I went to the poll today to cast my vote on the NC Marriage Amendment [politico.com]. As expected, there were a lot of lesbians against the amendment standing outside the polling place. None of them were hot. Not one. Just a whole bunch of greying, shabbily dressed, hairy legged women with signs. It seems like the lesbian community could have put on a much better display to influence public opinion outside the polls.
No lipstick. No kissing. All in all a big disappointment.

My only question is this.....if a person is gay, the only thing that separates them from a straight person -- in my opinion -- is their sex life right? I mean really....there's no other difference. So if someone wants to define themselves by what they do with their sex life, how is it not offensive to call someone gay or homosexual, but it is offensive to call someone a slut? Each of these terms is just a reference to their sex life.
Just trying to keep this out of the Podium.

And isn't everyone's sex life different? No one wants to be defined by one single aspect of their lifestyle. I think you're wrong in thinking that people don't get offended when you define them by their sexuality. That's not who they are, that's just part of their life. The only reason people put it out there so much is because it is so unaccepted that they need to get the message out that they are people just like you and deserve equality. So defining anyone by any one term is offensive in and of itself simply because you're not trying to know them, just define them.
If someone identifies themselves by some word or another, then it's not offensive to call them that, but when you determine what you want to call them simply from a lifestyle choice then it is offensive.

I think defining oneself is kinda stupid, but I understand the need for identity, which I think is what it mainly is. Identity and to be accepted for one's identity. But forcing identities on others and persecuting them for it is much more stupid (and in fact, wrong) in my opinion.
I mean, you identify yourself as a man, not just a Homo sapien, and gender qualities that you identify with your sex, which defines you. So it's ok for me to call you a man vs male Homo sapien, because you've identified yourself as such. So defining oneself is important and when someone is trying to fight for a certain amount of acceptance or changing laws then they must show that identity and be proud of it and strong in their cause because of it.
So I think it's wrong when someone tries to force an identity or way of life on someone, but I don't think it's wrong for someone to expect to simply be accepted and gain equality for their way of life.
For example, I, in no way expect a heterosexual Catholic to become a homosexual Atheist, but I also don't think that same heterosexual Catholic has the right to think a homosexual Atheist to become like them. I don't care that they each define themselves as such, but they shouldn't try to convert someone to their same definition of self.

....except about the part about defining myself as a man
....and i think defining one's self based on their sexual preference is stupid

Granted, a lot of my definition of myself is my sexuality and preferences, but that's because one of my causes is sexuality understanding and accpetance. Since it's such a taboo topic, I talk about it more to get people to feel a little more comfortable with it and when you're comfortable with something you're more likely going to be willing to learn more about it and gain acceptance and understanding. One of my biggest things is I want people to understand and be comfortable with who they are no matter what others think and to be comfortable with the fact that others make certain life decisions.
