't play enough games to match the above two. In addition, with such similar stats, the suffocating team defense adds to their stats. Elliot has 36 GP. Lundqvist has 39 WINS. That means a lot.

Show some faith. Smilie The Kings have done great against the division this season. I know the Sharks are the Sharks and they seem scary, but the Kings can win them both. They aren't helpless and they aren't an incredibly inferior team. I'll be damned if the Sharks are considered great and that the Kings have no chance. We'll see what happens though. These two games are huge and everyone seems on their A-game tonight. Really good so far. 1-0 Kings right now, thanks to Martinez.

Anyway, Dallas lost to Nashville so the Kings have officially clinched a spot. I want the division, though. 7th or 8th doesn't really cut it for me and I hate the idea of playing the Canucks in the first round. THAT is a team that scares me, not the Sharks.

Edit: Right after I sent that the Sharks scored. I might have jinxed them, oops. I'll try again, to fend off the jinx gods: Oh nooo, the Sharks are terrifying and we can't win! Frown We're helpless!

Ya that was pretty shitty. Kings handled it pretty well though, but you wouldn't expect them to get too upset since the playoffs are all set.

Be nice to see Clowe get decked a time or two on Saturday though....too bad the game doesn't mean anything, would have been huge ratings for NBC.

Edit: Forgot about home ice, that is kind of a big deal, especially in the west where teams are so far apart. I am a dumb.

Yes, yes. You are a dumb. Stick Out Tongue Just kidding. But yeah, the game meant a lot and to see that shit happen... ugh. But I agree with you, I want to see Clowe get hit good at least once. And I really hope they can win the division. I'd much rather have a series against Chicago than St Louis or Vancouver. The Kings have Vancouver issues and I feel like they wouldn't stand a chance, sadly. I dunno, we'll see. I'm definitely glad we're in the playoffs again, but I'm not about to be content just seeing them make it. It would be so nice to see at least a series win. I can't wait for next week. bounce
