RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

**There have been differing reports of directions received from cs reps. Suggest if you call for yourself. Document the reps name, time, date, and take pictures.

You don't need receipts to return them. so far CVS pays out the highest, $6.79 for the 20ct bottles.

Don't wait too long to get a response from Novartis or how much they pay out. by then, CVS may not take anymore returns if its weeks after the recall.
Did they make you show ID or did they just give you a merchandise card?

The FAQ on their facebook page says "Please use Standard US Ground Shipping." Is there such a thing? I know there is Standard UPS Ground Shipping and USPS shipping. What is US ground shipping? Do they mean we should use UPS or use the U.S. Postal Service?

So just off the phone with Novartis they stated if you are returning more than two products they will fully reimburse shipping costs per the cost stated on the parcel itself. The $2 shipping/postage was for the 'expected' return of two items ....boy they don't know SDrs. They will also send out the requested number of forms that people ask for, they are sending 18 my way. Very apologetic, professional and took note of item lot #s and exp. dates. Other than having to wait four days until I could actually get a call through the process was relatively harmless. But of course the proof is in the pudding as we say and I shall await a hefty cheque back from them.

Up to 13 oz can go first class. Next up is parcel post and then Priority mail but it might be cheaper to send priority mail than parcel post (depending on where u live and what u have)if you can send it in a flat rate envelope. Those are $4.95...... no matter what weight or distance.

Any place which lists the MSRP of the products?

Also while shipping what proof is there of what you have shipped? I would recommend delivery confirmation and keeping copies of the forms. That helped me once when I returned Baby Einstein products and they told me they had no record of receiving my package. I was able to show them delivery confirmation and my copies and they then mailed me the check.

I checked my stash and found 31 packages of Excedrin and Bufferin.

-already opened bottles only require the bottle and contents, but the form for it must be filled out. Include UPC# from the product list and Lot # and expiration date off bottle.

When shipping with USPS you can request that a package go by ground only. Some items cannot go by air per USPS rules like liquids, flammable items, etc. I don't know if these medications are required to go by ground only but if the company says to use ground shipping then perhaps they cannot go by air for some reason.

Rules on mailing medication are found somewhere on this page:

http://pe.usps.com/text/pub52/welcome.htm

I realize nobody will read this.

For those of you returning to CVS for a GC, are they putting them in their return pile or a separate pile? I'm hoping they're really sending these back to Novartis and not just restocking their shelves...and on that same note, has anybody seen their local store pull the items from their shelves?

Haven't been into a CVS but every other local retailer has pulled all of these products from their shelves, even the stores I've seen be pokey about it in the past.

I have problems with returning them. I went to Walmart, the manager insisted that I need a receipt to return even though they are on recall. And then, went to Target, they check and check and said they are not on recall and they are still selling them, but not in stock. Even though they found the list on the website, they only
can do a return without receipt (so the total will add up to the $70 no-receipt yearly return). I still have a lot!
I don't know what to do!!!

I don't really think so! Some managers are not easy to deal with! Thank you for your suggestion!
