RETIRED Marlboro Outwit the West Funny Farm

228 92 October 16, 2010 at 01:35 PM
Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Good afternoon everyone! wave I have not been on except to enter contests, life has been keeping me busy. Had one that had flown the nest return and had to get her all moved back.....knew it was too good to be true laugh out loud My mom seems to be recovering finally from her surgery but developed pneumonia a few weeks ago and now trying to get a handle on that, but she remains at home so that is good.
I've actually had a few small wins in the past couple of weeks.
A $25 live nation code from budweiser, and a cell phone skin
Lighted up beach ball from Dole
$10 in coupons from http://littlehugsummerrefresher.com/ (kiddie drinks)
$25 gc from Kmarts Fathers Day contest
Coupon for skinny cow treats (yay!!! 1st win ever for skinny cow)
5 extra entries on swimmingpool.com
and got a $25 gc in mail fpr sports authority from nestles water (unexpected)
.......so that's been encouraging!

WOW on all the great wins!!! Lisa and Cindy that was awesome! So happy to hear that little Shelby is doing well, what a cutie! So sorry that your baby is ill shesays, she's in good hands with you. Just wanted to check in with my favorite people, have a winning day! bounce

AND Happy Birthday CCG and to Jem Smilie
Good to hear from ya, Tex! Busy is good! No more empty nest for you. Happy to hear your mom is recovering, but pneumonia can be serious, as I'm sure you know. Congrats on some nifty goodies!
My first Birchbox is waiting for me in Washington...going home tomorrow.
This trip has been somewhat overwhelming! I'm gettin' to it...

Surgery or chemo would probably kill her at her age. The specialist said she was too old to make those viable options and reducing the swelling was the most we could hope for. And truth be told, I can't see putting her through all of that on just the possibility of extending her life a few months. I love her so much but accept that letting her go is the best choice. When she stops eating or has too much trouble breathing I'll have her put to sleep. My regular vet said he had no problem with my being with her when it's time, so that's the plan. I got her from the pound sixteen years ago and she's had a good life since then (she'd been abused and has been so grateful and loving). I'm going to deal with this even though I've been crying a bit. Oh, who am I kidding? I've been crying a lot.

My other cat -- Azizi who's nine -- adores Miss K but realizes that something is wrong. He's started grooming her once in a while which he never did before. And she lets him, which she never did before. He'll take her dying hard, but within a few weeks I'll get another cat to keep him company and we'll all muddle through.
I'm sorry to hear about your cat, as I was reading it my eyes fill up with tears, I know the pain your going through. My cat Frosty lived to be about 20 years old, I get her when she was about a year old according to the vet when I took her to get fixed. I took her and my sister took her kittens, she was a pretty cat she was part angora(can't spell) and siames(can't spell either) she lived long enought for me to get home from work that night to see her and then she died. Of all mornings on Halloween. So that day I went and bought, all I could find was a black cat sitting on top of a pumpkin for like a rememberance keepsake.

Details, details! Congrats on an awesome couple of wins! How was the campout and the gear? Were you anywhere near the fires?
Thumbup
The entire experience was awesome! Fifteen other local families won much of the same gear from Coleman in a local contest, and that's who all was in the campground. I may be mistaken, but I believe all three other sites (CA, PA and MO) also had campouts as well.
We were one of the few groups without little kids. The children made this experience the most fun, watching their fascination and fun with everything from ants to the water spigot.
There are 11 fires now burning in Colorado, one of which is in Estes Park, where my father has a cabin that has been in our family for three generations plus. Twenty some structures have burned down there thus far. My dad is returning from a trip with his wife's family in North Carolina tomorrow, which is a good thing. They live in Denver, but spend summers at the cabin. There is also a bad fire near Colorado Springs.
I thought there would be more smoke in the air here in Denver, or that you could see it. I always use moisture drops in my eyes when I'm here anyway, because my eyes have gotten scratched badly from particles in the air here in the mile high city.

WooHoo!!! Glad your having fun! Cant wait to get my camping stuff!!! Too bad I dont have any real wilderness to go camping in. Campground camping is just not the same. Its more like backyard camping with strangers!!! Which can be fun but defeats the purpose of getting back to nature when the most nature you are seeing is when you go into the bushes to pee!!
You are going to be a Happy Camper with the Coleman gear, CW!

I hope your dad's cabin will be safe! I'm glad you had a good camping experience, and yes, I would rather enjoy other peoples young ones than have my own laugh out loud Though I'm not sure they aren't actually less trouble than grown ones shake head

I started here during OWTW, I happened to goegle the first question and ended up here and have been here every since. I don't know who started the contest sweeps thing but we got bored after OWTW and we started doing that. I don't even remember who came up with the term Funny Farm.

We got to Bear Creek Lake Park Campground and the temperature was over 100 degrees at 10 AM. This is truly a desert environment and our campsite had one little, tiny tree, which was immediately deemed mine, as Queen Coleman. I could hardly function, and my folks were all somewhat worried about me passing out, as I slathered on sunscreen in the shade of my tree. My court set up camp with all the gear I won except for the grill and the canopy, which weren't included for the campout, and at that point we badly wanted the canopy. There were trees and lakes all around us, just not at the camp site.

We had demonstrations for lunch and dinner by a local celebrity chef who showed us how to prepare a healthy, easy meal using Coleman gear. Then families split into groups to cook and eat together, in the shade of canopies, and we all enjoyed that. The kids were hilarious and had so much fun!

Various activities were planned for the afternoon. Goat and the Crazy Celt went horseback riding, and Louie and I headed for the lake on Pelican Point to go kayaking. We got the wimp kayak, as my sister was somewhat nervous. We had fun paddling around, looking at the swans and ducks and continued getting sunburned, despite multiple layers of sunscreen. Being on the water cooled us off somewhat, which was a relief. As we stood by the shore after our float, a big, white bird landed right in front of us that was so majestic as it dominated the lake scene before us. No one was quite sure what it was...maybe a heron? It was a stunning white pelican. I've never seen one before. It flew away before we could get our cameras, which were up on the bank with the rest of our stuff.

Dinnertime rolled around before we had time to go fishing, and Coleman had paid for a license for those of us that didn't have one. During our meal we were serenaded by a couple guys who played guitars and sang familiar songs. Goat had printed up the words of some campfire songs, including songs from our Girl Scout days, songs from our family. Although we sang some of them throughout the day, the only sing along was by our campfire. I was surprised that they allowed campfires in designated rings, because it is so dry and the fire danger is so high.

We never did go fishing that day, and by dark everyone went to sleep, except us. We sat up and talked and sang by our campfire, as the amber moon went down behind the foothills.

The next day as we broke down our camp, I went to talk with the Coleman reps about what to do with the gear we had just used, as all my gear would be shipped home to me in Washington. They told me to keep it. I had to ask several times if was OK to do that, in addition to my prize. They assured me it was fine, and my sister's will split up all that great Coleman camping gear! Yep...it sure is fun to share!

We left our campsite with a hoot and a holler to go fishing. Crazy Celt caught a trout, but we were all so sunburned and sweaty and tired, we headed back to the mile high city...happy siblings, happy campers.

Thanks so much to those of you who congratulated me on my two huge wins, and gave me a bon voyage to Colorado! I'm heading home to Clearwater tomorrow and getting somewhat melancholy as I pack my bags. I am so fortunate, because my wish came true. Smilie
