uploading photo to facebook without it sending a notification to people

12,060 2,046 March 26, 2012 at 06:07 PM
I tried to use google to find this but the few suggestions I found I think are outdated because they don't match up with what I am able to see. Is there a way to change the settings so that when I upload a photo it doesn't make a post that I just uploaded a photo (or send an email to friends or whatever else facebook does)?

Change the privacy settings so that it can be viewed only by you for the uploaded photo...

You can always just promptly delete the post it makes on your wall / newsfeed.

But won't people in my friend list get a notification right when the picture is uploaded? I don't want it to send out e-mails or messages saying "Friend has uploaded a new photo" or whatever it does.

Your friends will only get emails if you tag them in the photos. If you delete the post quickly, most likely nobody will see it. if somebody happens to be browsing the news feed at just the right moment, they might see it.

Uploading so only you can see it should work, i doubt it would, but make sure if you change the permissions later it doesn't make a post to your wall or that you delete it.

Note, no matter what you do, if you share the photos and somebody clicks the photos link on the sidebar, they may see your album. You can also use friend lists to share the photos with a subset of your friends.

If u upload it for your view only, your friends wont get that notification...

It is however somewhat pointless to upload a photo and share it with nobody.

I just didn't want to spam people for posting random pictures. I know that when someone else uploaded a picture, I got a notification in my email telling me about it. It was just of his new truck so I wasn't tagged in it or anything. I had to go into the settings and turn off notifications of when friends uploaded pictures. That's the reason I thought everyone else would get a notification if I upload something...if they don't have that notification turned off.

True, but I'm sure Facebook put it in there for a reason though...

I'm pretty sure your notification settings are jacked up. You shouldn't get notified when people simply upload a picture and ur not tagged. Go change your notification settings to the default one and it should stop emailing you

This. I have never gotten a notification email about someone uploading a photo that I was not tagged in. Honestly, I think OP is too worried about spamming people. It's not really worth the effort because if you change the privacy setting on facebook of all your photos to only allow you to view them, whats the point of uploading it to facebook?

well I just got an email telling me about a new friend that one of my friends is now friends with. It is the guy's sister but I'm not friends with her (only him) so why do I get an email telling me of his new friends?

Your account is definitely messed up. I've never heard of or seen that happen before...

Maybe try going through all of your notification settings and turn them off/set them to default. If that doesn't work, I'd definitely contact Facebook. That's not normal behavior.
