RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

**There have been differing reports of directions received from cs reps. Suggest if you call for yourself. Document the reps name, time, date, and take pictures.

Is the form out? I keep clicking on it and it just takes me back to the same page. TIA!

I have a ton of excedrin too since it's a product we can use, and also gas-x (a few pregnancies later.. lol) and a few bufferins.

EDIT: I only spent 20 minutes on the phone before I gave up b/c the kids were fussing. I've spent nearly 1 hr on hold before like this before only to be disconnected in the end so I gave up earlier this time. Smilie Anyone else have luck?
Yes, the form can be found here:

http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/N...n-Form.pdf

At the top of the form, it says "Mail completely filled out form and send to:..." It doesn't say anything about sending back the product. I guess we will have to wait until someone is able to get through to them by phone to get the definite answer. Anyway, I do have a Bufferin that I got FAR from Rite Aid that meets the criteria for the recall, so I will wait until we find out for sure exactly what we need to send back to them before I do anything.

I also have about a million boxes of excedrin and absolutely no use for them. Would love a check! heart

I remember the Rolaids (I think it was Roladis) easy chews recall. I had so many, I had to complete a couple of online forms. I eventually got my check without having to send anything, but there was a lot of confusion on their part. One rep told me I would have to send in the packages (to prove I had so many); another said no. Maybe they changed their minds when I gave them my e-mail address at FDA! laugh out loud

Just so you guys know you would not get the $2 S&H but I called my publix and since I bought them there and since they will just easily send them back for a credit they said I could return them to my local publix store. Since the lines are busy and you would have to spend umteen hours on hold and then wait for a check I think I will just roll on in to my local publix and return them.

Why are you announcing a voluntary recall of Excedrin®?

Novartis Consumer Health, working with the FDA, decided to issue a voluntary recall of all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products in the United States because the products may contain stray tablets from other Novartis products or contain broken or chipped tablets. All lots of listed Excedrin® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier are included in this recall (see “view impacted product lotsâ€).

Is the Excedrin® currently in my medicine cabinet safe?

Novartis Consumer Health is not aware of any adverse events reported with the issues leading to the recall. However, we believe that a comprehensive recall is in the best interest of consumers who trust and rely on our products.

Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Should I return Excedrin® to the store?

Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Information on the affected bottle sizes and related expiry dates is available at www.novartisOTC.com (as of January 9, 2012). Consumers should contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using these drug products.

Have there been complaints related to patient safety surrounding Excedrin®?

Novartis Consumer Health is not aware of any adverse events reported with the issues leading to the recall. However, we believe that a comprehensive recall is in the best interest of consumers who trust and rely on our products.

Has Novartis acted on these consumer complaints?

Novartis Consumer Health is taking pre-emptive actions to ensure our products meet the highest quality standards, including voluntarily suspending operations at the Novartis Consumer Health Lincoln facility as well as suspending shipments from the site.

Did the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) order the recall?

No. Novartis Consumer Health initiated this voluntary recall. These actions have been communicated to the FDA and we are working closely with the agency and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Is it possible that other products will be recalled?

All lots of NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Gas-X® Prevention® products and Bufferin® with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States have been recalled. At this time, there are no plans in-place to recall any other Novartis Consumer Health products. However, we will take whatever steps are necessary to deliver on our commitment to meet the highest standards and will not sacrifice quality to meet short-term business results.

Which products besides Excedrin® were recalled?

All Bufferin®, Gas-X® Prevention® and NoDoz® products will be recalled from consumers, retailers and wholesalers.

I can't find Excedrin® at my local retailer, what should I use in place of it?

You should contact your physician or healthcare provider if you have any questions.

What should I do if I have questions about Excedrin®?

Consumers that have questions about the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time).

I just took Excedrin®. What should I do?

Novartis Consumer Health is not aware of any adverse events reported with the issues leading to the recall. If you have any questions or are experiencing an adverse event, you should contact your physician or healthcare provider as soon as possible. Consumers should also report the adverse event to the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 888-477-2403.

Back when there was a recall on some children's medicine (I think it was children's tylenol, but I could be wrong), I brought it to CVS and said it had been recalled. Cashier scanned it and could tell that it had indeed been recalled (they get some message on their screen that the product cannot be sold). I didn't have a receipt, but they gave me a CVS MC. Still, I think I would rather have cash in this case because I've filled two shopping bags with Excedrin so I think it'd be $200 or more.

If they have a question, you could always take a picture and email it. I had 18 bags of Rolaids chews when they were recalled, and I got a full rebate.

Hate all the recalls, love the MM potential! I've always sold Exedrin for $1 at garage sales just to get rid of it!

Just returned them to publix and then this happened-

This is unbelievable and even worse it happened a publix store that knows me well as I have been in there well over a thousand times. After the gas-x recall I called and spoke to the manager who told me I could return it there. Instead of getting cash I simply asked for a gift card and he appreciated that. I go shopping and when I come back and get in line 3 employees are talking about me and one of them is cursing me with actual cuss words and stating I am ripping off the company because I used coupons to get the items(many months ago). She goes on and on and goes to the office and opens the door and is actually pointing at me in full view and ranting how I am a scammer and the like. I told the manager and he said he would talk to her but frankly did not seem to much care. Publix gets full credit for turning in the gas-x. They get full redemption on the coupons. Suddenly I am a scammer for returning them like I planned the recall. I am livid now. I expect crap like this at walmart but not publix and not the publix I am a regular at.
