Her rant was pretty awful. I'd be incredibly hurt if my kid did something like that. She sounded like a spoiled, whiny little witch.

I agree. It's a lesson most people learn the hard way. Some people lose their job over stuff like that because they forget just how public it is.

Kids rant it happens. Going to the extreme of shooting her computer shows how strict he apparently is. I can see why she would have wrote that. If this is how he handles situations. 3 months grounded for her last rant?

Raised my niece. I wouldn't ground a kid for 3 months for a rant. And I wouldn't shoot their pc over some apparently justified rant. Parents are not perfect just because they are parents.

I agree with his reaction to the post and applying consequences to her actions.

I'd probably not have put on a big floppy hat and shot the computer, but I would have taken it away for a very, very long time - if not forever.

This is one of the behaviors that I dread when ours are older...they are young now and know that we are fun but have high expectations of them in terms of their behaviors in terms of doing what is right and respecting their parents and teachers.

We don't know what she has or hasn't done in the past and how many times this has occurred.

Nothing justifies complaining about the people that provide EVERYTHING for you publicly. Some of what she said may or may not have been justified, I don't know, but the manner in which she did it certainly was not.

If your niece did that to you after everything you've done for her (I'm assuming you've raised her since infancy) do you think it would be justified?

After her comment about having a cleaning lady and how things weren't her responsibility I guarantee there wouldn't be a cleaning lady any longer and the daughter's life just became a lot busier with things to do. laugh out loud

Kids need to learn a lot more respect these days.

Kids are kids mistakes happen. There would be consequences. But he is taken it to the extreme. To think a kid will always be perfect and never make a mistake is a bit much.

I don't know where you're pulling all this from. I never said anything about parents being perfect, or kids having to be perfect, but go ahead and keep replying to things no one ever said if it makes you happy, I guess. laugh out loud

Well I like how you assumed I didn't have kids because I had a different opinion that you. You think that the parent did the right thing. As I said parents are not perfect, meaning he made a mistake. But you know whatever.

No, not because you had a different opinion, because it was obvious. And I wasn't wrong, was I?

And I never said he did the right thing. I just said I think his reaction is justified given what she wrote. I certainly never said or implied he was perfect.

I don't think anyone could really say what he did was definitively right or wrong without knowing a whole lot more about their situation. And even then, it's still subjective.

I feel like there's more effective ways of dealing with this than destroying a valuable piece of equipment just for the sake of proving a point. He could have given her a chance to get any items she needs for school off of it, and maybe even her mp3s, then made her come with him to donate it to a homeless shelter or low income school or something. He teaches his lesson, she sees how lucky she is, underprivileged people get new laptop. But that wouldn't have gone viral, so less fun I guess.

The dad was way to strict, it sounds like. And his actions reinforce that. I wouldn't blame the kid with being frustrated. And her rant wasn't no where near bad enough, let alone enough to shoot a laptop.

I agree that she shouldn't have posted it on the web where she couldn't control who all would see it but then the way he handled the situation was pretty passive aggressive and not the most healthy way to deal with your child. Plus why destroy a computer that he said he just spent 6 hours and almost $200 upgrading the day before. Sell it, donate it or keep it from her for a long time. Plus it looked like he was not in a rural area, there's a pretty busy street in the background so firing a handgun in what is likely the city limits, is not a smart move.

Edit: I missed part of the video last night so it sounds like her chores aren't all she made them out to be. He's right, she's wrong but he still could have handled this in a more adult way.

Did he say what she was ground for the last time? We don't know what exactly she did.

Quote from Zoe Moon :
Then there's the list of her chores, which sound like a lot for a kid who is in school and who has homework to do. She lists the following....

"...do the dishes, clean the counter tops, all the floors, make all the beds, do the laundry and the trash." Then her letter says something about all the work she does in his clinic. So it sounds like she's helping out with his business too.
I find it hard to believe that she has to do all of this every day. Even if she does, it was no reason to post such a rant on a public forum. Not only is there a scrolling message board, where your posts are visible, but most people will repost things that catch their attention. I can't imagine how many shared her post.

Even if everything she said is true and she's a modern day Cinderella, the manner in which she handled herself was as immature as it comes. She not only showed complete disregard for everyone around her, but for herself. It was a petulant, spoiled display. Apparently she is a teen, or she wouldn't have been told to get a job. Is this how she will handle other issues in her life? Would you want a co-worker that volatile? We have all seen reports in the news of teens that don't handle stress well and take it out on others. I'm not saying that she would or will go in that direction, but her rant shows a complete lack of judgement and self-control.
