Another theory on obesity

There are many theories on the causes of obesity. Some say too much fat, too many calories. Ironically, many of the modern diets have generally failed to fix the problem.

The above video is long. For people who will reply with tl;dr here is the synopsis:

Watch it if you get a chance. I really enjoyed it and found it both eye opening and informative, without needing some shock factor or sex to sell it. It follows a simple premise and makes a lot of sense.

Me too.....and at my age it takes a lot more work to allow me to eat it.

I have no problem spending an extra 10 or 15 minutes in the gym if it gets me a nice big greasy burger. laugh out loud
nod I like greasy burgers too. I know that shocks people.

I always like the saying that if two people agree 100% then one of them isn't necessary. If you agree 100% with this video, then your opinion on it isn't necessary. You need to take what you've learned from this video and watch others. Read more about the topics they discuss. Do not take their word with any more than a grain of salt. Formulate you're own opinion and do your own research. Look at the science of it before being sold on the agenda they are pushing.
Where did I say I agree 100% and this is a catch all explain all?

Sugar has been around for thousands of years, and NOW *Americans* are fat due to it? I don't buy it. Also the US is not the largest consumer of sugar, yet we likely weigh the most.

I agree with vec and cs. Diet & exercise & forming your own opinion.

I tried watching the video but it's 90 minutes long. I would have given them the chance to state their argument but not at the expense of an hour and a half of my time.

I stated my argument in just 1 post and it's more believable then the sugar conspiracy.
Actually, it's not. It sounds nice, but it doesn't explain obese 6 month old who are on formula.

So is mine and many other families I know.

Again, this is anecdotal evidence most people believe (including myself).

Watch the video.
So explain this too me. How is it that people who live without sugar gain weight or don't shrivel up? The only sugar we eat (my family moreso than myself) comes in the form of fructose.

My views on formula are very well documented here in the Lounge. You could research that or wait for Max or Mal to comment on it.

There is no possible way that you could convince me that formula makes babies fat.

Formula is more than just sugar and offers a lot more calories than breast milk which means it offers a lot more calories than their bodies were built for. I can't watch the video and won't when I have the time simply because if you've seen as many of these as I've seen, there's nothing more to add. I think what you're trying to get at is that we put sugar in everything. Is that right? If so, then I would agree, but the reason that it makes us fat is not because it's sugar. We could substitute it with extra butter or extra lard or whatever. The point is that it's extra. We are adding more calories to our bodies than we did in centuries passed. We can get food anywhere now, and we don't have to work nearly as hard for it.

That's only part of the change in food.

Don't watch the video if you don't want to, but the guy gives a very convincing argument using logic and science and not shock theories.

If you're nothing will change your mind, why even discuss something?

I don't doubt it, and i don't disagree with him/you that sugar is a major problem. I'm only saying it's not the only one.
