RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

**There have been differing reports of directions received from cs reps. Suggest if you call for yourself. Document the reps name, time, date, and take pictures.

Thanks! No 10ct Gas X listed....yet...and it's only the Prevention version. No need to call my parents who I gave them all to. I do have a few of the Excedrin, though, so asking Wal-Mart tomorrow or doing the form.

I called RA pharmacy to find out further info on the 10 ct Gas-X softgels that I purchased both at RA & Walmart and was told that only the "Gas-X Prevention" boxes are the one being recall.

I don't understand why they don't require consumers to send in product itself. How are people going to dispose of these? I know the same is true if any medication, but with some of the items possibly being contaminated with traces of other drugs, wouldn't the responsible thing be to remove them?

I got tons of Excedrins last week at Rainbow that expires before December 2014. That is a pain. Which I didn't take those free after double coupon Excedrins.

According to all the news reports and the FDA page, there might be other tablets included in the bottles. So unless you take the pills without looking at them, there's not a problem. Smilie

Are the 10 count Gas X Preventative? I am not clear on this specification.
You are correct!!!! EEK! It is gas-x prevention only!!!!
I thought the recall included ALL gas-x products. This afternoon when I read the wedmd page, I freaked out & got excited at the same time. I freaked out because I had 15 packages of gas x in goodie bags for some seniors that I'm visiting this coming week-end. Then I got excited because I realized I could get reimbursed from walmart for them. Anyway, I read the novartis page again and it does only state gas x prevention products. 2 Managers at Walmart & 2 CSM's read the novartis recall page and they didn't see that either. I also had the webmd page that said "all gas x products", but when I returned to walmart with most of my receipts the manager apologized for asking me to bring the receipts. He also said that walmart was recalling all gas x products. Earlier today when I skimmed this thread and saw that lots of people had troubles reaching the company on the phone, all I could think was what a pita it was going to be to send all these boxes back to the company. I wonder if the webmd Doctor that wrote the article actually contacted novartis or where she/he got the info that "all gas x products" were included.
I'll remove my posts about this. Embarrassment

I set up a wiki earlier (that's the second post, editable by users) with the basic info, including links. I added Sophistic8's post just now.

If you have specific information on the recall, please feel free to add it to the wiki, or ask someone to if you don't know how.

Thanks!

For those who have multiple bottles to return and want to complete a form for each bottle, I have created the PDF with a pfd form feature.

This will alow you to type from your pc the information on the form.

This might be helpful for repeated information like your your contact information and then hand write in the other information as you see fit.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. If so, $2 should be enough to cover the shipping cost nod

I have an enormous rubbermaid tub in my attic i dump vitamins & meds in whenever they're a freebie or mm deal, it's about 1/3 full of excedrin, probably half of those are already past their expiration date. How much do they reimburse for returned product, and would I get anything back for expired excedrins?
If the mfg is not asking for product to be returned, only a list of lot #'s, why would anybody bother bringing the product back to the store?
What is the point of hoarding vitamins and meds only to not use them (or give them to someone who could use them) and allow them to expire? I don't get it. Dontknow

There are deals sometimes where you make money buying certain products. If I am going to pay $8 for my 2 bags of ground coffee and newspaper OR pay $6 for my 2 bags of ground coffee, newspaper, 2 bottles of vitamins, 1 gasx, and 1 ex-lax then I'm almost certainly going to go for the 2nd option. The tricky part becomes being able to donate the extra goods in a timely fashion (i.e. before they expire). It's harder than it sounds: most places I donate to only accept them weekdays 9-5. Guess what hours I work Frown
