You're all over the map there. Pitbulls and American Bulldogs have somewhat similar personalities, but those 2 are nothing like GSDs or Labs. Labs are the easiest of the bunch to socialize, both with dogs and people. Pits and American Bulldogs are the hardest to train of the bunch due to their stubbornness, though male GSDs can be very stubborn also, especially during adolescence. Labs and Pits are the highest energy of the bunch. Anyway, research the breeds and see which best fits your personality and household. Smilie
I've owned a pitbull before she was the best dog ever! Sadly I had to put her down about 1.5yrs ago...she got a fungus in her lungs from the dirt! It killed her in like 3 days from the first sign of any symptom Frown

I've always been a cat person. Married to a dog person. We've almost always had at least one of each. Currently we have 2 cats & 2 dogs. Left to right, you see Payton (American Pit Bull Terror - oops, Terrier)(lol...) and Indi (a hybrid of some sort with probably some GSD in there somewhere). Both adopted. Payton was rescued from a 16 year old girl who was hiding her from her parents, in a cooler in her closet... Indi was adopted because her parents were moving & couldn't take her along. We've had Doberman Pinchers in the past, and a mutt or 2. My favorite dog of the bunch is our Pit Bull. heart

How is the shedding? Do you brush her alot? and yea I would want a female
They shed but I don't know that it's any worse than most dogs. Mine doesn't shed half as much as the golden huskie mix.

I'm not great at brushing her very regularly, but they are easy to brush and if I do it outside just a couple times a week for five or ten minutes it does really cut down on the dog hair floating around in side.

I am going to refrain from giving you the speech about how dog trainers and behaviorists alike despise hearing the term "outside dog." However, since this thread is supposed to be compromised of dog lovers, I am going to encourage you to educate yourself on this topic by reading one of the many articles on why dogs need to be inside, such as this one [wordpress.com].
Smilie If you want to continue discussion, you can PM me. I do understand the social benefits of being an indoor dog. We never had a pet before (the cats were mostly strays), so we did the best we could to take care of the situation when my grandfather passed away. It is my parents' house - I can't control how they want to do things with their home. Their 1+ acre yard is much better for her than my 600sf apartment where I would be gone the majority of the day.

If I had my own place, with a real yard, I would (and plan to) take her.

Also - we are very lucky that she isn't much of a barker - so she doesn't irritate the neighbors Smilie Thank goodness! And I do heart her very much!

I miss my baby boy every day Sadwalk

Lazy and sick here:

A puppy of 90 pounds or so:

It was three months ago today I held him while he was put to sleep. I'm actually tearing up typing this. I grew up with dogs. He was "my" first dog not my parents. I have never known a better dog. I rescued him at nine months old. I think his ashes weigh more than some people's dogs laugh out loud

Awww, what a little sweetie! Big Grin

We have a six-month-old labradoodle, and she was the same way the first day we got her, since she was flown. She tried to hide under the couch, but there's only like an inch of clearance so she just curled up as close to it as possible for the whole day. laugh out loud

How old is yours now?

Nothing, but if one of the other dogs does something she knows is wrong, she will make that face. laugh out loud We call her an Eeyore - as in the character from Winnie the Pooh. Out of the 5, she is my favorite. Smilie

Dogs want and need to be with their pack. It's that's simple. And it's a fallacy that dogs need a big house. We have 5 in an apartment. When we are at work, 4 of them have to be crated. When I get home though, I walk them 2-3 miles and they spend the rest of the evening playing with toys (and each other) inside. They sleep in our bedroom and living room. 2-3 times per month I take them hiking (5-8 miles) as well. Sure, the dogs would be happiest if I could stay home all day with them, but someone does need to pay for the $300 worth of kibble they go through every month. Smilie

Much like having children, if you're going to get a dog, you have a moral and ethical responsibility to do the best for them that you can. Otherwise, why get a pet at all? By keeping them outside, you are denying them one of their most basic needs, which is the need to be with you. There's nothing to discuss. I know and you know that that dog is going to continue to live outside. At some point, I hope you realize just how much you let him down.
