i got the idea from this but i'm also bitter about what the perception vs reality is between colleges. in california.. the general thought is you go to a cal state if you can't go to a uc. my sister went to the best uc she could get into (at the time) and hated every minute of it. i went to a uc and hated the major options. after completing the sequence and talking to friends i know i made a horrible mistake.
also, if you're not doing something that requires a degree...maybe its better you just get an associates/trade school cert and avoid the huge debt collge has
edited to say.. this is mostly 2000 + era when the cost of a degree is so large, any college degree won't pay off. it used to be you can get anything and make more than a high school graduate. now paying tons for just the sake of saying you have a degree from a "good" school doesn't pay off.

...So then I guess the answer is yes, since I'm happy now. But I wasn't happy there.

I think if my future children wanted to go to college for something like Art History I'd have to try and squash their hopes and dreams of it early on. Most likely a waste of money imo... Unless you want to go into teaching, the prospects of steady employment making a decent living are small and wouldn't really provide a good cost/benefit...
Question: do most college graduates in Alaska stay in-state following graduation? Is any service required in exchanges for the free tuition?
Im prior service, so i use post 9/11 bill pays for all my books, all my classes and gives me 2000 a month for rent, rent is like 800 here, we do however receive a thing called permanent dividened fund where every resident in alaska gets a check every year based off of how much the oil company drills.
alot of people stay in alaska, lots of money to be made here. the only down fall is graduation rate is like 20% people dont try hard here..
When I graduated I had two job offers with barely applying (I had interned for both companies and they both wanted me back) so I had a 45K job plus benefits when I walked through the door...I'm really enjoying what I do, but I wish I'd had a little bit different education but I can always go back and fill in holes
It was fantastic for Philosophy which I picked up as a second major though. I had two REALLY awesome professors.
As for majors... I basically used my CS degree to get my foot into the door at a development job, and I love development.. so that's good. Philosophy is just for me.
