My dad was very strict with me growing up. Everyday after school I had to bring the cows into the barn and help with the milking. I would get done at eight at night and then I could eat supper and do my school work. This girl has it easy.
I read his facebook page and he seems like a pretty cool guy. And based off of what I read, his daughter is not traumatized.
I do feel sorry for the laptop. It was the innocent party in all of this.
She could borrow my laptop if she wants to protest her anger about the whole matter....
What a horrible dad....
I agree that kids should be respectful and that this girl should have been punished for her actions.
I also agree that a parent needs to follow through with with what they say.
This father telling his child he would shoot the computer if she did what she did again is where it went wrong. Who says that that to their child?? That in itself is very strange.
The video of the father is embarrassing. He acts like a total blowhard showing the world his big bad gun shooting a laptop. He makes himself look like some backwoods ding dong. All he was missing was a can of cheap beer. Who does stuff like this? His actions here are also very strange.
Then he posts it for the world to see. Because his daughter posted nasty things about her parents on facebook (a child) that was public for everyone to see. So....what lesson did he teach her? Tit for tat. By making this video public he taught her nothing. They both did the same thing. He also went public and complained about his kid. Not very intellectual. Again I ask, who the hell would do that?
I think the worst part here is what he is teaching/not teaching her about guns. This is not what they are meant for and he is setting a very bad example and a potential danger for his daughter. I'm in no way a perfect parent but I WOULD NEVER involve my firearm in any discipline ever. He is irresponsible to the extreme in this respect. This guy has some issues that to me are pretty scarey.
Now back to the daughter. What she did was totally wrong. There are several avenues the parents could have taken to punish her effectively and responsibly. That's one of the jobs of a parent. To teach them right from wrong. It's not an easy job but it can be done without acting like a idiotic maniac.
A mother and a father are their child's 1st role model.
I agree, this is what I was trying to say in my previous post but didn't do it as well as you did.
OH, but he didn't respect her privacy ! 15 year old KIDS don't have privacy. Its a parent's job and responsibilty to know what their kids are up to.
Oh, but what lesson did he teach her ? Ummm, he taught her that if she does disrespectful things, she'll have to pay the consequences, which obviously include having her laptop shot full of holes. She will also learn to actally VALUE possessions as she will now have to buy a laptop with her own hard earned money if she wants one.
A life in porn maybe? heck or she will be sluttin it up soon enough....
She is going to be every boys easy hookup..
Nice going dad, you ruined you girl life... but you made here prime for some easy hookups for future me
Thanks dad

Also, in a culture where guns are prevalent and a non-issue, it doesn't seem as irresponsible as you make it. I think you're making the assumption that everyone who sees this video will all of a sudden pick up their guns and start shooting shit. If you applied that rationale, we should never allow our kids to see any tv shows with guns in them. It's not like he shot her, its not like he did it in a fit of rage, he actually seemed pretty collected. Miffed a little, sure, but its not like he was throwing stuff everywhere and screaming and then whipped out his gun and shot it.
The only difference here is your bias against guns. I'm sure if he used a sledgehammer you would'nt have said a thing.
Irresponsible would be beating the child, or worse doing nothing... some of the comments make it sound like it would've been better to go "oh, its just a phase, she didnt mean it." Yes, lets coddle our children more, and then teach them that nothing serious can happen to them for their actions.
I don't want to hear it later when she mouths off to the wrong person and gets beaten, raped, or killed.
TL;DR: video was for everyone else, not the daughter; using a gun is probably not out of place there; and there's all sorts of "bad" parenting, but this isn't the worst offender by any means: the parents who coddle their children and don't teach respect are the bad parents.
P.s. and i actually agree that the gun was a little over the top, but your arguments aren't really valid. If it were me that sledgehammer would've been way more gratifying.

I never said I thought people would suddenly pick up their guns and start shooting shit.
If you think he did a great job and now fixed the problem with his daughter by blowing holes in her computer and letting the world know all about how he chooses to discipline her that's your opinion.
I'll tell you one thing, I bet when her friend's parents see his 8 minutes of Jerry Springer fame they won't allow their kids to go to that moron's house.
I have my opinion and that's just the way it is.

The gun wasn't used in the daughter's actual discipline. That would be like saying "hey, you shouldnt' discipline your kid with a car" if the dad decided to run the laptop over with his truck.
You are making it sound like/ and comparing it to someone holding the gun up to her head or otherwise threatening HER with it and that just simply wasn't the case.

"make your life harder?" maybe he means shes going to do a lot more chores, and have no car and have no phone and be grounded and make her own meals and pay rent and buy her own clothes.
