One doesn't need to make $120k+ a year in order to be "wealthy" or "well off" - it's all in how one handles their money and what they do NOT spend it on. Those $5 jeans from the Thrift Shop sure do look good on me, and I'm not the least bit afraid to say where I got them from. Gap Jeans for $5 you bet, rather than paying $45 to $50 brand new Nono2
I just ironed a patch on a pair of jeans to extend their life a little longer and now that it seems to be holding up I have two more to try. laugh out loud

I love being a cheap farker. Whee

Well, we save plenty, are in the "range" for income of people my age with similar degree/experience. We cut corners where we can, but we've definitely taken advantage things to maximize benefit with cost:

Wife accompanied me on three international projects for work
Outside of that, we've taken three other trips overseas since getting married
No debt until recently (just bought a van, other two cars were owned outright)
Still have a well funded 401(k), liquid savings and "toys" around the house (hp touchpad, desktop, laptop, apple tv, etc.) Some purchased new some purchased on CL

It's about two main things:

Living within your means, but finding ways to be happy in doing this
Exploiting opportunities to save

This should help s'plain why "other people" seem so happy compared to "you":

Come now, don't you live in a "tony" San Diego Neighborhood Wink Cool
Where you then go out in your Benz and drive up the coastline for a leisurely ride,
just to find the perfect place on a Saturday evening to "dine" with the "boy" bounce

Yeah, but Mayor Nagin doesn't count.

Cupcake, you are no different than many others here, many live as you do, and many live far below what you do, and many live above what you do. What makes the difference is how you handle how you live - and whether or not you are "happy" - do you wake up each morning and say "I'm happy" - I have a good family that loves me, and I love them - I'm proud of who I am and my family as well. If you are able to say this - you are already "wealthy". There are far too many people I know that are filthy rich wealthy - and hate themselves and their families - not worth it Nono2

Don't you guys find the time you spend on catching a "hot deal" here would only bring you less "profit" than you actual hourly earning? I... do it for fun.

What people see is often not real. I know people who make less than me that live way better if you use material things and vacations as a measure.
