RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

Seriously? The Manager at your Rite Aid REMEMBERS exactly what you buy and how much you pay for it MONTHS later? And if she really has THAT good of a memory, why not just go to a different Rite Aid store where they don't know you?
Hmm I am not quite sure how to take your comment.... Yes the store manager knows me, and what I order! That is why I shop there, they treat me very well.

I also called my Favorite Ra Store to inform the manager and also ask how I would go about returning them to the store. She (to my surprise) said didn't you get those free? I am going to have to ask my dm, how to handle this. I said Ok.... I don't think I am going to go there with her.... I will just send them in.
So if we have multiply bottles, just include all that information on a seperate sheet? we do not need to cut up the upc codes to prove proof of purchase or anything? For the $2 postage, i am still confused as people mentioned we didnt need to send in our bottles, so what does that refer to?

You do not need to send in the bottles. You DO NEED TO SEND IN THE UPC off every box that is recalled. If you need more room than the form offers, I was told to attach another page with the details of the items written out. He said they would only send $2 for postage, no more than that. hths

Thank goodness for SD! I called just a bit ago and was told not to send the UPCs and to use my best judgment about whether I should cram everything into the space provided on the form or not. I have created a spreadsheet listing all the information they asked for and I am including the UPCs from the boxes I have. I listed the bottles I have already opened but if I don't get reimbursed for those, no big deal. This reminds of the Prevacid rebate. They're probably going to tell us all different things so the safest bet is to definitely send in the UPCs and make copies of everything for back up!
Oh Boy, they aren't all saying the same thing. Take pictures! Document it all!

Just got off the phone. I was told to fill out a form for each bottle that I have, no upcs/bottles need be sent in as long as the lot/nd #s are on the form. Although there has to be a separate form for each and every bottle, they can all be mailed in the same envelope.

I don't mind sending the the UPCs. & I understand limiting the shipping & handling but I think the amount of UPCs & forms I need to fill out will cost more than $2

I think I'll submit $2 worth of ( USPS 1st class UPCs & forms ) under my name & another submission under my brothers name.

I don't play around with the limits on MIRs but I have a problem with companies that have such poor quality control that they have to recall OTCs for fear of killing someone.

I begrudgingly accept store's arbitrary return policies and tolerate the eye rolling cashier scanning coupons, but this is really annoying me. It isn't like you're trying to profit by pulling a fast one or doing something ethically questionable. This is a recall for a potentially dangerous product. Drug stores in particular should be more helpful.

On the box it is on the front, it is to the left of the word 'excederin' and it will say NDC, hth.

I wonder if employees are upset? I remember my father used to work for an encapsulation firm. If the unions were not happy, stray capsules became common, with resulting recalls occurring. The company eventually moved from Michigan to Florida to try and get away from the problem.

Thanks so much for saving me a phone call! worship When I did talk to cs.... they didn't ask for this number when I gave them the info on the open bottles, so I had no idea. I would rep you but I can't for some reason it won't let me, Thank you!
