It has nothing to do with the fact that they were protesting, or their message. It has everything to do with the fact that they were blocking a public right-of-way. They were impeding upon the rights of the students who paid their tuition to have an avenue to/from wherever they are going. They were impeding upon the rights of any disabled students that may have needed to traverse said route.

They were given a chance to disperse, and they refused. They disobeyed a lawful order from a competent authority. The other methods of dispersal would have been much more physically violent. You have the right to protest, you don't have the right to take away others' rights because you're a whiny brat.
Where is one person that was complaining that the students were not letting them through? I don't see it.
The school admins wanted to disperse the demonstration, so they called in the cops.
It doesn't get any more obvious than that.
We have people now trying to justify the cop's excessive use of force by claiming a woman sitting on the sidewalk is a heinous crime laugh out loud The whole "blocking the sidewalk" is a trumped up charge designed to justify the cops picking a fight.

And yes, the correct response would've been to just let the kids continue to protest until they got tired and left on their own.

Also, it's funny how the cop defenders also justify the abuse by claiming the students were "Brats", "dirty hippies", "lazy", etc.. I guess that entitles the government to use excessive violence?

So it takes someone to complain in order for something to be illegal? I made this point earlier in the thread, by that logic I can park in a handicapped parking spot as long as no one bitches about it.

And again, if you had read the farking thread instead of just instigating, you'd know that the crime they were committing had ZERO to do with the use of force. They were actively resisting arrest and wouldn't move peacefully so the next option was used and used effectively.

Please, if you're going to argue, at least make it intelligent..

As Landers said, where's the (hypothetical) handicapped person that was complaining when I parked in a (hypothetical) handicap spot? Why would I still get a ticket?

Are we having a state-the-obvious contest now?

No one claimed it's a heinous crime. However, it's still a crime. It still deprives others from the liberties they have a right to.

I didn't see anyone pick a fight. I saw them calmly ask the protestors to leave, the protestors resisted, and the cops brought out the OC. If the protestors had moved from the sidewalk, we wouldn't be having this discussion. If the protestors had not only thought of themselves and their own selfish desires, they would not have been sprayed.

No, you don't just let someone infringe upon others' rights because they're belligerent.

Care to point out where anyone made this claim or assertion?

Did the protestors actually prevent someone from passing through?
I didn't see any evidence that they did.
Go park your car by a red curb and tell the police officer that there is no fire, when he asks you to move. Now make sure not to move your car no matter how many times he asks.

Probably around the same points of those defending the students calling the cops fat/lazy/stupid or what have you.

Hey where's are the COPS WITH THE PEPPER SPRAY AND BATONS...look around

Lookie here:

Guess who these jokers belong to.... yup right wing anti-abortionist

And lets not forget this:

Its cool to be harassed by white protestors while going to school

Damn... where are all those cops to BEAT and BRUTALIZE these people..

I guess these law-breakers had a decent MESSAGE that didn't upset the current status quo, unlike those OWS losers.....laugh out loud

Its ALWAYS ABOUT THE MESSAGE AND STATUS QUO, upset anyone and you will get a beatdown by your gov't thugs in uniforms

Obviously supporting and defending mistreatment of those people above is wrong, but yea pepper spraying, beating and destroying OWS protestor/ing property is ok?

Do you know if they had a permit to be there? It appears (from the orange barrels and police cars), that the road was purposefully blocked off in advance. But I'm sure that doesn't matter to someone not interested in facts.

Nope. I'm not white at all.

The tea party and OWS movements are about first world problems that mainly affect white people that live above the poverty line. None of these movements care about the many problems that poor people and minorities face.

What white people problems are addressed by the OWS and Tea Party groups?

In the case of the OWS I believe it would be lack of soap and toilet paper.

Well that is a serious problem, and I for one am glad to hear OWS is addressing it...

Taxes, student loans, tuition fees, corporate greed, money in politics and many other things... shit that poor people have no control over and cannot change.

Most of the talk is about the middle class and not the people who live paycheck to paycheck and don't have an education and cannot afford a single year of college for their children.
