Official 2011-12 NHL Thread - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings!

Hockey is back! After a summer of tragedy, it's time to drop the puck!

Who's the Cup favorite? Who made the best off season moves? When will Crosby return? When will Doughty sign?

And to start off the season, Mike Modano officially retired yesterday.

He was definitely out there. He had a HUGE hit early in the 3rd OT. I remember thinking that OV was still awake.

His line needs to be broken apart though. Backstrom and Johansson are not doing anything. Johansson needs to sit - he's sucked all season.

The Caps have never won a game that has gone past 2 OTs.

I'm not upset they lost. Ok, I am, but I thought the Caps had their chances and didn't finish. The GWG was just a defensive breakdown - allowing a guy like Gaborik to walk into the slot towards the net basically unprotected is just asking for trouble.

Oh well...bring on Saturday's game.
Ah, you're right. I do remember that huge missed hit where he should have destroyed a NY d-man. Just didn't see him much offensively I guess. I was also half-awake. laugh out loud

I know he took a slash sometime in the game and was seen skating to the bench holding his wrist.

I think he's playing hurt. He just doesn't look the same and has been missing on a lot of shot attempts. Something isn't right.

Or it's entirely possible he's just not the same player he was 5 years ago. Dontknow

I think you are spot on about something being wrong physically. Last night (from what I watched) it seemed a lot of shots were rolling off his stick, and just missing on the attempts altogether. As much as I hate to admit it, I like seeing Ovechkin play well. The league needs him just as much as they need any other star.

Tonight's game is so pivotal OMG if the Kings can get another 3-0 lead in a series, they're nearly a shoe-in but if the Blues dominate tonight (I think they will), this series is ON

Quick needs to steal it like he did in game 3 against Vancouver

Kings win 4-2. I think they continue domination here tonight actually.

Funny, I was talking about this with my boss last night. Now that it's the playoffs he's suddenly into hockey. Sly I tend to agree more with Landers. I think after the two home games against Vancouver, they'll try to change something up and I expect that they'll have their shit together this time around. I dunno, I just have a good feeling about tonight's game. (Not to jinx them or anything) I'm not worried about tonight's game, other than I feel it's going to be rough and potentially dirty. My main fear is injured players.

So I think the Kings should be good tonight. Game 4 though... I already explained my worries about that one. So I dunno. I'm kind of hoping for a sweep though (obviously). The Kings have played the Blues twice in the playoffs in their history and they got swept both times, so now would be a pretty good time to return the favor.

One last thing: Having the Kings, Clippers, and Lakers in the playoffs must be a scheduling nightmare. Plus there's always concerts and other unimportant stuff going on. The ice at Staples has never been known to be terribly good, so I'm wondering if the even more constant changing of the rink and what not could be a factor. I'm not claiming to know much about the ice and all that, because I simply don't, but it seems to get brought up a lot. Any thoughts on that anyone?

Brian Hayward is such a tool. It's an absolute sin for him to be commenting on Kings games.

Wow...didn't expect the Blues to be in a 3-0 hole. Crazy.

Jersey-Philly is turning into a good series.

The Blues look like they have given up. Never would have thought they would be on the verge of being swept.

Kostitsyn and Radulov will not be playing again tonight. Predators will roll with the same lineup as game 3.
